It was nice to see a caring dentist with a nice receptionist. Ruth helped me with my insurance payments and Dr. Zerafat did a root canal for me. I need to go back and get my crown. I'm still little sore, but the ibuprofen is kikking it.Thanks any ways for your help and God bless your heart.

I had major pain, called Dr. Z at 9pm and asked for an appt. ASAP.
Next morning (sat.) he met me at his office and examined my tooth.
It turned out that I had a crack under my old filling and a major cavity had started.
He did his best to save my tooth from a root cannel, then made me a temp. crown.
The final product was ready in 3 days, but due to my busy work schedule I couldn't find the time to visit his office for about 2 weeks after the initial visit. I should say the temp. crown was doing its job perfectly and had no problems w/ it. Maybe that's why I put it off for so long, haha. The pain was gone immediately after my initial visit, the whole process was virtually painless. Got my final crown placed the other day, it's awesome, feels and works like a real tooth. I couldn't be more happier with the whole process. I should mention his staff, office decor and music were awesome too. Most definitely he'll be my personal dentist from now on and I'll refer all my family and friends to him. Thanks doc for your help and the most desirable dental visit ever

My old crown came off last week and i was in such a horrible pain. i serached for a dentist in twon. i got Dr. Zerafat's phone number on line and i called him. He gave me same day appointment and i went to his office Dream Smile. His front desk ,Ruth, was a nice lady and helped me to find my insurance card and she calculated the portion of my payment. After x-ray, Dr.Zerafat examined my tooth. it turned out that i needed a new crown and a build up. So, Dr.Zerafat repaired my tooth with a teporary crown.i feel no pain and i have an appoinment next week to get my real crow.such a relief.

I went in to have a filling because my old one fell out. I take very good care of my teeth so I wasn't expecting anything else to be wrong. When I was examined he told me I needed a deep cleaning witch was surprisingly painful. He also said I had 3 cavities. And as for the filling that fell out, he recommended that he might be able to save the tooth if he put in a crown! I had no idea that a dentist could be such a scammer, but I have since learned my lesson. The temp crown that he put in was very painful for the week I had it in waiting for the permanent to come in. I had to constantly pop aspirin to deal with the pain. When I came in for the crown it didn't fit! He installed it anyway, making it fit by shaving it down with his grinder. It does not even look like a tooth. He mostly did not explain anything he was doing and was not even courteous to his own assistants! I say stay away from this dentist. He should have his license taken away.

I haven't gone to a dentist for years cause i was afraid. after visiting Dr.Zearaft's office, i felt more comfortable. i was referred to him by one of my co-worker.my molar was killing me and i was taking medication for few months cause i didn't have any money to fix it.at my first visit to dream smile, Dr. Zerafat looked at my x-ray and told me that there is a possibility that he can save my tooth but he must do the root canal and crown to save it. well, i didn't have any money and my credit card was maxed out. he offered monthly payment plan so i can save my tooth and pay it later.his secretary, Arlene was nice to me and she tried to set me up with care credit.later that day, Dr.Zerafat did the root canal on my tooth and my crown would be ready by next two weeks.I'm so glad that my tooth is saved now.i would highly recommend everyone to Dr.Zerafat's office.

I moved to San Diego last year.My gum was bleeding ever since i moved to SD.i went to a few dentists in PB and they all wanted to do the deep cleaning on my mouth.i asked around and i was referred to Dr.Zerafat. He fixed me up with some medication (Arrestin) that stopped my bleeding and it cost me less than the other.i was happy with his service too. Overall, good dental office.

I guess i was wrong about Dr.Zerafat. apparently my insurance gave me a wrong info about what is elective and what is a covered benefit.after going to another dental office i figured that Dr. Zerafat was right about my insurance policy. so, i'm clear now and my apology to D.Zerafat

i recently got dental insurance, and i was automatically placed with dream smile. i went for a simple cleaning. i got there and was told immediately after my x-ray that my gums were bad and i needed some fluoride treatment which cost me over $260. also he said that i had 4 cavities, needed a crown for my wisdom teeth, etc etc etc. his explanations of the procedures were unclear to me and he basically said it was urgent to get these procedures done! surprise surprise, none of this procedures were covered by my insurance. i only found out they were an option when i contacted my insurance company directly.
after he told me about this expensive procedures, he left, and had his secretary run in ready to charge my credit card. i was so frazzled i decided to trust him and do it. i found out later that it was not needed
he also did a DEEP CLEANING and DID NOT inform me of it. The whole time, I was wondering why I saw blood shooting out of my gums, as i was struggling to stay still in my chair due to the pain. I only found out later that it was a deep cleaning after i called the office back a few days later to get a list of procedures i had done.
basically, after coming out of the office, i had spent over $260, and waiting to spend another $750+ on later visits to fix the cavities. they told me it'd cost $135 per cavity, but did not tell me anything else (i.e. material they would use to cover cavity).
i found out later that my insurance covers silver cavity fillings. I called Zerafat's office back and told them i wanted the silver fillings done on my teeth and i wanted a price quote. they never called me back, probably because it was covered by my insurance and they'd get no money. i immediately canceled all my appointments and switched dentists.
the secretary was very rude. she told me it was my fault that i had to get these procedures done, etc etc. her attitude made my day very unpleasant. the doctor seemed interested only in the money he would get. don't get fooled by the way he talks, if you listen carefully, you'll realize he's not giving you any real information. or at least, not information you will be able to understand until it's too late.

I could write a NOVEL on all the awful things that happened. Long story short, me and my husband were never told that ALL of the procedures Dr. Zarafat did were "elective" procedures, meaning that they were not necessary. I assumed that when the DR. says you have a filling, it needs to be done. By him writing "elective" behind each procedure that meant it is not covered by insurance and he charged up WAY more than we expected. SUCH A SCAM! and they never gave my the itemized list of procedures when I asked them to.

DO NOT GO HERE. My insurance recently changed from PPO to HMO due to a new job. I just got back from having my first appt. here this morning. They took my x rays and examined my teeth. I was told that I had a cavity on one side $165 (never had one in my life), erosion on the other $165, needed a special cleaning called a full mouth debridement $65, and a fluoride treatment $35. Really struck me as kind of strange b/c I have never had a problem with my oral hygiene before. I decided to get the cavity removed since it seemed urgent, and rescheduled the rest. I asked them about a cleaning and they told me that needed to be done at a later date. You would think they would have at least offered a normal cleaning as an option under my insurance plan. When I got into work today I talked to my co-worker who also tried this dentist. He had a similar experience, and we both left with a bad taste in our mouth.Another little tidbit that was kind of amusing, when they told me what I needed done and what the charges were, the receptionist ran back and grabbed my credit card on the spot to charge me. Never had that happen before - always paid at the end. Go to Dr. Fremont in PB. I miss him. He's honest, funny, and never tried to sell me swamp land in FL during my appt. I wish he accepted HMO. I guess it's true - "sometimes you don't realize what you had till its gone!

Udate- 5/7/09-
I complained to Aetna- Both Russ (below) and myself. They found he charged me for treatments I wasn't told about and he has to refund $290 for the fillings. They said they couldn't comment on whether the debridement was proper or not, but the amount charged was correct, so there was nothing they could do.
Russ was told he was also to get a refund and they were in the process of determing the correct amount.

In my life, I have 1 cavity and a wisdom tooth extraction. Over the last 9 years I have had 5 other dentists. I go every 6 months for cleaning. I have been told by more than one hygienist how perfect my teeth are. They practically cream in their jeans. I've been told by many that 1 person in 100 doesn't have teeth like mine.I went to this dentist because my dental plan switched and he was the only provider in my zip code with Aetna HMO.I was immediately told by Zarafat I needed a deep cleaning and my gums were in terrible condition. I was also told I need a crown and a base filling. Nothing he recommended was covered by my health plan. The deep cleaining was $220 and the filling was $290- $510 total- which they charged my debit card while I was still in the chair before they started work.I was told the crown would be $750 which they tried to schedule soon and they attempted to schedule the next deep cleaning for 3 months out (they said I need 4 total). The $500 was already than I have ever spent total in my life on dentistry out of pocket. I called Aetna that day to check if I had been ripped off and continued to call them over the next few days in an attempt to speak to someone who wasn't clueless, to no avail. My work associate also went to Dr. Overcharge on needless procedures. When we spoke, our experience was nearly identical. He had never had a cavity and the scam artist found one. He also was give a fluoride treatment and told he needed some kind of scaling that wasn't covered. He WASN'T even given the cleaning he went in for.STAY AWAY.

On March 3, 2009, I was scheduled for a regular dental check up and cleaning covered by my insurance. My co pay should have been $5.00. When I walked into Dream Smile, I was greeted with a blank Patient Consent form and a $108.00 charge. I did not understand what these charges were for and was very confused. The receptionist was rude and short with me. She made me feel like I was an inconvenience to her day, so I assumed I could trust my doctor and signed the Patient Consent form and paid the charge. Dr. Fray Zerafat rushed through the Periodontal Maintenance which cost me an additional $73.00 and walked out. He never did a dental check up which I believed was the entire reason for my visit. The dental hygienist came in and gave me a Preventive Topical Fluoride which I've never had in the past and that cost me a fee of $35.00. I left Dream Smile feeling like Dr. Zerafat took advantage of me and my whole day was completely ruined.
Later that day I called Dr. Zerafat and asked him why I was charged so much. He explained that he recommended the Periodontal Maintenance and the Preventive Topical Fluoride, and the cost was the discounted rate from my insurance. I explained that I was very confused when I signed the Patient Consent form and would have never agreed to a $73.00 charge for Periodontal Maintenance since my Periodontist had just preformed one a few months ago. This was very clearly explained to the dentist by myself, the patient. I also told him that I had no idea I was receiving a Preventive Topical Fluoride treatment due to not being informed, and therefore would have never had it done if I knew it would cost me $35.00. Dr. Zerafat refused to refund my money.
Dr. Zerafat??s office acted in a very unprofessional manner and did a very poor job of relaying information to me as the patient. I feel I was ??scammed? and would like this opportunity to report his practice to the Better Business Bureau.

I have had the worst experience with Dream Smile and will NEVER EVER return. I went in for a route canal. He then told me that I needed an implant (3,000.00) I have had half of that process done. He began on the 2nd part of the implant and did such a terrible job that now my bone on my jaw line is exposed and killing me. I went back to him and asked him what the problem was. He proceeded to tell me that I may need a route canal on the top tooth as well at the bottom one. I went and got a second opinion and they X-Rayed me and saw no need for a route canal. They told me that my bone was exposed and that was the reason for the pain. If I had listened to Dr. Z I would be out around $6,000. Now I have a screw sticking out of my mouth and I am in terrible amounts of pain and will have to stick it out until the skin grows back. If the skin doesn't not grow back then I have to have a skin graph from the roof of my mouth done. I have never be so upset and it seemed like all he cared about was getting money from me.

my insurance changed so i had to pick a dentist near by in my " network " so i chose this one. i went to this dentist to get a routine 6 month cleaning. they took the x rays and then told me i needed a crown ? which they said i was gonna have to pay $750 dollars for. i thought it was a little weird that they said i needed a crown, i havent missed an appointment in years with my other dentist and all of the sudden i need a crown. huh ? so then they tell me im done and i needed to reschedule my appointment. when i told them i couldnt afford 750 and just wanted a cleaning they were instantly rude to me and sent me on my way. so i come back a week later for my cleaning. they spent about 5 minutes on my teeth and said i was done ! they basically brushed my teeth for me ! didnt scrape any plaque off or anything, just took the polisher and barely went over my teeth. worst dentist experience i have ever been through. dont waste your time with this place.

I went to Dr. Zerafat for an initial exam and was told I had 2 cavaties and needed crowns...also told I needed a deep cleaning as well as a regular cleaning. I have never had a cavity before. They said I needed to schedule another appointment for the work to be done (a second appointment=another co-pay). In my past experience with other dentists I have always had a cleaning the same day as my exam! I felt suspicious when quoted an out-of-pocket cost of $800+ for all this work, above and beyond what my insurance would cover. After getting a second opinion from a different dentist I was told I DID NOT have any cavaties and I DID NOT need a deep cleaning and in fact, the second dentist told me my teeth were in great condition.

I took my little girl to Dr. Zerafat and he immediately knew where her pain was coming from. We spoke about the diagnosis and I was sure she's under good hands. I loved the whole processes and he is great with kids. All I can say is wow, he's just great! :-)
I read the comment below and I was too referred by my family physician to Dr. Zerafat.

I had the pleasure of visiting Dr. Zerafat and wittiness his fine art work first hand. I had been in pain for years from an old crown work and few doctors have already tried to correct the pain, but not successful. To make a long story short, none of the doctors during the last few years managed to relieve me from this ongoing pain. I was at a medical conference a month ago and I was referred to Dr. Zerafat by a colleague of mine who practices in San Diego and knows about his fine precise art work. I finally had a chance to visit this fine doctor and at a glance he diagnosed exactly what the problem with my crown was and asked if I had time to fix the problem and of course I said yes. After an hour I couldn't believe I was pain-free, it's been so long that I was actually getting used to the pain. As a medical Doctor I recommend this jewel of San Diego to all of my colleagues. If you want the finest dentistry care in the San Diego region visit him and mention I sent you.
With Great Pleasure,
Pete

He is all about getting your money- does not care about you, the patient, at all! The last time I was there he told me to save my money for him. What? Who says that? Plus, the cleaning was less than sufficient. I was extremely unhappy with his services.

I had a VERY similar experience as the one below. I am a young woman who has been going to the dentist twice a year for cleaning since I was a child. I just recently moved to San Diego and had to choose a new dentist. I have never had any major work, or problems with my teeth...actually I am always told that I have beautiful teeth...
After just 5 minutes, the doctor claimed that there was a tooth that 'needed to be saved' that would cost me $5000. He also said that my teeth needed a deep cleaning and medication for my gums which would cost $150 per quadrant (or $600 for my whole mouth).
I thought the doctor was very dismissive and disrespectful. When I questioned his prognosis, and told him that I was not interested in paying that amount that day, he immediately told me that I was all set and left the room. The front staff was also very dismissive. I WILL NOT be going back to this dentist, will continue to tell my friends not to as well, and will be changing delta plans as soon as open enrollment begins.

Went in with insurance and he quickly looked at my teeth and determined I needed antibiotic treatment of "four quadrants" at
$2,000, $500 out of pocket. This analysis was literally done based on an xray of a crooked tooth and some poking of my gums. He claimed the xray proved I needed the treatment. Call me crazy but how does a crooked tooth signal bacterial growth? He was very short and non-descript with everything he did. The whole experience felt like a scam. Avoid this guy!
