Here's when you go when your bike breaks and you want it fixed right. These guys do great work and it won't cost you an arm and a leg. They also have great accessories.

Having spent a fun summer on a cheap Target bike, I decided, after coming across a positive review for this shop, to check out Bicycle Revolutions for an upgrade. The previous reviewer mentioned the exact bike that I was looking for (Jamis Commuter 2.0) and felt pleased with the service. I, however, had the opposite experience. No one acknowledged me when I walked in except the 2 dogs they keep in the shop. When someone finally did, he did not pause from PACKING UP A FULL SIZED BIKE FOR SHIPPING while I asked about options. I told him I would wait until he finished so that I could continue. I knew exactly what I was looking for and had researched several options within my price range. I had hoped to walk out with a bike that day and only wanted a few minutes to be fitted properly for one. When I saw a bike that fit my budget (no more than $500), he would not let me test ride it because I was in a (ankle- length stretchy) skirt. Before anyone finds this strange, I often ride in a skirt-- in fact, I had ridden to the shop in it! (I ride to work and don't have the luxury of changing clothes most days, so flowing skirts serve me well for both purposes.) In fact, another woman who was waiting overheard him and said, "I ride in a skirt all of the time!" Further, though I was very interested in this particular bike (08 Fuji Crosstown), he told me to go to "a larger bike shop with lower- end bikes." Now I know that $500 is not a huge upper limit, but for a novice commuter, that will get me a decent BIKE SHOP bike in any city. I have never been treated so rudely in Philly, and will never return to Revolutions. Go to Breakaway or Trophy-- great prices, great selection, and phenomenal service. I opted for Breakaway because of their good service and free maintenance for 10 years!

Pros: Really lovely dogs and artwork on walls

Cons: rude staff, poor service

My bike was in dire need of a tune-up (breaks loose, chain locking, gears not shifting) and a friend recommended Bicycle Revolutions over any other place in the city, and he was right! The service was great, the price was reasonable, and I now have a bike that is better than new. They are friendly to bike-commuters like me (not just "bike people"), something I haven't found at any other bike repair shop in the city.

Pros: service, quality, price, location

Cons: none that I can think of
