Elm Knoll Farm

I visited Elm Knoll for the first time on a Friday afternoon. It was dead, nobody was there to greet us. My husband and three children were waiting in the front area where we saw a cash register figuring someone would come out to collect our money.Finally a couple minutes went by and a guy told us what to do.But to see all those small dogs running around, and crossing that busy street,I was very uncomfortable that my children were going to experience a dog getting hit right in front of us. Plus, like there's not enough dog's,puppies already ,a male and female were going at it again to produce more, so sad, too many dogs and some had issues! The dog's are the ones who suffer. Someone please help these dogs!!

In the fall, when the pumpkins are ready to be picked, this is the place to go. There is a tractor to take you out to the "patch". The views are pretty good. There is a petting zoo area, and a maze for the kids. A little pricey I think, but you have to try it at least once.

Having visited Elm Knoll Farm twice, my experiences varied. The first time was on a Sunday, when the place is bustling with people as well as activities, such as live music, face painting and a ballon artist for the children. Also, on the weekends, there is a limited menu available, of hot dogs, hamburgers,popcorn, drinks and free grilled corn (which was fabulous). These "extras" are in addition to Elm Knoll's regular offerings of animals in view, from cows to pigs to a baby kangaroo, displays of pumpkins in various decorations and hayrides to the pumpkin patch. On the weekend, the price is a bit higher ($7 pp vs $5 pp during the week). Also, throughout the area, friendly, small dogs roam visiting the patrons. My Sunday visit was pleasant for both my husband and muself as well as my 2 year old, and I would go again. One thing I noticed that was disappointing, was that the pumpkin patch that the hayride takes you to was hard to walk through and many of the pumpkins were rotten. Even the employee driving the hayride suggested that the better pumpkins were already picked and available in the main area. The admission at Elm Knoll was a bit higher than I would have liked, but they allowed my child in for free.
I returned on Wednesday of that week, to a completely different environment. First, I was charged for myself and my 2 year old. Then, I observed the friendly dogs eating a dead animal right in the open where the employees could easily see (as could my child), but did nothing about it. The only things available at Elm Knoll during the week were the animals to see, the pumpkins on display and limited hayrides. Being that there was so little going on, my child and I went through the whole place in less than one hour, and didn't even bother to wait to go on another hayride. Overall, I would go back on the weekend, but would not do so during the week.

PROS: Fun weekend family activities
CONS: Admission is expensive and dull during the week
