Reviews for City Cut Salon & Day Spa

Ratings_icons City Cut Salon & Day Spa is the place to go for TR!

Jodi C.

I drive over 4 hours to have Alan Chan do his magic on my African/Caucasian mixed hair. He uses Licisio to straighten my hair. I had this same product/process done on my hair by others, but never has it turned out the way it does with Alan. I exclusively ask that Alan work on my hair and not others as this process is charged by the hour and he has always honored my request. There is some down time the product will sit on the hair and he has time to squeeze a cut in, but I am never left waiting. Its unfortunate that a few others had poor experiences. I highly recommend Alans expertise and I will continue to make that drive every 9-12 months.

Ratings_icons City Cut Salon & Day Spa is fantastic

Jennifer L.

I droved more than 5 hours to City Cut Salon & Day spa the first time last week to get Japanese hair straightening done. What Im going to tell you is that I had fantastic experience! Its worth the drives.

I had the Japanese Hair Straitening done in NYC before, but compare with it, City Cut Salon & Day spa had done much better jobs and in a very reasonable price. They are more experienced and very nice. They made me feel very comfortable a few minutes after I stepped into the salon.

Now my hair is incredible soft, smooth and shiny. I would recommend City Cut Salon & Day Spa to everyone. I definitely would come back for retouch in 9 months.

Ratings_icons GREAT!

I went to City Cuts about a month ago to get the japanese hair straightening process. I would highly recommend this salon! The workers there are very experienced and know what they're doing. I would not go anywhere else to get my hair straightened. 5 stars!

Ratings_icons Very Bad Experience Here

Mary S.

I am a cancer survivor who underwent chemotherapy in Nov. '07. I lost my hair completely. When it grew back it was very curly. I went to City Cuts for a consult and was told they could straighten my hair, no problem and it would be in even better condition after straightening than before. I asked whether a strand test should be done to make sure my newly re-grown hair wouldn't be damage by the process. Owner, Alan Chan, said no test was necessary and assured me all would be fine. Had procedure done and it ruined my hair--stripped out the color and left it orange-blond. Ends of hair were like frayed rope. I am in the process of trying to dispute the charge to my credit card, but Mr. Chan is now lying to the credit card company and telling them he warned me that my hair was in such bad shape before the procedure that there might be damage. Ha! He also told them that I must have colored my hair orange-blond after the procedure. Unbelievable. Also, he quoted me a price of $500 but said the charge was $720 after he ruined my hair. Can you believe this??? I wish there was a rating category below 1 star as this salon is definitely off the chart.

Ratings_icons Poor customer service

Columbus R. | insider Insider | Rank: 32,370

The owner Alan is only interested in chemical service due to the high profit margin. If you have a haircut appointment, he will make you wait while he attends to walk in appointments. So you come away with a very average haircut and after wasting quite some time. Plus they are always forcing you to buy expensive marked up products and want you to have hair straightening since they make lot of money from it ($500+). He never apologizes for making you wait even after having appointment and can be quite rude. He will keep doing chemical service and come over to your chair in between to cut your hair and make you wait. They only take cash on Sundays..some weird salon. Better off at Kenneths or Salon Lofts.

Ratings_icons Be aware! The boss of this Chinese salon is cheat and greedy.

J L.

The boss of this Chinese salon is cheat and greedy. Their price board clearly says that the price for women's service starts from $18.00, but the cutters including the boss personally charge you at least $28.00. I went to this salon for a simple cut the day before yesterday. The cutter, a dull-look man about 30 years old, carelessly finished his work in 5 minutes. I questioned his work, but he murmured some words (maybe not English) without any patience. Then he charged me $28.00 but didn't explain why he was so expensive. I talked to his boss, another man in the salon. This boss was funny. He said that the cutter can charge the clients at his own will. What greedy Chinese!

As to the cutter's work, I would sat that they are just so-so. The cutter I tried was dirty. I won't go to this salon any longer.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me atdoladd@gmail.com, I would like to answer your questions about my awful experiences in this salon.

Ratings_icons Quality Haircut. Appointment is a must

W. S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,788

Alan Chan, the owner does fantastic job with hair styling. Their signature is thermal reconditioning where they straighten curly/frizzy hair. Appointment is a must as they are usually swamped during weekends and after 5pm during weekdays.

PROS: quality hair styling
CONS: wait time could be long
