What's worse than having to pay somebody to fix a hair cut you just got? Being told by a professional stylist that that things are so bad they cannot be fixed. The stylist at Salon Avalon gave me the worst hair cut I have ever had -- uneven, chunks of hair missing, thinned out so much I feel like I'm balding and very time consuming to work with. This is not the place to go for a quality cut.
I usually go to Cole's salon, or my hometown salon in MI where I am from, but I thought I'd try Salon Avalon. Bad idea! I wanted a clear, protein glaze for my hair. No color, just a clear coat to lock in moisture and shine (Redken Shades, clear glaze) The girl doing my hair acted like she knew what I wanted and began the process. She also said my ends need trimming etc, so okay I thought. I have thick hair that curls easily, and I do wear layers, but only when they are cut properly. The stylist 'colored' my hair. I asked to make sure/clear, "This will not leave roots correct?" She told me no visible roots, and it will wash out gradually and naturally. Also, the trim, she cut into my layers and made like steps, not blended, just chunks. So when I straightened my hair it does not lay flat, but layers of hair just bluntly cut. Anyways. She finished and blew dry my hair and I had to ask her to style it. I looked in the mirror, and my hair was a light brown/auburn. Normally, well 40 minutes before, my hair was dark black-brown. I went to a salon a few weeks later, when I notice that I now have 2 inch roots. The stylist at the other salon said she stripped my hair and colored it. The only way to fix it was to dye it again, or let it grow out. Are you kidding me? The whole time the stylist at Avalon was working on me she was talking about boys and going out etc. The visit cost over $100 and was such a mistake!
Okay, so i usually go to more upscale salons...but i heard that this one got good reviews, so I decided to check it out.
First of all, the woman that cut my hair was awful. She was rude...but worst of all, did not know what she was doing.
So at the end of my bad experience, i thought the hair was manageable..well a couple weeks later, i went to this great guy who had been cutting my dad's hair for 8 years and has many awards. He basically said that I had the worst haircut he's ever seen in his entire life. She cut random pieces of my hair and the color and placed horribly and there were random patches underneath my top layer.
DO NOT GO HERE.
I had my first haircut there last week and it's a very good cut. I also was offered "something to drink...water, pop, coffee or WINE" - well that was unexpected and fabulous. Had a wonderful hair cutter who talked and joked with me. Great service. Wonderful atmosphere. I had a good time, got a good haircut at a reasonable price and got to have a glass of wine to boot!! What more could you ask for? I would highly recommend this salon. They have many other services that I may not use, but you may want to try.
Salon Avalon in Burnsville is AWESOME! The first time that I was in there I was welcomed with a smile! The management and staff are always talking with the customers and making sure that you are teken care of! My entire family and I go there for our hair and other services and love it every time! I will tell everyone to go there!
I had my hair colored by them. The color did not take, it was recolored again, and did not take again. Only to find out it was bad product. While getting it colored for the third time I overheard another stylist saying she had messed up the previous customers hair with the wrong color, had to strip it and then redo it (that had to be healthy for the customers hair). The third time the color did not take again. I left a message for the manager to call me, and never received a call back. In the past color jobs that failed the manager would call me back, but it would be days later- which is very poor customer service. After having my hair recolored 3 times in 6 weeks- I now have very damaged and fried hair, and have had to spend a fortune on damage control products. My advice- is beware if you like to have healthy hair....very inexperienced and unprofessional.
I received a gift package from the city when I had my baby last year with some coupons from some participating businesses and one of them was 50% off any services at Salon Avalon. So a few months ago I decided to give them a try. I went to Chaska's one since it is the closest but it turned out to be sold out to some other salon, since i still had that coupon I went to Shakopee's which was so so and I still didn't use my coupon there and wasn't quite impressed so I went to Burnsville's one. And oh my, I wish I hadn't done it. I didn't have ant stylist in mind so I made an appointment with any available one at that particular time. My 5-year-old daughter needed her hair trimmed so she had an appointment too. When we arrived the place was empty, not a soul, except for two stylist ( the word stylist is quite an overstatement if you could see my hair now). I believe I clearly explained what I wanted or at least what I didn't want and mentioned I didn't want layers. She turned me away, cut my hair and styled for quite a long time and even after that I didn't like it but I thought I can restyle it myself .But at closer look at myself at home I realized I wouldn't be able to do anything with that. even if I manage to style so it doesn't look like I cut my hair myself the next day it looks like a hat or some sort of mushroom because she cut some very random layers and the hair underneath flips out. Even my husband who hates the idea of me having short hair said that I am better off cutting my hair short now because it looks like a hybrid of a helmet and a mullet . The only reason I didn't call the same day and complain because it was still long and not dramatic but now less then a month later it looks really horrible and don't know what to do with it except cut it short. And people ask me what happened to my hair and I have to mention this salon so I guess their marketing campaign backfired on them. Maybe if the place doesn't have clients they should not leave couple unprofessional people and hope that somebody will return. By the way, my daughter's hair was trimmed unevenly too. And even with 50% off I ended up paying 40 $.I guess with the same results I could have gone to Great Clips or something except I would have saved money or even cut my hair myself( not that I would recommend anyone to do it but really you can expect the same result).
The best thing about this place is their prices. You'd think you were going to spend a fortune, judging by how upscale they are. But my haircut was only $27!! And that included a beverage of my choice! Also, what I found refreshing was that there was no trace of uptight attitudes. My stylist was awesome, very knowledgeable, but even the other stylists who weren't busy at that particular moment took time to cheerfully say hi and make sure I was comfortable. They're relatively new and have improvements to make, but the bottom line is that they took good care of me and my experience was a very positive one. For as new as they are, they really seem to have the right formula in place.
I went to their new Burnsville location (I have been going to their Shakopee one for over a year now) and this place is huge! It's also the most beautiful salon I've ever been in. They have a third one in Chaska that I heard is just as beautiful and warm & welcoming.
The stylists were extremely friendly and very knowledgeable. Even offered me something to drink, which is something they've always done at Shakopee.
Their whole image and belief is that if they offer excellent friendly service at a fair price, respecting the customer and his/her wants and needs, they'll continue to grow their client base, both individually as stylists, and as a whole as Salon Avalon.
If you haven't tried them out, you definitely need to. They look very expensive, but prepare to be surprised, their prices are very fair and all the stylists seem very happy to be working there. It is a very happy environment to be in.
On top of all of this, they continue to offer some pretty cool specials like 2 for1 haircuts, 2 for 1 colors and some really cool package deals with massages, manicures and pedicures.
Salon Avalon, you won my business for life! All my friends are jealous of how good I look. But they won't be for long cuz they'll be coming your way soon to take advantage of your expertise like I have been doing!
I love you guys!!
