This is the director for Commonwealth Anesthesia. I advised him that my tooth was broken out due to intubation during surgery. He agreed to take care of the bill and after my exam (which he paid for) I presented him with the bill. He thought he had an option between 2 amounts and obviously offered to pay the lower one, but when he was advised this was a long term treatment and that he needed to pay both amounts over a 4 month period, all communication ceased and even after he offered payment in writing, he sent a letter months later stating they would only offer to pay 200.00 total. And to this day, will not return my phone calls.

Please do not use Commonwealth Anesthesia. They are a nightmare to work with. I recently had a baby at St. Francis Medical Center, and my anesthesiologist was from Commonwealth. I chose the hospital because it was in-network for my insurance. Apparently, Commonwealth Anesthesia was not in network, even though the hospital was. My insurance company still paid in network status to them, since I was given the doctor on call, and I had no choice in the situation. They are still demanding that I pay $2,300 above my insurance's payment of the reasonable and customary amount. They have me in collections, and they will not work with me to reduce the remaining balance to something fair and reasonable.

I definitely feel the doctor should be paid fairly for his services, but to gouge unsuspecting patients is wrong. The insurance company has pain the in-network customary and reasonable amount, and they will not even speak to me about negotiating the remaining bill down to a more fair price. The insurance company cannot help me, because technically Commonwealth is not in network, they were just kind enough to pay in network. I am willing to pay something, but right now their price is 3 times the customary and reasonable amount, and they refuse to work with me over this situation!!

Beware if you get Commonwealth Anesthesia in the ER or in labor and delivery...They will bill you at high costs and conveniently be out of network, so that they can go after your money after treating you in a hospital you understood to be a participating provider.

I read an article in the Times Dispatch quoting Commonwealth asking to paid fairly by insurance and patients...I sympathize with them, but this time they were paid fairly, and now they are gouging me! What about billing patients fairly?
