My first encounter with Blossom House was through an employee of mine, who's daughter had been going there. At that time my son was too young for their programs, but the next year when he was ready to go to preschool I was elated to get one of the open spots. My son has thrived for the last year and a half! We will finish out this school year and then he will be off to Kindergarten, but he has made lasting friendships and learned wonderful things that are a daily extension of the values we have at home. Each teacher has their own special qualities, and my son loves them all. I highly recommend this school!

I am a teacher the waldorf-inspired Blossom House Preschool. Just wanted to add my two cents. First of all, I am very happy to be a part of the Blossom House staff, which at times feels a like an extended family. My work there with the children of Blossom House is fulfilling in every sense. I was offered many positions at other schools upon my arrival in Portland. I chose Bloosom House - The children are so well cared for, their creativity and independence truly nurtured and revered. The classroom space is so lovely, complete with handmade toys and decorated in soothing colors. Also, the families at Blossom House are amazing!

I sent my daughter to this sweet school and look forward to sending my son. The school is wonderful if you want to surround your child in a beautiful place where the teachers strive to gently guide the children through the day. Though there may be some growing pains all of them are with the best intention. I know many families who have sent and are currently sending there children to Blossom House and everyone is enjoying there time there.

I withdrew my child as did a few other parents last fall. I found it to run by a woman who was very very unprofessional towards the parents & the children. The staff did not seem happy as well. She has no real warmth to share, nor any good teaching or management skills. I found out later how little experience she actually has! She would call me at all hours (a parent!) to ask my advice on her business! I did not need to know there were financial worries or that she has distaste for a child in her program. After that call (there were more than a few) I decided to withdraw. We were very displeased & would advise you to really think twice before joining such a pre school as Blossom House.

My son has been attending this school for over a year now. He started when he was 2 1/2. He has severe food allergies and blossom house has been very good at keeping unsafe foods away from him.

Aside from that, the activities that the children engage are great. A lot of art, music, finger-puppets and even regular outside play time when the weather permits. Of course all the toys are natural wood.

If you are interested in giving your child a great educational start, then I would highly recommend that you consider a Waldorf-inspired education at Blossom House Preschool.

Message from Blossom House Preschool

Blossom House Preschool offers a Waldorf-inspired program for children between the ages of 2 1/2 and 5 1/2. As a Waldorf-based program, we strive to surround the children with toys from nature, things of beauty and positive adult role models. Our educational goal is to develop the skills that last a lifetime, such as:

- Appreciation of a daily program

- Listening and language skills through story-telling and finger plays

- Problem-solving skills and enhanced imaginative ability through creative free play

- Learning good manners during meal times

- Social skills through awareness of fellow studentsβ?? feelings, abilities and uniqueness

- An appreciation of nature through awareness of the seasons and the celebration of festivals

- A lifelong love of learning and discovery

Blossom House is owned and directed by Cindy Smith. Cindy is a Certified Family Childcare Provider and has been studying Waldorf education since March 2001. In July 2004, she received a certificate from the Michael Institute in Waldorf Early Childhood Education.
