The Scene
Owner Anne Phyfe Palmer wants students to explore a variety of hatha yoga styles under one roof, which is not an option at many other studios in Seattle. Ashtanga, Iyengar, kundalini, prenatal and postnatal yoga are some of the classes she offers. High ceilings and hardwood floors lend a warm feel. Adding comfort: a water cooler and a changing room.

The Workout
You'll get what Palmer calls a "down-to-earth" yoga experience. Translation: Newcomers won't be intimidated, but classes will be enriching and challenging. In the gentle prenatal classes, students share issues so the class can be tailored to meet their needs, using postures that prepare them for labor and pregnancy pain. Mats and other props are available to use at no cost. A small selection of clothing, mats and music are available for purchase in the boutique.

Yoga Nirvana

by Ariel S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,265

I prefer practicing yoga at a yoga center, rather than the gym. It's expensive to pay for yoga classes in addition to monthly dues. However, the quality of the instruction is uniformly better at a yoga studio. And the students seem less competitive. I recommend buying your own mat, as it is more sanitary.

8 Limbs is a leader in philanthropy and community

by Genessa

8 Limbs Yoga Centers is a brilliant yoga studio. Besides from having fantastic teachers, Anne Phyfe-Palmer has created a true yogic community based on philanthropy, generosity, caring and love. 8 Limbs Yoga Centers was a major donor to the Equalityoga event on June 27th. Maygen McGrew of 8 Limbs was one of the lead instructors and Anne Phyfe-Palmer acted as an event advisory. With her support it was easy to engage other Seattle yoga studios. It's amazing to work with and practice in a studio that leads with it's values by creating loving and supportive community. This commitment ripples throughout the Seattle community. We are blessed to have this business in our city.

Pros: Amazing instructors, amazing values based business

Cons: none

Best yoga in the city

by kareno75

I was not a yoga person but was very curious about it. I signed up for the beginner series with Jenny about 3 years ago and now I am hooked. I have not taken a class I don't like. Douglas is definitely my favorite. 8 limbs is a non-competitive environment that provides a lot of stress relief after work. The gym is not for me and 8 limbs provides a way for me to get my exercise and calm my mind. I cannot recommend it enough!

Excellent instructors, relaxing & meditative spot to enhance your mind/body and spirit in an urban setting

by vuduzombie

8 Limbs is an oasis of goodness for the mind and body in the heart of Capitol Hill (their original and most popular location). The instructors are highly skilled, knowledgable, caring and nurturing. I've been practicing here for 2+ years and have grown immensely because of it. Pricing is average for occassional practitioners and a good deal for regulars (2+ times a week). Their new customer deal (2 months for $99) is a steal and will provide you enough time start to see the benefits. They have a fair number of instructors and class/time offerings at their three locations for you to sample and find your preferences. The Cap Hill location can tend to be a bit noisy from the street and neighbors, but it allows one to work on maintaining focus in the reality of a world with minor distractions all around you. Overall, the 8 Limbs team has created a relaxing, noncompetitive, non-pretentious environment for yoga students of all abilities. Highly Recommended.

Pros: multiple locations, variety of classes, GREAT instructors, good pricing for regulars.

Cons: 2+ years and no cons worth mentioning

8 Limbs is great

by dstrok

I've been going to 8 Limbs for about half a year and love it! I was not a very flexible person and while I loved going to yoga classes in my gym, it still intimidated me since I wasn't that flexible. Now that I've been going to 8 limbs about 3 times a week, I feel better, I am more flexible, and enjoy yoga classes. The teachers are very friendly and really "teach" the poses rather than lead the class.

Pros: Good Class times, friendly staff, Apparatus provided

Cons: Off street parking, some classes full
