The Tarrytown House Estate and Conference Center is truly lovely to see. It recaptures the beauty of a time long forgotten. It's a shame that its unparalleled charm disappears once you start uncovering the truth about this establishment. Many lies were unethically told to us while we were still prospective clients, up until the very day of my wedding. We were told that we would be the only wedding that night. Technically, they didn't lie, but they didn't tell the whole truth either. There was a Batmitzva letting out only 15 minutes before my guests were to arrive. The traffic was ridiculous because the grounds are old; their pathways narrow. It took over an hour for my guests to valet their cars. They failed to mention that there is no room service on weekends. It's a bloody hotel! Hotel=Room Service.Period. Well, not there! They host conferences, so every room is occupied, and they actually asked us to be quiet. I'm not usually like this, but it was my bloody GD wedding day. Don't shush me and my family for enjoying ourselves. I was not treated the way a bride should be treated by any means. I had no attendant, the worst bedroom in the place, my husband's changing room was just that, a room, no chairs, nothing. They stood around looking at each other, dying of thirst. Oh yeah, did I mention that yet? Everything is a la carte. you do not get a soda while you are getting ready without paying $5 for it. A bucket of 12 beers cost $75! Not a thing was included in the price, that was absurd, by the way, for the entire night! The room my hubbie and I slept in--i must admit-- was lovely; it had a second story wrap around view of the Hudson. Gorgeous! We spent most of our time out there, but you don't sleep on the balcony. Our bed was a full size mattress. Full? For Newlyweds? The sheets were like table linens: itchy and hard. When we went to change our room to a newer suite, they said they didn't have any available, but my cousin who checked in at 9 pm that night got an upgrade to a suite. In fact, our guests got treated better than we did. Everyone said the food was great-I really wouldn't know--the bridal family never eats at their own affair--They loved the look of the pl;ace and their rooms. A few people received bar vouchers for a free drink or so. Oh speaking of the bar, there's another lie. They told us that we could have an after party at the bar. She told me it was open til 1 am, but if that if we took care of the bar tenders, that they would stay as long as we wanted. I guess I should have asked the bar tenders first. Again, lies. The bar closes at 12:30, no ifs, ands, or dollar bills. They said that security would have their head, and they have tried to do that for kind folks like us, but they got into trouble, and the folks were thrown out on their keesters! Because it rained and there were other parties, functions, meetings going on and letting out, my photographer was flaber-gasted! He didn't know where to put us! The gorgeous old world look that I had dreamt about was ruined because they lied, and they weren't very helpful when my photographers asked them where to go. They had no suggestions.
I must admit, that night, I had a ball, and I was as happy as could be, but that's because I was getting married. (PS if you aren't that happy that day, and you are concerned a bit too much about the trivial nonsense, then you many have to take a hard look at your relationship. All brides are happy that day!) They did not meet any of our expectations; they are not a good deal, and I would highly discourage you from getting married there. If you want to go to a seminar there, I'm sure it's lovely.
