.

E-Myth was born with the publication of the E-Myth book, now called "E-Myth Revisited." This book was very successful, and although it is not that original (it does have good common sense) and written in a chatty and patronizing tone, it had an impact some thirty years ago by its emphasis on "systems" and the warning that being a specialist ("technician" in E-Myth-speak) does not guarantee business success. The hero of the book's story was, and is, a Mac Donald-like franchise, where you may get junk (food), but at least you don't pay much.

And indeed you don't get much, even though the fees for "coaching" and seminars are not low. The content hasn't changed much over 30 years, and the computer revolution, the Internet, and new models of business (eBay, web start-ups, etc.) are not truly considered. Worse, the "coach" will never see and experience your company. S/he will phone you and deliver "advice" from a script taken, more or less, from the 30-year old book.

E-Myth also offers seminars in a lush setting in wine country, where hands-on advice is largely substituted by spoiling you in a pretty wine-and-dine environment of a Sonoma winery. Expensive, of course.

The creator of E-Myth, Michael Gerber, is a great salesman who has done well for himself. Many of his fellow gurus praise him. But most of the people I was with when attending a seminar consider the whole E-Myth thing a hoax.

The biggest hoax is Gerber's new book, "Awakening the Entrepreneur," which encourages dreaming about the big breakthrough instead of working for the small advantage.

Beware!

.

If you?re an entrepreneur getting started in business or a business owner feeling trapped and overwhelmed by your business, E-Myth can help. They are the experts in getting systems in place so that your business can grow and you can spend more time doing the things you enjoy.

Their programs take a holistic approach to business by focusing on your role as a leader, developing business skills, and getting free of the business. E-Myth pretty much invented the business coaching space.

I just noticed that they have some new online courses as well.

PROS: online courses, live events, and tele-coaching options, so much good info
CONS:
