Boxcar Books and Community Center, Inc.

Bloomington needs more businesses like Boxcar. I'm so impressed that just a small operation started by a few thoughtful citizens has come so far.

Boxcar is an excellent bookstore with a wide variety of books and zines that promote progressive values, social justice, community empowerment, and equality. But they can order whatever you want at no extra cost.

It's so much more than a bookstore, though. Boxcar is home to The Midwest Pages to Prisoners Project, that has sent over 10,000 books to prisoners in the last six years. Boxcar helps community organizations with free meeting space, holds arts and music events, poetry, book readings, etc. etc. It's a great place to find out what's happening around town, get involved with something, or organize something new.
