Very rude and nasty owner (husband)... wife is not much friendlier. Several times I found expired bird suet on the shelves. When I asked a question about which food they recommended regarding a dog with digestion problems... they said they didn't know. I don't think they have much knowledge about animals or joy about meeting and greeting their customers. I will not go there again.

First, the negative. Unfortunately, I have found expired items on the shelves. I even bought some. I returned them for a refund no questions asked. I think the owners do not have the time (initiative) to sweep their huge stock for expired items. Now the positive. You simply cannot find some of the items anywhere within a 25 mile radius. Trust me, I've looked. The owners are also very dog friendly. You'd think that would be a given in a pet store but not all pet stores are welcoming of larger dogs. I feed my dogs mostly raw, real food but I enjoy having this store as an alternative to the large mega chains.

You have to check the expiration dates on the food-I almost bought some Solid Gold brand food today, the "best by" date was August. They have cases of canned Mighty Dog on the shelf that expired in 2007-I kid you not. Be careful of what you buy there.

Fantastic store with great prices and wonderful owners. You might expect a "mom and pop" shop to have higher prices than the big box stores, but a bag of Science Diet dog food at Pet Country is actually about $1 or $2 cheaper than at Petsmart in Kingston. Also, the owners have always been able to give me good advice and have saved me more than one trip to the vet.

I had a great experience at Pet Country. The staff is very knowledgable and pleasant, the inventory is great and they had everything I wanted (which never happens at other pet stores.) It was definitely worth the trip.

Very pleasant people. Very friendly. Great stock and prices
I have done business with place since they opened, and used other local places before that. They are the best.

They are very kind and always greet me and my dog with a smile. We look forward to shopping there (especially my dog, who gets the royal treatment and free treats at the front counter). Tuesdays they are closed, otherwise open 6 days a week.

Another example of a Ma&Pa operation that uses the old cliche of downhome local service with a smile......yet nothing could be further from the truth.
The folks at Pet Country seem to have a very independent attitude towards customer service, and convey the message of your presence
creating a interruption in something of greater importance.
Buyer beware, Pet Country does not stand behind their products. If you make a purchase that makes your animal ill, they will instruction you to call the manufacturer. No refunds or credits, period!!!Take the time to go to Petco! At least Petco or Petsmart if you have a problem, they make a return with no questions asked!!!

I work at SPCA in town. We get ALL of our supplies and foods at Pet Country on Route 9. Ira and Kathy are not only very helpful but have the best selection in town or anywhere else for that matter. They are a great addition to the community!

I have been a customer for almost a year and I have to say that Pet Country is the best pet supply store around. I like how friendly and knowledgeable the staff is- especially Kathy. I was tired of going to big chain stores- like Pet Smart, and getting glazed over looks from pimply faced teenagers when I asked questions about cat and dog food. I think that they really care about the health and well being of your animals at Pet Country, and they always have time to answer your questions. Plus- the young guy behind the counter always makes me laugh.
They have a customer for life!

Kathy and Ira have EXPIRED cat food products on their shelves. I have told them about it for 3 months. Product is from Aug and Sept 07. I told them again today and they called me a troublemaker because I told them I was protesting by not making a purchase. Are you a customer? Tell them you want FRESH food for your beloved pets. In particular, I am talking about Friskies 5.5 oz canned food. I haven't checked anything else. Price is great, local is better, but someone who cares about your pets like you do is all that really matters.
Kathy and Ira are surly and non-responsive (unless they're negative), and would be better off in a business without customer interaction.
