Little Bit of England

I loved this place, have been looking forward to going back and just now finding out it is closed. What a heart breaker. I didn't mind the prices, because the quality was great. I loved to go and browse the crabtree and evelyn, and spring rain is impossible to find anywhere else.

I had visited this shop many, many times since moving to Mobile 5 years ago and always found the owner to be very kind and helpful, unlike the experience of the previous responder (?who didn't comment until well after the closing of this shop?). Maybe businesses don't do special orders when they are getting ready to liquidate their merchandise. Oh well, I can't speak for anyone elses singular experince. My experience was good. I was a regular customer and the owner was happy to order china for me on two occasions in 2005 without any problem. I found prices on items to be a little on the high side for some things (mostly on the food) but prices were not out of line with other walk-in shops in town and certainly not out of line for items shipped from England. I am not much of an internet shopper and prefer to support local businesses. When I saw this shop listed with a review, I had only intended to post that this shop had gone out of business but felt compelled to write more after seeing the first lukewarm review. I will miss the great selection of cards, the complimentary gift wrapping and crunchie candy bars! It was a unique store where I could always find a gift for nearly everyone in my list and I am sorry it closed.

I stopped in randomly on a rainy afternoon. It the kind of place you could drive by and never really notive because of where it is on Old Shell. Its a small shop that carries a wide variety of products. They have a really nice selection of tea sets, a large area devoted to Crabtree & Evelyn bath and beauty, and also a large selection of greeting cards. They carry some imported foodstuffs and have a freezer full of shepards pies and other British Isle favorites. They are a bit overpriced despite some things being imported. Oriental markets don't have that kind of markup. Perhaps its the neighborhood that allows them to charge more than its worth. When asked if I could special order something the woman who owns it told me no and didn't seem to care that much. Maybe she was too busy babysitting to bother helping a customer, since I was purchasing some things. I don't plan on going back. I can order Crabtree & Evelyn products online instead.
