I think Kool Smiles is great. They will actually see medicaid patients. For all the negative reviews go find another medicaid provider, good luck. Or you could get private insurance and pay for it yourself.

I went to the Kool Smiles in Kentucky to get three teeth pulled because they were bothering me. I waited almost 30 minutes for them to called me to the back. Then what made it worst the dentist pulled three teeth and he pulled the one tooth that didn't bother me at all. That was three months ago. And I still got the other bad tooth in my mouth and now that one bothering me way worst. Kool Smiles is my biggest disappointment. I WILL NOT go back to them. DO NOT take yourself or your children to those people. They are in it for the money, and they don't care at all.

Today I took my 2yr old for her 3rd cleaning at Kool Smiles. I didn't like this place from get go, really who doesn't let parents back with children under 5???? I tried to find a new dentist but noone was taking our inc so I waited. Last check up had no problems with going back with her held her head and everything this time not so much... she said she was taking her back when I said I was going to she said okay but let me tell the nurse something first then I'll come get you. ????? Really!? Then we waited 10 while only 1 lady was cleaning teeth and the other 2 talked. Then the dentist who never introdused himself to me got smart with a ten year old who's was telling him what teeth were lose. He said I'm a dentist that's my job I think I could find that out by meself, thank you. When he finally spoke to me he complain I need to flosh her teeth more. Which I do twice a day everyday! Thing I was told 3 of my 2yr olds teeth needed caps due to really bad cavits! Now I have only gone to them for her teeth needs so someone tell me why they never mention this with the last THREE xrays?????? He never pointed to exactly where these cavitys were either. Something fishy! I have a another dentist appointment in a few days. I WILL NEVER go back! Thank you all for your reviews they helped a lot! And as for those who enjoy this nasty place good for you! But I wouldn't be a bit surprised if you work there or know someone who does!

I brought my 9 year old daughter into the Lafayette Louisiana office for a tooth growing out of line from the rest. They did nothing to address this problem but instead pulled a tooth right next to it because it supposedly had decay on it.When I got home I looked at the tooth and there is no decay.I called to complain and the dentist told me she pulled it because my daughter said it hurt when she ate but I asked my daughter and she told me the dentist was lying. My daughter told me the dentist kept asking her if it hurt over and over just hoping she would say yes but my daughter kept telling her no and yet she pulled it anyway. They didnt give her anything for pain so my daughter suffered in pain because they are more interested in making money than in their patients' needs.

My son went to the New Bedford office and what an horrible place. They told me my son needed 4 caps on his baby teeth. When I tried to ask the women questions she got defensive and acted like I was out of line. I was very upset at the thought that in the 6 months since his last exam things got so bad. I didn't see anything in his mouth but I am not the professional. Well I decided to get a 2nd and 3rd opinion and both dentists said he has NOTHING wrong with his teeth. Not even a cavity. I would not bring my child to this business. They are not out for the heath of your child!!!

Kool smiles uses restraints they have named papoose boards to make it not seem like a restraint. I told them they would not use them on my son, who wasn't even a problem patient and was told I would have to take my son somewhere else. What kind of a dentist restrains their patients? This is why 1/2 of people who go to a dentist are afraid and end up losing all of their teeth

From one Mother to another, here is a breif discription of my experience with Kool smiles (the new bedford office). One afternoon I was brushing my two year old sons teeth when I noticed a small pin size hole in one of his canine teeth. I immediately got online to find a dentist for my son that would accept my health insurance and when I came upon Kool smiles in the list of providers I was extatic! I had seen their commercials on televison and I knew it would be a great place to bring him because the enitre place was geared toward children his age. I called to setup the appointment which I was able to get very qucikly (now I know why). We arrived the morning of our visit and my son could not have been more excited to find a little climbing area with a slide and other children to play with while he waited, I thought "what a great idea to make the dentist seem like a fun place to try to ease the fear of the little ones instead of having them sitting in a waiting room fearing what would happen when it was their turn". I filled out the usual new patient paper work and after about 40 minutes we were in the room getting x rays and an exam. When the dentist came in the room to examine my sons teeth and look over his x rays she had found that he had six cavities in his mouth and she decided that it would be appropriate to grind down all six teeth and put metal caps on each one of them, I expressed my concern that the cavities were so small they were hardly noticable to the naked and eye and I didnt see why such extreme measures needed to be taken for such small holes. The dentist had explained to me that they are not able to fill cavities in young childrens mouths because they dont last very long when the cavities are "so deep" and that in their office they will not fill them because it isnt their policy. I was very disheartened with their soultion to fix my two years olds teeth so much so that I had decided to go and get a second opinion. I called a new office and got an appointement for four weeks later. When I brought him to this dentist the cavities had gotten alot worse because they were untreated for several weeks while I was waiting to have him seen. We went in the examination room and and had the same exam done, and they reviewed his x rays and the dentist told me that the cavities were so minimal that he wouldnt even need to use novocaine to get them filled since they were only on the surface and had not reached the nerve (mind you kool smiles couldnt fill them because they were "so deep"). He said there was no way that he would need to have any of his teeth capped because the cavities were so minimal. Walking out of the office that day I had felt such a huge sigh of relief that my toddler didnt have to have his teeth ground down and metal caps placed over them! Needless to say I would NOT recommend Kool smiles in anyway they are money hungry and would go as far as putting an innocent two year old through many painful uncessary trips to the dentist to be left with a mouth full of metal caps just to make a buck. Please dont fall for their commercials... the way they get their money to pay for them is compeletly disheartening and unethical.

Felt like a cattle assembly line. My child has never felt pain after a cleaning. I watched thru the window and saw the hygenist working on my childs teeth while talking with co-workers and even looking up to talk while she was moving the instrument on the gums of my child's teeth. My child did not show obvious pain so let her finish. Afterwards, he stated he has a little bit of pain. I had an appt first thing in the morning and waited over an hour before walking out. I was given some lame excuse about people being there before me. The irony is that there is a large sign outside stating, "Short wait time". Never returned again and highly suggest not to take your child there.

OMG. Please do not take your child to this place. I thought it was a child friendly experience for the first time a child goes to the dentist and is the reason I made an appointment. I took my 3 year old there and waited 40 minutes to be seen. Than the women tells me that I could not go in to the room with my son. At first I was very relunctant but she made it seem that the children perfer it that way. I lost my mind for one minute and said ok. She took my son and I went to look through the port hole they give you to see through and there was my three year old on a scale?? I ran into the room and grabbed him from the asst. and left. I wish I had read these reviews before I had taken him there. I dont understand why a place like this exists? What kind of dentist woud think it would be appropriate for a three year old to be by themselves for any amount of time never mind receiving dental work!!! I am glad I followed my senses but I wish I would have left the minute she said I couldnt go in with my son.

I'm not leaving an opinion good or bad about Kool Smiles because right now I do not have one. However, being a dental professional myself I can tell you all that in order to use restraints of any kind, consent must be given!

I brought my children to Kool Smiles a couple of years ago-big mistake! They were taken from me to sit on the assembly line of chairs (that's all these children are to them, an assembly line to make money). My son, 3 years old at the time, was left sitting by himself for about 15 minutes, looking so scared, I thought about just leaving then, and I should have. I was told that they had 7 cavities between both kids, and I knew that was bull, because they get checkups every 6 months, and they take care of their teeth. I brought them to a real pediatric dentist, and my daughter had 1 small cavity, my son had none! I would not bring my pet to Kool Smiles-they are willing to drill, cap, and pull out childrens' perfectly healthy teeth to put money in their pocket.
And as for Bob C.'s comments, the "ignorant individuals" are the "dentists" who care only about how much money they can get for unnecessary work, not the parents who are smart enough to seek out professional, honest dentists for their children. And your cavity comment makes absolutely no sense, since the whole point is that these children don't actually have these cavities.

Never ever take your child to Kool Smile!! I took my 5 year old daughter for a regular 6 months check-up and cleaning. They found lots of cavities, an assistent said my girl needs 6 metal cups on her teeth. It was hard for me to believe it, especially that I take a good care of her teeth. So I took a second opinion, and I am glad I did. The doctor found only one little cavity! He showed it to me on x-ray . I was in shock!! This is outrageos!!! My little girl would have her healthy teeth trimmed all around and glued the metal cups on them!!! Why? So that Kool Smile can have more money!!! I can't believe it. How dr. Newman can sleep at night??? I will never take my girl to that place. I know there are good , very good dentists over there too, but I don't want to risk my child's teeth.

Kool smiles is a joke. for you people in the mass area, i have medicade for my child and took him to boston childrens hospital where they put him under general anethesia and did all of his dental work while he was asleep (he is 2) No restraints, no pain, no memory of it. My sister took her 4 year old to kool smiles and the poor kid is traumatized by what those dentists did to him. I think if more people knew that there was more options for their children you wouldnt end up at a place like this.
Call dr. Aang at BOS childrens hospital dept of dentistry, No cost for medicade patients. TOP dentists who actually take good care of your child. I held my son until the minute he fell asleep inside the surgery room, seen all of the x-rays, and was fully aware of everything they had done to him through the surgery via pages by the doctor.

DONT BRING YOUR CHILD HERE

They wouldnt let me go in the room with my child? That should have made me run she is only seven , then they never let me meet the dentist (that's strange). They made the assistant talk with me and try to have me sign lots of paper work. They told me it would only be a few minutes it told 2 hours of not being able to see my child. Then they told me she need a cap put over a tooth that does not even have a cavitiy and they wouldnt let me see the xrays. I feel this place is a rip off and if you have state funded medical insurance they will give you work you dont need and treat you and your child like garage. When my daughter left she was crying so much they really or awful

I agree with Robert B.. definately consider this so called Dental chain if you want your child put in a straight jacket and given laughing gas to keep them under "control". Parents are NOT allowed in the rooms with their children .. no wonder!! My grandson, who by the way is just over 2 year old almost got snagged by these maniacs .. thank goodness my daughter was smarter than that and left in a hurry with him when she saw what was going on .. So much for a Kool experience!!
Run dont walk the other way!!

not for nothing, but it is humorous to read the rantings of ignorant individuals. Can you imagine the patience and skill it requires to treat any patient.. much less, a child? Use your head, folks. Restraints, when used appropriately protect the child, and allow for proper care to be rendered to your "cherished" gift. Oh, and by the way, if your little child has a mouth full of cavities.. who is the culprit? Candy? I think not! Maybe they should have sterilization clinics nearby for the ignorant parent who cant even properly teach their own children proper brushing!!!

If you like your child to be treated roughly or insulted...take them to Kool Smiles. It could be the worst place in the world to take your kid for health care. No specialists in most of their mills, yet they make the public believe their dentists have some special training. It makes me sick to know how they treat kids!! Please send complaints about this organization to your state dental board.

I talked this approach over with the dentist before my daughter went in to have three teeth removed. They told me that they very seldom find restraints, called a papoose, necessary (which is used in conjuction with an assistant who also gently holds the child and sooths them during). They are basically used to keep a child from hurting themselves.

It sounds like the person that thought this "barbaric" did not actually see how the proceedure was handled.

My daughter has been going to Cool Smiles for years now and has never had any problems. She has no fear of the dentist, which is an attestment to their gentle, kind approach.

I was a little nervous about bringing my sons to there because of its size but let me tell you i am so glad i did. Getting my kids to set still is like pulling teeth and the staff there was great with working with them. The office manager came out and introduced himself to me and the kids , then i met an assistant to the doctor who told me what they were going to do, then i met the doctor. Very professional, very nice, very very KOOL. I had some problems with my insurance but the girls at the front helped me . I did see on the papers i signed that they do ofer gas to help the kids relax but they told me it doesnt put them to sleep and i could have put them in a mobilization if i wanted to , i don't want them moving around becasue normally they would, and i okayed it but they didn't need to. My boys are definaetly going back for there checkups ina a few months . I really liked it there and so did they, especially the play gym.

I take my children to Kool smiles. we've never had a bad experience. I find the staff to be very informative, helpful, and caring. Parents are not allowed back in treatment areas, but they do have a veiwing window so you can watch your childs cleaning and examination. I will deffinately keep going.

they put my 6 year old in leg and arm restraints so he could not move very barbaric, they wouldnt let me go back there to see him , when my son got out , he was in so much pain, tears rolling down his face i ended up at cvs that night , only to learn they tied down his legs and arms. NOT a KOOL experience, when i called them to tell them off about the restraints ,they said i sighned. so dont sighn thinking its ok to treat, cause if for a second someone told me they were going to use restraints ,i would have ran .This place is like Mcdonalds fast food. Probelly cheap labor. I called several dentist they couldnt believe what we went through "OH NO we let the parents be we the child, and whenever i mentioned restaints, they thought i was talking something out of the midevil days.
