Spent three digit bucks for towing plus three days worth of new problems made by a local mechanic, called bill for an advice, as usual Bill made correct diagnosis over the phone which the local mechanic could not fix (period).

Eventually towed the e28 to Bill's place (a crossed three counties) and fixed entire problems including the ones that caused and gift wrapped by the local mechanic within no time.

I personally have dealt with over 20 mechanics for my bmws and I have never came crossed a master mechanic like bill (he really listens to your car!!).

It is always comfortable to go back to Bill's shop (they really treat you as if you are a long time friend) and I know Bill and his crew will do what ever it takes to fix the beamer...

Pros: really loves to work on your car as they know exactly what they are doing.

Cons: pet the german shepard outside, he will stand up and give you paw stamps on your shirt

I bough my first car ever, without knowing enough about it and made the mistake of not checking it out properly beforehand. Needless to say i got scammed, and was left with a car needing substantial repairs. In this hopeless situation I was dreading the experience of going to a mechanic, but found L&M Foreign cars here on citysearch and decided to take it there to see what could be done. I was met with honesty and understanding, although they were quick to point out my mistake of not checking a used car out properly before buying. I decided to bite the bullet and do the necessary repairs. What was done was done, and L&M would help me sort it out. I handed the car in on a monday, and on wednesday I got the call telling me everything was ready. Very quick service indeed, and absolutely NO bs in the process. They were straight and upfront about costs, and why the repairs where needed. When I came to pick it up, the lifted the car up and showed me what they had done plus showed me the old broken parts. I left a happy customer. A couple of thousand dollars poorer, but with a great running car, itemized bill and a huge weight of my shoulders. Later in the evening, they called me up just to ask if the car was running ok and if I was happy with everything. Amazing. You won't find that kind of concern for your customers at many places(regardless of business) in this country. I strongly recommend these guys.

. I had a mechanic in my town to take a look at the car i decided to bring it to NY after a month of not getting definitive answers about the condition of the car and what needs to be done.I found out about L &M by doing an extensive search on the Internet for a quality mechanic shop. After reading the reviews I still felt a little uneasy, even though the reviews were all approving excellent work. So, I decided to visit the location. Upon arrival I notice it was a small mechanic shop that seem to have been around for a while. Even though I did not feel fully confident to have my BMW repaired there I decided to speak to the owner Bill who greeted me the moment I drove in.He asked me about the problems with the car and I told him the car would shakes after driving . Also, the check engine light was missing. he took care of my car with no problem ,what a great shop

Many other reviewers have attested to the honest service and high-quality work at this shop, and I can add my voice to the choir. The service is great. When my 1992 Range Rover stalled near the shop, Bill even sent a mechanic to get me started and bring the car back in for a free check-up. They may charge a bit more than other shops, but they're careful with your money: they clearly described the value of more expensive repairs and were happy to let me forestall less important work. They were also happy to have me bring in my own parts when I could find high-quality alternatives for less. I'm no mechanic, but of the two repairs I've gotten so far (starter work and a major tune-up) their work has produced results that were even better than I expected. I am a happy returning customer. The only drawback is the lack of a nearby subway, but the express bus to the subway is only a couple of blocks away, and it is well worth the extra effort knowing that the job will be done carefully and properly.

The reviews are right on the money, and every review you'll read is true. Bill and Michael really do their best to help you understand how to properly maintain your vehicle and avoid costly repairs in the future -- they truly are enthusiasts at what they do. The staff is on point, the repairs are prompt, and there are no surprises when you get your bill. They're 'matter of fact' when it comes to diagnosing your car and being honest with the customer when it comes to mandatory repairs, and they strive to satisfy. Yes, they also answer the phone and are personable. They get to know you on a first-name basis.

L&M is mostly affordable -- not cheap, but then again you get what you pay for: expert service. Not a rip-off like the stealership, and not poor workmanship from a shade tree mechanic. If you're a foreign car owner, don't let your stealership convince you that 'they know your foreign car the best'. There are many quality independent mechanics out there, and L&M is one of them.

When you're knowledgable and true to your profession like Bill and Michael, it shows.

I WENT TO L & M FOREIGN CARS FOR A CHECK UP , FROM THE MOMENT I WALKED THROUGH THE DOOR, BILL AND MICHAEL TOOK CARE OF EVERYTHING, FROM EXPLANATIONS TO REPAIR, L & M FOREIGN CARS TOOK CARE OF IT ALL. THEY EVEN WENT AS FAR TO SAY WHAT WAS NEEDED AND WHEN AND ALL IN A LIST OF PRIORITIES FROM "MUST BE DONE" TO "CAN BE DONE" TO "FUTURE MAINTENANCE". I WILL NEVER BRING MY CAR TO ANYONE ELSE.

Billy and Michael at L&M walk you through every step of the process. Excellent customer service. You are made aware of exactly what is being done. They make sure you are satisfied. I highly reccomend this repair shop to anyone who wants to get their car repaired and not have any doubts that they will have their car properly fixed and in a reasonable amount of time at very competitive prices.

I found out about this shop and am very pleased. As a single female I usually feel like mechanic shops will take advantage of you... BUT this shop is quite the opposite. They take the time to educate you, they provide an itemized bill, they let you know if the repair is of high or low priority, they accomadate your schedule and their work is reliable... I have audi - which not everyone can work on - BUT this shop is a keeper and I come all the way from the bronx :)ps my friend olso has a bmw and he loves them

On my way to Cambridge almost 2 months ago, I took my 2002 Passat into the DEALER for a quick oil change and a lightbulb. I was told that they would have to clean out the engine and replace a hose...$675+$90. I took my car back after paying almost $300 for them to do the oil change and labor for ALMOST putting in a lightbulb...did I mention that I'm a student?

So out of nowhere, my brake failure light comes on this week. The car manual directed me to the DEALER and that was it for me. I did a search on the net and came up with L&M FOREIGN CARS which seemed to have a great reputation. Licensing was displayed clearly on their site and they'd been in business for almost 40 years.

Billy, the owner, and his son Michael are an auto repair Dream Team with a super-knowledgeable staff, and superior customer service. Upon inspection of my VW, L&M immediately informed me that my engine DID NOT have to be cleaned out as my DEALER had warned me, and that it would actually cause harm to the engine...I would just have to change the oil every 2-3000 miles. Not only that, but I was driving on a BROKEN AXLE and some other minor issues. All of which were presented to me for my eyes to see. Mind you, the DEALER NEVER NOTICED THE BROKEN AXLE (and it wasn't a recent occurence). They waited for my go ahead before any repairs were made and were able to get me a $790 axle for $198 in a matter of minutes, which I don't guarantee everytime, but Michael tried REALLY hard to find the best deal and called around! I'm soooo grateful!

For a COMPLETE OVERHAUL of the car INCLUDING REPAIRS, I ended up paying LESS than what I would've payed the DEALER to simply clean out the engine! It was worth my traveling down from the Mount Vernon area to Brooklyn! My car hasn't run like this since it was purchased in 2001!

A couple of his regulars showed up towards the end of my day and it was like an L&M FORIEGN CARS infomercial...They will not bring their cars to anyone else and neither will I.

Fast quality service...No Waiting...Replaced my exhaust system on the spot. Bill was very knowledgeable and friendly and was more than happy to walk me through the entire repair process from start to finish. Bill seemed to have a better understanding of my car than the dealership and completed the job for 40% less than the dealership estimate. Lots of happy customers around.

What was so different about my visit to L&M was that the mechanic really took the time to explain what might be causing my car to flood during storms and what he could do to fix it. I ate breakfast at the diner down the street while he worked. When I returned, I found my car fixed and even completely cleaned and vacuumed. While fixing the flooding problem, the mechanic replaced my cabin filter, which he showed me. It was covered in filth.

He then changed the oil, and while I was waiting, showed me how to visually inspect my brakes. I followed him as he ran around the garage, showing me old, worn brake disks and compared them to new ones, showed me how to inspect my own brake pads. His son pointed out to me the underparts of my car and how to change my oil (which I'll still leave to the experts with equipment). Then we played with the dogs while someone else cleaned my engine. I really didn't want to go back to work. It would have been much nicer to hang out there all day and learn about cars.

The crew at L&M is not only the best I've seen in technical abilities, but also in customer service. They knew exactly what needed to be fixed, and I had solid price estimates, long before any work was started. In addition, they completely understood my financial situation an helped me prioritize the work that was essential to safe vehicle operation. As soon as we agreed on what needed to be fixed, the employees went directly to work, and had my vehicle completed under the estimated completion time. I cannot stress enough how much I recommend this shop. I will certainly bring my vehicle back for any further service.

He'll tell you what you need and why, how much it'll cost and how long it'll take, and that's that. And if you want to hang around, he'll reveal the mysteries of the timing belt and tell you how to keep your car in great working condition,. He answers the phone himself. He knows your car better than you do.bring your car to them .they are nice people...

i took my car to land m foreign cars and they did a great job ,i could not pass my inspection because my engine light was on all the time ,i took it o 5 shops and they all told me it was fixed but after spending i took my car to l and m foreign cars after five shop told me they fixed my engine light and spending over $900.00 dollars and having the same problem, bill told me that he has to smoke my car to see if there is a air leak boy he was right after he told me the cost and told me i have no more problems ,boy he was right the car was inspected and i had no more problems ,it fells like a new car ,he has my business for as long i have a car , take your car to them they will fix your problems ,great shop

I made the mistake of going to a Manhattan BMW dealership after I bought my 1991 M5. Bad call. The price was through the roof, and they couldn't help me unless I signed away my children's future. A friend of mine, who races M3's, said I needed to find a guy in a lab coat wearing a stethascope... sort-of the cliche BMW mechanic. Well, I found him.

I found out about L&M on this site, and decided to give it a try. I commend myself for an excellent choice. They have the tools and the know-how to fix my car! Bill and his son are excellent. They fixed my problem, and answered every question I had. If you own an older BMW, you can't go wrong with L&M. I'm going back in a few weeks to fix my door handle (a little sticky). I'm not rich because I own a bimmer; I just like them. They understand that. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

If you have a VW/Audi - go to L & M. Bill was very clear about what he needed to know what was wrong with my car (1999 Passat V6). I had it worked on previously by another honest mechanic - but I NEEDED a technican. He even called the previous mechanic to ask what work they did!

All German cars NEED maintenance and tweaking - even when everything is working fine. That's what I appreciate about them - they are precision machines and must be treated as such. Oddly enough, I suspected that my car hadn't been fixed specifically the first time - Bill helped me with this conclusion.

Bill, Mike and Mark have been helpful and clear about my car issues - and what I could have done to fix the problem right IF I saw them first.

Yes, the location is out of the way - but their attention to detail isn't. With the quality issues VW has experienced the past five years, L & M should be able to get you back on track with your car.

Should I have a need for a technician for any German car in the future - I'll know where to go.

You won't belive the service you get from these guys. They fixed things the dealers overlooked for years -- I mean important things like the fuel filter. After Bill gave our car a thorough going-over, our car is running great -- so great that it's like a different vehicle. I'm glad we found L&M. Bill is our kind of repairman. He tells you what you need, what you don't need, and what you should consider doing soon.

We used to take our car to dealerships, one in Manhattan, one in Greenwich, CT and one in Queens. Our understanding was that the dealerships had PROPER parts. That may be true. However, that doesn't mean they'll put them on YOUR car. Those parts might be reserved for the showroom cars.

Bill put good parts on our car -- the proper parts for our car! And he put them on correctly for no additional charge! (sarcasm intended) We'll trust our car to Bill and his sons at L&M from now on.

Just one of those places that you're surprised to find can survive in NYC--a fair, competent, *friendly* auto shop. Billy clearly knows his stuff, and ordered the needed part right in front of me so I could see how much it cost. You might pay more for labor than you would somewhere else, but the peace of mind is well worth it, especially after I went the Pep Boys route and got burned more than once. One look at his customers (and their rapport with Billy) when you drop your car off and you realize L&M is someplace worth coming back to. He's got my business.

I've been coming here for five years and always had quality service done to both my cars here. They are very fair and will give a very comprehensive assesment and will do the work and on time and do a fantastic job without you having to come back. Service was prompt, there were no surprises. My vehicle was ready when promised. The bill was itemized and very easy to follow. I would recommend without hesitation. Shock absorbers were replaced on my BMW and the car is handling superbly. Will continue to bring my vehicle there.
