Love this restaurant. It is very "mad men" (as in ad men). Chic environment and amazing food. This is a stylish and impressive spot for client luncheons. Miss the original but the face lift was needed.

This is one of my favorite French restaurants in New York. The restaurant is located in a beautiful location. The servers are nice and accommodating, I bet they did not get their training in France to be so nice. =) I have been to this restaurant a few times and have not had anything bad. It is safe to order anything. However, my favorite dishes are the Onion Soup Gratinee, the Roasted Organic Chicken . I do not know much about their dessert, as I am always too full after my appetizers and entree.

Brasserie is the ulimate dining hotspot -- exceptional fare, remarkable atmospheric flare and outstanding service. I consider myself a connoisseur of NYC dining, and I cannot express strongly enough how overwelming pleased I was with every aspect of Brasserie. It is a not-to-be missed dining destination for any occasion, including a romantic dinner date, business lunch or Sunday brunch. I even recommend it for occassions such as Mother's Day and Easter. They serve an amazing prix fix meal that trumps anything you'd get elsewhere. Complements to the chef! I'm confident that every one will agree that Brasserie is out of this world. In fact, this would be an understatement. You have not dined in NYC until you've tried this restaurant. My menu selects: escargots bourguignon, beet salad, long island duck, sea bass and chocolate beignets.

The food and the service is all that everyone's review says it is. The restaurant, however is cavernous--it is down a flight from the street level, and had very high ceilings. It does not have the makings of a cozy dinner for two. But as long as that's not what you are looking for, go to Brasserie.

My husband and I celebrated our 40th anniversary in New York during the weekend between Christmas and New Year's Day. We had a wonderful meal at Brasserie. The waiter gave us great service and the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairings was spectacular. They ask you what you like and then the chef chooses the menu for you, and of course, the very generously poured wine is selected to best compliment the course. It was most enjoyable!

If you're looking for a great experience for your out-of-town friends, this is it. I'd gone there years ago when it was the classic 60s decor. Now, a very modern take on the old Brasserie. Make no mistake, it won't be cheap (be prepared to spend at least $100/each). However, you won't be disappointed. On one visit, we had the chef surprise us with some of his off-the-cuff favorites. Simply amazing. Though the wine selection is decent, it's best if you know what you want going in. For the wine snobs, you may want to navigate the wine list yourself. All in all, a great place.

Well, you know what they say, you get what you pay for--and here you pay a lot but you get a nice dinner, nice atmosphere, and are surrounded by gentility. For a special date or occasion, this is the place to go.

Went there with a friend recently for a late dinner. We were sat promptly thanks to our reservation from the W concierge.

From what we ordered, the foie gras was alright but not interesting. The crab cake was certainly a nicer appetizer to my taste.

The steak (Rib Eye of course) was quite good. My favorite part of the dinner was probably the Sorbet.

The service was very nice and I would recommend the place for that. They were discreet and very efficient.

Best, -Guy

came here for restaurant week and the place is fantastic looking. we decided to order outside the restuarant week menu because we werent thrilled with the choices it had to offer. we started off with the crabcakes which was full of flavor and had the right texture. i had the sea bass which was cooked perfectly and my date had the halibut that had a perfect brownish crush cooked to perfection. our dessert was delicious as well which really topped off the meal at the end. the service was great as our waiter did not annoy us ever so often asking if everything was okay.

i'd definately recommend this place to check out if you have never had the opportunity to dine here. it is a bit noisy as the crowds get in so don't expect a quiet evening.

This room looks like a TV game show set. It's very modern, very lit, very glass/plastic. They have a good menu. We liked the fois gras a lot, and the fries are excellent.

On our second trip (of many, we hope) from London to NY we wanted somewhere chilled, attractive and undemanding near our hotel in the East 50s, for that first night, when our bodies were telling us that 8pm in NY was actually 1am in London! Brasserie gave us great food and wine with attentive service, so did it for us with room to spare. (See my separate, less flattering, review of nearby Montparnasse, where the host just ignored us.) For wine I recommend their chilled white Macon Villages, whilst the house steaks were well done, just as we love them! Service was attentive, but not intrusive. Fully-priced, but hey, live a little!

With so many other restaurants in the city, I would have no reason to return to Brasserie. I did not care for the decor/ambiance at all. It had a sort of futuristic/spaceship feel, but then had a "walkway" of sorts down into the restaurant. I guess the walkway is supposed to "hip" or something. And the restaurant is at first sort of hidden from view when you first enter. The coatcheck has no tables or chairs in the area, so when you are handed your coat, sweater, scarf, and then you have your pocketbook, you have no choice but to throw your stuff on the floor as you can't possibly put all your stuff on AND hold your bags/pocketbook at the same time. Not very good planning on their part.

The bathrooms and the stairs to it were not particularly nice.

I got the cauliflower/leek soup. I did not taste any leeks. Overall, the soup was extremely average, like something I'd pick up for lunch somewhere near my office. I also got the lamb shank with beans. While very tasty, the dish was too "heavy". They should have accented the heavy lamb with something that would help to "cut" the heaviness of it....perhaps some lemon peel... It was just too heavy a dish. I tried some of my sister's tuna tartare (or something like that). I've had better.

The only thing I can say is that the desserts were excellent. I consider myself a real dessert connoisseur, and the dessert chef at this place was excellent. I tried my sister's 3-chocolate sampler or whatever, and my mom's chevre cheesecake with fig. Both were excellent.

But I would never go back here.

I went here on Friday night. The place is really nice. My friends and I shared a bunch of appetizers and it was great. The mussels were unbelievable. The cheese plate was perfection. The chocolate desserts were so amazing, I wish I didn't have to share them!

Also, the wine list is impressive and the staff were fun, friendly and knowledgable. This was a great night out, I look forward to going back!

I was here over the weekend with some friends. We just wanted a fun night out and did we get one!! Friendly, professional service, and the food...I highly recommend all of it!! The mussels in cream sauce, the crab cake, the tuna cru, and you MUST try the mini burgers from the bar menu. They were perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned. Did I mention perfect?! Finish up with a chocolate dessert, and don't forget the cocktails! Definitly a great choice!

I cannot believe that after all these years Brasserie still delivers!! Wow to the Rib Eye! The service was great despite the restaurant being packed at around 7:30. Apps were great, the place looked ultra-cool, love the TV's with shots of the guests coming in! Oh, and the desserts were spectacular, save room.

I was so dissapointed at the food in this restaurant. The service was non existant, we had to return our lobster bisque as it was luke warm at best. Our main courses of bouillabaise was average at best; and we had to return the chocolate beignets as they were totally uncooked inside. It was uncooked chocolate dough. When we told our waiter this, his repply was, Do you know what beignets are?" i should have answered" yeah they are fried dough dumplings , but cooked ones, not uncooked. Needless to say, i wont be returning in the near future.

Went for lunch.Service friendly but slow as molasses. Food was OK but came out cold. Had to ask 3 times for water. Bread was a small baguette plopped down on table without a basket.
Had the lunch cost $10.00 I'd return; but at $90.00 for 2 people, there are so many restaurants that are head and shoulders above this place that I won't go back.

The majority of people who gave this restaurant an EXCELLENT review also gave "Excellent reviews" to all of the establishments that are part of RESTAURANT ASSOCIATES...Just look at the Profiles of the reviewers and look at the other restaurants they have reviewed...Its all a scam...I have eaten at the majority of these restaurants and please....How good can they be if they are willing to take $50 off your check for your birthday? Sub-Par at food at best at all of these establishments...What a joke.

Couple of friends visiting from out of town and always wanted to try this place. The food was well made and flavorful (Rib Eye). The kitchen staff prepared our steak perfectly along with its delicious appetizers. But our server was just bad simply put. I can only use the analogy of giving a gift, a diamond in a card broad box! What went wrong: (1) waiter didnt even know anything about their cocktail (types of vodka available), (2) avoided to check on our table periodically, (3) second wine order didnt come to us until quarter of the way into our entree and (4) we had to wait more then ? hour after our entree were done until our table was cleaned and given our desert menu (which we had to wait again). Go somewhere else - this city has great Brasserie establishments with par food quality with superior service.

The Brasserie is a NYC staple. From their beautiful decor to their creative contemporary French menu, Brasserie never fails to impress. It is definitely a see and be seen kind of place, with its striking glass staircase and urban, chic look. The new fall dinner menu is also outstanding. And don't forget to order dessert! It's a can't miss.

From the braised lamb cheeks to the confit, everything here is made to perfection! Whenever I'm dressed to impress, I make my way to Brasserie as I'm sure to see and be seen with the best. The decor of the restaurant is so unique. There is a frosted, floor-to-ceiling expanse of floating bottles and the rest of the place is sheathed in pearwood, glass, tile and terrazzo, rife with curves and slanting surfaces. I love it there!

this space is AMAZING! i've heard stories of Brasserie and how it was THE hot spot back in the older days, and i can only imagine that it looks 10 times better now. a very clean, futuristic feel. very posh. a lot of other "brasseries" have come and gone, but this one will always remain the original. they have a very diverse menu, but i chose the yellowfin tuna. what can i say, im a softie for a good emulsion! and the cheese tasting plates are the way to go for an appetizer.

Skip this place. I went there on a whim, looking for restaurants with open reservations on really short notice (like 2 hours before dinner). I should have known better. The service was ok, but man, was it rushed. We ordered an appetizer while still looking at menu to decide on an entree. About 5 mins after we ordered the appetizer, before we had ordered an entree, and well before we recieved drinks, the appetizers showed up. We had to order entrees with our mouthes full and appetizers getting cold. Our entrees arrived before we had a chance to finish our appetizers. The food was prepared very well, and portions were about average size for New York City. Prices were a bit steep though. The entire meal took 45 minutes, which is unacceptable for a place where the bill was over $100 for 2 people. One more caveat about this place: The menu they have in the restaurant is MUCH MUCH smaller than the one on their website. We had a choice of maybe 7-8 entrees, and it was a very limited selection. I would skip this place and spend your money where they don't try to get you in and out as quickly as possible.

Classy, trendy looking atmosphere. Great menu. Varied enough for a picky eater. Mouthwateringly good. Large portions. Some appetizers could be entrees. Prices are surprisingly reasonable. I'm a female and dined with a girl friend but the restaurant was big on romantic appeal. If anyone know of any other places like this I'd love to know because it would be missing one thing----me.

Personally my wife and I like the bar the best. But we always have something to eat when we visit. The food is good, the service divine and we will always go there when we miss Tim the bartender or maybe the restaurant manger. We are not precisely certain of his role there, but he always offers us something great to eat, fills our glasses without our asking and generally makes us feel welcome.

Even when we are not hungry we always try the french fries and harict vert.

I go out to eat every day of the week. The one thing I cannot stand is when a restaurant can't deliver. So, when I saw hamburgers on the menu along side some very interesting items, I thought I was in for another let down. Boy was I wrong. What a place! Beautiful, reasonably priced and some of the best food I've ever had. The scallops and pork belly just melted in my mouth. The baby beet salad was so refreshing and light and the dessert was a symphony of flavors, strawberry, rhubarb and pastis. I can not wait to book another reservation. I can't believe I had never been before. I highly recommend this place. What an outstanding experience.

This restaurant deserves any sort of attention in a city that's full of excellent dining choices. To sum it up: Everything is wrong about this place. It looks like it served a different purpose (like a studio or something) about five minutes ago. The service is SLOW: We ordered Cote de Boeuf and it took 70 MINUTES before we could finally start. And let me tell you: If you order a raw beef patty at Burger King it's gonna taste like the Chef's Choice compared to what we got. The meat was raw, and when i say raw, i mean it. The mushrooms were salty. The music sounded like at an 80s fashion show. And I couldn't get rid of the impression that this is the kind of place tourists go to because it sounds fancy, just to get ripped off. This is a definite NO.

Pros: None

Cons: Food, Interior, Service

Went to Brasserie for restaurant week dinner and maybe it was the menu but the food was very bland and it was something that I could have eatten at home. I heard though that things off the regular menu taste a lot better. Definitely don't recommend this for restaurant week or the veal cheeks! The atmosphere was nice and very modern tho. Bathroom was cool, definitely check that out!

Ultra modern, great architecture, excellent service, fabulous food! Not our usual type of restaurant, but we were extremely happy with the overall experience. The service was very attentive and the food was great. Be prepared to spend $125 for dinner for two. Check out the bathroom!

We saw problems with our waitress immediately when she frowned when we opted for tap water instead of bottled. Then they brought out my soup, but no spoon and we sat for the next 10 minutes trying to get the attention of anyone in the restaurant to help us. When the waitress came back I asked if she could warm the soup - she sighed heavily, did not apologise, and took the soup away.

At this point my wife and I felt very uncomfortable and approached the most senior guy there in a suit. We just wanted to leave, but he apologised, comped the meal and took over waiting on our table. His name was Renaud Amman.

It was a busy Saturday in December in NY, we could have been tourists (we're not, I go to the Brasserie semi-regularly with work). Will continue to go there thanks to Mr Amman.

The decor--clean scandinavian--gives off a coolness that's matched by the futuristic photocapture effect above the bar. (Tip: Make note to look towards the line of screens after you enter!) Design gimmicks aside, Brasserie's food was impressive. I enjoyed both my side (asparagus), main (a yummy bouillabaise) and dessert, which the waitress recommended. Neighboring tables' food all looked great. Nice for a business dinner, perhaps not so nice for an intimate date since it gets noisy at peak.

Took my clients for dinner by trusting good reviews... I lost my face to my clients.
The table (for 5) they got for us was the very end of dinning room where all waiters are rushing into kitchen and storage room. To make it worth, they donot have any other nice spots they could offer us (I made reservation much in advance, of course) and sent us a dead space where it took more than 15mins for the waitress showed up and asked us about first round of drinks... Food was very very average being on expensive side. I donot go back for the food, servise and for the cost.

I went here yesterday for dinner and it was a Tuesday so it wasn't that crowded, but it was a bit too loud. It would be great for group dining though. I got the $35 prixe fix menu and everything was amazing. The steak was excellent and everything has an interesting twist. Service is great too. Definitely should go and try it once!

The place was very crowded, 5 minutes after we were seated at a tiny table, the waiters have pushed my chair 3 times and asked me to move so he could walk through. The food was BAD. The calamari were soaked in a cup of water and tasted like it was loaded with least 8 spoons of sugar. The waitress and waiters were slow and rude. The place was a disaster.

I went with a friend of mine for a belated birthday celebration. I had received, via email, a coupon that stated "Receive a $50 credit towards your bill when you spend $50 or more on your next meal". When the check came, they refused to take the $50 off. The person who came to my table said that the wording was not specific enough and was very rude to us. It was very unpleasant for this person to not honor what was clearly stated. The food was good, but I will not be going back there.

It was an early evening on a friday and I didn't have a reservation here. I was seated almost immediately (party of 2).

I am very picky when it comes to having seafood. Here, I had the scallops appetizer and a 'seafood mix' entry. The manager was very thoughtful to have the chef make me a dish not on the menu to my liking. I was interested in a 'mix of seafood' (fish, scallops, shrimp), however, on the menu, the closest dish to what I had in mind was in a soup version. Put it this way, I am NOT a soup person. I was very pleased with my dinner here.

Dessert was just as tasty!

Dined alone and still had a terrific time. Great place for people watching, the only downside is the noise (so it's not so bad to eat alone). Fantastic waitress who was very honest about the best choices on the menu. Crab bisque was a big WOW, perfectly steamed mussels in the cream sauce were enough for two people, and the frites (served on a platter) were outstanding. Was full but wanted to try something light from the dessert menu -- the chocolate sorbet is to die for and there were three scoops!

Including drinks - also outstanding - my meal was $60. Definitely a deal. Without a doubt will return.

I was there yesterday for easter and what an amazing experience. The waitstaff was very accomodating and the food was great. I'm glad there is still great places like this in new york city.
Often people are very eager to criticize but forget to appreciate.
Thank you so much to make that Easter so memorable.
Can't wait to come back
Thanks

This restaurant is a crowd pleaser...literally! I came here on a Friday night with 17 other people. The staff was extremely patient and accomodating despite the fact that our reservation was originally for 12 and then grew to 20 and then finally reduced to 18. I truly appreciate the waitstaff for their politeness and flexibility. We were seated in the back room which was perfect because we were away from the hustle and bustle of the main room. The food was also wonderful. I had the escargot appetizer and the mussels entree. Both were so delicious! What a chic and classy restaurant!

Since it was my birthday and restaurant week, my friends decided to splurge on me for dinner at Brasserie. Service was very prompt and I had the Vietnamese Kobe Steak Salad, the Hangar Steak with Rissotto, and the indulgent Brasserie Sundae. Everything was presented on white plates very elegantly as places of this calibre should. The only beef I had was the scrunched up seating like you have to be a thin supermodel to park your butt in. We were seated close to the bar also and the litany of "F's" and "S's" swear words from the suits brought in the declassé factor. Otherwise it was fine with the innovative ambiance, vibe and chic Sex n the City appeal. However, no Supermodels spotted on the night we went. Probably they're at home having a tic-tac.

I visited Brasserie with a friend and her mother and the food was delicious. We had steak frites and chocolate cake. They were delicious. The only problem was that our waitress was condescending when advising us on how well done our at meat
should be due to the cut of the meat. But I don't know if this is charcateristic of all of the waiters in the restaurant. Oh, and the decor was very hip.

I went with a group of 8 for restaurant week. The food was beautifully presented, but many of the dishes were just mediocre (e.g. rock shrimp, poached salmon). Their steak dish was fabulous though. The atmosphere and decour somewhat make up for all of that though.

This is one of the coolest places to start the night in NYC. Go to the bar and ask for "Tim He was one of the best bartenders in town. Ask for one of his recent concoctions. The drink and the food on the bar menu are awesome. We love to split the mussels and fries or the sushi. The bar also has unique entertainment. As you walk in your picture is plastered on one of many digital screens. Loud, fun, great food, great drinks, outstanding bar service. What else can you ask for??? (One Hint: Stay at the bar!)
