Would highly recommend for sugar gliders, Dr.Phenix explains everything. I had a glider that I had taken 4 times to Canobie Lake Vet within a month with an injured paw that had swollen and developed a lump, my poor lil guy was in so much pain. Canobie lake ran no tests, assumed his swelling was an infectionn and took one crappy x ray. Everytime I went to Canobie Lake Vet my concerns never got addressed, and I was sent away with a new antibiotic. Come to find out he never had an infection, but had developed cellulitious from his injury not being correctly treated (he had a bone that had moved). Canobie Lake Vet wanted to "drain the infection" and never addressed what the lump actually was or what caused it. Thankfully I went to Dr.Phenix, I was so scared after my dealings with Canobie Lake vet, I never thought my lil guy would get the proper care.
I did have an issue with the way a phone call was handled, but the situation was addressed right away! I highly recommend Dr.Phenix.if you have an issue with the office instead of giving a GREAT vet a bad review, communicate it to the vet. How will he know that certain areas people are unhappy. And sometimes great service you pay more, you get what you pay for.

As I sit here and read some of these reviews I can't help but think "have some of these people actuallyneen to this vet??".... I have been seeing this vet for several yrs they have treated my Coxkatiel (she was my late Mothers bird and would NEVER risk her health in ANY way)..... I've found the staff to be friendly and professional. My last visit I had called at 6 am and the vet actually came in early that day (just a couple hours later)... To make sure my pet was
seen ASAP.... As for cleanliness all I can say is that I was not evenallowed to place my birds carrier on the table untill they re-clean the table And this happens everytime I go in. In addition to all of this my bird was operated on last year and with little hope of a good outcome this vet saved her life..!!!!!!! I have NEVER had any issues with this practice or any of it's employees..!!!! As forthe pricing... If you purchase and supplies, food ect at a bet it's always more than the big pet stores. I'm sure that's because small vets can't purchase the truck loads these big stores do to get the low prices they have. (personally I'd feather pay a bit more and support a small business)..... And the bills I've received for visits, treatments, surgerys ect have been very reasonable..... I give this pet clinic 5 stars..... I have use 3 other area vets over the years and have always received better and faster service here..!!! These guys really care..!!!!
And of course I also Love SPAZ.... the office pet. He's great.!.!!!
Thank you Dr Pheniox and your staff for the wonderful care you've gives to my bird over the years......!!!!

We have seen Dr.Phenix only for routine vet visits and yearly shots. They our beloved Shep/Dan mix developed a growth on her head. We called on a Wednesday afternoon and the office was able to fit us in the next afternoon. After a thorough examination, Dr. Phenix new right away that it was a pretty serious infection. He scheduled her surgery for Monday morning. When we dropped Dolce off on Monday we assumed she would have the surgery and be home that evening, unfortunately that was not the case. She required a second surgery and three days in the hospital. During her stay we were encouraged to call and come into see her. Tracy was so helpful and calmed our fears. Dr. Phenix took time and patience to explain what was wrong with her. The staff clearly loves animals and their family's. As far as prices go, you get what you pay for. We received the best care possible for our Dolce and that is truly priceless. Dr. Phenix uses lasers to operate so there is less pain for the animal. He had all prescriptions on hand a available. He and his staff took amazing care of our very treasured family member. We looking forward to seeing him for many more years and will refer all of pet friends to him.

After reading some of the reviews on here, I decided that I really needed to write my own and explain the experience that I have had with Nashua Pet Care Clinic and Dr. Phenix. My fianc and I had to take my chameleon, Merlin, to their clinic because his eyes were bulging out. I have always thought of my pets as my family and was extremely upset because he was so sick. Dr. Phenix and his staff were completely helpful and very very caring. I cannot explain how comforting they were. Dr. Phenix explained to us that the bulging was being caused by a cyst. He did laser surgery twice on Merlin, gave him medication, gave us information on how to get his strength back, etc. Merlin recovered well after visiting with Dr.Phenix. I continued to see Dr.Phenix for checkups and if I ever had problem with anything. Every time that I was there I was treated like family. I was always greeted and after leaving I always felt that Merlin was in the best of care. Last week Merlin stopped eating and moving around. I took him into Dr. Phenix and faced the hard news that Merlin had to be put down. Dr. Phenix gave me two choices in that moment. He said that I could put Merlin down or I could give Merlin to him. He said that that way he would be taken care of and if he got better then he wouldn??t have any room for him, so he would have to be given back to us. Dr. Phenix told us that there was only about a 4%-5% chance that Merlin would make it but he would try his best. I don??t know many vets or people for that matter that would do something like this for someone. I just couldn??t believe it. After talking with my fianc we decided that we didn??t want to put Merlin through anything else with such a small chance to make it. Dr. Phenix did an autopsy afterwards and told us that Merlin had a bad heart, liver, and colon. There would have been nothing that he could have done. After everything that we went through there with Merlin, it just proved to me that Dr.Phenix and his team are amazing people. They truly care about you and your animals.
I have read a lot of reviews on Nashua Pet Care Clinic and was surprised by all of the complaints about how much money they charge. I have always thought of my animals as family as I mentioned before and have come to understand that animals are expensive. I found their prices to be reasonable for everything that they did and they did a lot for Merlin. When Merlin had his laser surgery I thought that it was going to be extremely expensive; it in fact turned out to be way cheaper. They even take CareCredit if you can??t pay out of pocket and will help you get the card right there in their office. They are a busy office and I have learned that that is because of the care they offer. Merlin was like my child to me and for me I would have spent my last penny on anything that would help him. So I guess what I??m trying to say here is that yes vet bills are expensive, just like any other doctor bill that you would pay, but I found here to be reasonable in my opinion and it to be the best place that would make sure Merlin was taken care of. I could never express or explain everything that we went through and how amazing they really were to us. I owe a lot to Dr. Phenix and his staff for the amazing care and comfort that they gave to Merlin and to us.

After reading so many reviews (both good and bad) I can agree with both sides. Nashua Pet Care Clinic is very expensive. I seem to pay more than actually quoted or end up buying products that I could have picked up at Petco. Also, there is absolutely no communication between the Dr. and the techs. There seems to be tension and confusion each time I go in there. Now, the good things about the clinic: Dr. Phenix has been very respectful and caring to my animals. When I had to put my dying dog down his staff was gentle, kind and humane. I currently take my new dog to Dr. Phenix and will continue to do so. I just won't get hooked into buying products that I can get cheaper somewhere else.

We have taken our black lab/border collie mix to Dr. Phenix's office for the past 4 years, and he has always been so wonderful with our dog. He's always had her welfare as his main priority! The staff is great too! Highly recommended!

I have several exotic pets and they have been to a variety of different veterinarians depending on the type of animal and issue. Dr. Phenix has always been very enthusiastic about seeing different types of animals, even ones that other vets won't go near. He treated our canary when his leg swelled up over his band and had to be surgically removed, he did a necropsy on a bird I had adopted that died unexpectedly and he did bloodwork on two of my birds and a wellness check on them and was very gentle and charming with them. He gave my conure a cotton swab to play with while he did her exam and she was delighted!

Dr. Phenix sees a lot of exotic pets, which is more expensive than seeing dogs and cats, and is always very competent. He receives high marks from me in his knowledge and his bedside manner with his animal patients and their humans. I don't mind paying a little extra for a vet who has experience with birds, lizards, large cats and a wide range of other creatures. His staff is always friendly and helpful.

My only complaint is communication between the vet and the staff and between various staff members seems broken down. When our canary had his leg worked on and needed to have his bandaged changed each day, we asked for a quote for boarding him with medical care because we'd made plans to go out of town. The receptionist gave us a daily rate and confirmed that it included bandage changes. When we got back the bill was more than double what she had quoted and the receptionist/tech who was there wouldn't lower it at all even when we explained what we were told and came right out and said that the other person should have confirmed the quote with the doctor.

It's not the final price that upset us (since they did quite a bit for my bird while he was in their care) but rather the total inaccuracy of the first quote and the refusal of the staff to look into it. Dr. Phenix was not there at that time to talk to, and since I wanted my bird to come home with us we paid.

I would still recommend Dr. Phenix to anyone with an exotic pet who needs help. He knows what he's talking about, he'll do anything and everything to help, and despite many of the other reviews here I don't find him overly expensive compared to other vets I've used in this area. It's Southern NH, it's expensive all around! Just get any quotes in writing or confirm them with the doctor before planning your budget around them! It's good advice with any service, anyway.

Wow... I cannot believe that people are so expectant of their vet. People actually had to wait? Have you been to the doctor's lately? I waited over 45 minutes to see my nurse practitioner. It happens. Some cases take more time than others and if you want a doctor to take time and answer questions then expect some delay in being seen. I especially love the declaw/rabbit "review". How dare the doctor be faced with moving his practice due to the sudden decision of his previous landlord and then the nerve, gasp, that he attend a conference required for relicensure so he can continue to practice veterinary medicine. Yup, just like other professionals vets have to reup for continued certification. Go figure.
We have been clients of Dr. Paul for nearly 2 decades. Over the course of that time we have had cats, dogs, rabbits, a guinea pig and even a pet duck eviscerated by a snapping turtle. Some care was routine from shots and well checks to more extensive care like surgery and cancer treatment.
I guess the internet serves not only as a place where one can retrieve information, but also to provide anonymity to those less than satisfied in their own lives to bash the world around them. The more editorials I read, the more I realize that there are many unhappy people out there with no greater wish than to infect the world with their hostility and negativity.
And, no, I am not related to nor do I work for Dr. Paul. I was simply found these "reviews" when looking up his new office address for my GPS. As for what I know about the circumstances, I guess I simply asked and was answered.

So, I just got back from Dr. Phenix's office today and decided to see what his reviews were like online. I was shocked to see the few negative remarks. Dr. Phenix has been my vet for about 20 years now. He's seen me through tough times with my beloved cat having thyroid problems (yet lived to the ripe old age of 16 thanks to Dr. Phenix's efforts) my sweetheart of a dog, Toby, who was taken by a horrible brain tumor but lived longer than expected thanks, again, to Dr. Phenix, and now my Jasper. It is true that he had to move his office suddenly but I was informed that the facility was apparently on a month to month rent and another business came in offering more money to the landlord (obviously a situation that could happen to anyone and not indicative of care). I have NEVER heard nor seen any of the atrocious things mentioned about dirty instruments in that one post (that is ridiculous!). He's not even overpriced like other people remarked on. I actually called around to other facilities one time to see if there was any validity to that believe and it turned out Dr. Phenix's prices were almost always lower than the other facilities (State line, Animal hospital of Nashua, etc). So, I would encourage anyone to meet Dr. Phenix and make their own decisions before they make the unfortunate mistake of writing him off due to some of these posts. Dr. Phenix will be my vet of choice as long as he practices. I mean, one can't deny the proof that he's been voted the best in the region so many years running- all of us can't be wrong. He got my vote last year and he'll get it again this year.

Update, 2/9/10

I posted some concerns about Dr. Phenix previously, and I now am retracting them. At the time, and in a communications vacuum of sorts, I was (legitimately, I thought) worried about some issues. An earlier poster insisted that surgical conditions in his practice were inappropriate (which I now consider to be total falsehoods) and there were some questions about the costs of services and feeling pressured to have treatments that might not be necessary.

Our cat was declawed and later developed a limp. We are now having the problem (which a former vet tech of Dr. Phenix's said is actually fairly common) taken care of. Dr. Phenix volunteered to perform the extra surgery for free (which is pretty far from the fee-centric attitude someone accused him of) but I don't feel right about that, so we may have to fight that out!

Our rabbit had a jaw abscess which is practically healed just with a long experimental course of penicillin shots, and no surgery may be needed. Nobody at our previous veterinary practices would have known the treatment existed. So I do appreciate that the Doctor does go to the professional conferences to keep up with all the kinds of animals he treats.

Any lingering doubts I might have had about Dr. Phenix's concerns for my pets was eradicated by his level of hurt and dismay at my previous post, and for that I am truly sorry. (I WOULD like to point out to the readers of that post, however, that I said I had "misgivings", NOT that I accused him of anything. I voiced my concerns and my story, and I hoped for more information. I also didn't accuse the Doctor of anything with regard to moving his practice or going to the conference -- as another poster suggested -- apart from the problems that those events caused regarding communications and the scheduling of the rabbit's surgery. I do understand that the relocation of his practice was an upsetting and massively inconvenient problem: it's just that the timing was so bad with regard to my sick animals.)

So to sum up, I now am convinced that the nasty critical posts prior to mine were malicious lies that I was unduly worried by. I believe that Dr. Phenix is a dedicated and honorable vet that I want to continue taking my pets to, ongoing. I believe that Dr. Phenix will go the extra mile to maintain the health of the pets he treats, and that if what he suggests is not something you can afford or feel is necessary, all you have to do is say "no thanks." I feel terrible that my concerns and questions caused him (or his fans) any unhappiness, and even though I was sincere in my worries at the time, I apologize. (This form won't let me edit my star rating, but I'd give at least four...)

Sherry B.

Sherry B.

I had to literally LOL when I read the last review where NPCC was compared to Angel in Boston. They CANNOT be compared at all. I knew someone who worked for Paul Phenix and as a vet tech she was better at diagnosing animals than he was. Also quite disturbing is the fact that he would do multiple surgeries without cleaning the surgical instruments in between. Not even so much as wiping the blood off first before using them again on another animal. If anyone thinks that is top-notch care they are SADLY mistaken.

I would not bring my animal to Dr Phenix in a life-threatening emergency. I would rather drive farther and go to a "cheaper" vet any day (or night) of the week.

* Just as a side note: I find it curious that two of the 5-star reviews were written on the exact same date and both authors have spelled Dr Phenix's name wrong (except midway through the second review his name is suddenly spelled correctly). Strange coincidence.

You get what you pay for.
If you want the best care - GO HERE!
I am very sad to hear so many complaints about the costs... If a "person" needed the best care you would take them to the doctor that will give them the best care possible.
I love this place - I have been bringing my pets here before they came to Nashua.
The care is top notch!
I had an exotic pet there overnight and they checked on it in the middle of the night
(I do not think your "regular" cheapo vet would give the same care).
They win awards because your family pet gets the best care possible. (try checking emergency animal care facilities prices before you complain... I have been to a "cheaper" vet - for emergency
(not during NPCC hours) and ended up coming to NPCC because the "open early vet" had no clue what to do... (You get top quality care at Nashua pet care clinic). He has always given us straight answers and asked what "we" want...
I feel this is the BEST care for your family pet that you can get (I compare to Angell hospital in Boston) try their rates...
GREAT PET CARE!!!

We brought our Pug there because she had a large lump growing on her side, they were wonderful with her, The vet that seen her used to be the vet at Benson's animal park if anyone remembers that place. They removed her lump, showed us what they removed explained everything, told us exactly how surgery went and what they did.
I did however find their prices a little much. and they double charged me on something but took care of it when I pointed it out.
I want to bring my rabbit it to get fixed it would of cost me over $400 just to get him fixed. It cost less to get my pug fixed at her old vet. makes you realize why so many people go without proper vet care for their pets or have them fixed.

So in a nutshell, wonderful care, tad bit pricey, I did have to wait for awhile each time I was there be it for my bill, Dr, question.

He put my cat under anesthesia and almost killed her. She had to be put to sleep afterwards. When she came home from being in his hospital, in awful condition, I felt a HUGE cancerous tumor in her belly and I'm not even a vet! The tumor ended up causing an enlarged kidney and she was unable to process the anesthesia which is why she got so sick. If he had done a proper exam on her before putting her under, he would've known this.
He also way overcharges people and is generally a greedy person who doesn't care about animals - only the money he can make from making them sick.

I have been bringing my Cat to this Nashua Pet Clinic for 3 years and I have no complaints about them. They are capable of handling and have handled everything my cat has ever needed! The Vet Dr Phoenix, and the staff is amazing at what they do. I once was there for visiting, when my Cat was in the hospital (very scary), and I couldn't believe how much the staff took care of the dogs and cats while I was there. I spent a lot of money for that treatment, but I have to say IT WAS WELL WORTH IT knowing (from seeing) the kind of care that my dog was getting . I feel like the Vet Dr phenix and staff truly Do care about the wellbeing of the pets that get seen there. My Cat spent a 2 days in this Pet Care Clinic being cared for by the Vet as well as the caring staff and I only had to pay about $500 for care. I received phone calls after my Cat went home just to see how she was doing and if I had any questions. My Cat is back to his normal self now and I have this Pet care Clinic to thank - she could've died if they didn't diagnose him! I wouldn't take any of my animals anywhere else! I have been to other facilities and I have heard from friends of mine some stories that shock me about the way they were treated elsewhere and I can't encourage them and enough to go here instead. They have convenient appointment times !

I feel the need to defend my vet (Dr. Phoenix) as he has been the most caring, wonderful and informative vet I have ever had. I have a dog , and Dr. Phoenix has always calmed my nerves telling me things are completely normal, how to fix them, and he is always right, Dr. Phoenix always has time and ALWAYS asks if you have questions. Vet offices are pretty much like pediatrician offices. People love their pets and are very sensitive, something to take into consideration of what they deal with on a daily basis.I only have good things to say about Nashua Pet Clinic. The Vet and the staff is extremely respectful, knowledgeable and thorough! I've called a few times with emergencies and they have always been able to get her in right away. Dr. Phoenix and Staff, are the BEST Pet Clinic in Nashua that's why they are voted the best of the best.

I do not agree with the previous review. Sure the doctor is good but he is always racing to see if he can fit in all his appointments. As to the staff being irreplaceable well they must be because he always has new staff whenever I have gone in. What ever happened to the cute little blond tech she was nice and seemed to be learning quickly? The staff is always running around themselves complete disorganization and the prices are through the roof. I know its a small business and all but great management and new business approaches would be great. I liked when they started doing all the online websites but whom ever came up with that must have left because they have not continued with it. This clinic needs clear management and the staff needs to be a little more professional.

I have had the honor, and yes I believe it is that. Of knowing the staff at Nashua Pet Care. I have not been a client for a long time but in the short time I have been a client there have witnessed excellance as far as I'm concerned. Yes some of the prices are high. But if people actually considered what it takes to run a business especially these days then it makes alot more sense. The staff there treat you and your pets like family. I have seen some things done by them that most places wouldn't even think to do. I am not trying to pick favorites but when I think of how they took care of us during our hard time I couldn't imagine saying anything bad about them. Take the time to look past pricing because they are more than willing to try and help you.

I took my exotic to this vet because they said they were knowledgeable about how to care for my sick little one. Not only did i feel rushed in the exam but was informed they would need to keep him for 2 nights to try and get fluids and food in his system, when i picked him up he did not seem any better and had to pay over $200 for my little one to die the next day. I don't think he did anything but charge me.

Not only do I agree with the other reviews on the expensive prices, but I was blown away at how my cat was treated. The first vet tech was really nice, but when the vet came in, he treated us like we were stupid and hit my cat! My cat had issues with his anal glands (he was in pain) and did not like being touched in that area. Every time my cat tried to get away, he got smacked on the head! When we got him home he was afraid for a full day and cowered when we reached towards him! I would not recommend this vet to anyone with a cat.

Highly Overpriced and Will Not release pet prescriptions without charging you over and above the extravagant exam fees. First time visit with Doctor was fine; 2nd time visit was a race for him to see if he could get out of the exam room in under 4 minutes and yet charge over $200. Somebody must be on an agressive retirement plan. When questioned on releasing a script and being charged for it, when I paid over $200.00 for an exam, they became not so friendly anymore. Cannot recommend as they are taking unfair advantage of caring pet owners.

When I first started going to Nashua Pet Care, I thought they were great. Friendly, yes, somewhat knowledgeable, good hours, but way too overpriced. I had to pay about $17.00 just to get my cats nails clipped. Also I recently had to pay over $700.00 for the Dr. to tell me nothing. I also had to transport my own cat to another vet as the Dr. would be away for the weekend at a seminar and I had to pay for this transfer. I don't understand why their costs are so high? They don't have a huge clinic, they are not open 24 hours, and they have a small staff. Again, I know they were voted best of the best for 2006 and 2007, but all in all they charge way too much. You could get just as good service at another vet, but with reasonable prices.

NPCC is a small full service hospital with a very caring staff. The hospital is equipped to handle all small animals ranging from cats and dogs to lizards and birds. The late evening hours make it easier to make appointments.
