i loved this place  5 Star Rating - World class

some close friends brought me here. the owners (the sushi chef and the waitress) were really friendly with us, my friends were friends of theirs, and they were speaking Japanese. The food was delightful, prices were great. we went the day after their daughter won the 2008 skating championship, so everyone was very happy. i was told that frequently their daughter will be in there doing her homework. I just really love this place and i plan to go back there tomorrow.

Worst dining experience ever!  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

Across from Marie Callendar's is this little Japanese Sushi restaurant, Kiyosuzu, located at 921 S Baldwin Ave Ste B. When my girlfriend and I first went there a couple of months ago, we thought it was worth going back, but the second time we went it was a disaster! The hostess, waitress, chef, and manager/owner were all rude! Instead of asking how many when I first walked in, this middle aged Asian woman bluntly asked without even greeting me, "All of your people here???" After we placed our orders, the waitress didn't even check their inventory to make sure they had what I asked for, and served food in ridiculous sequence--i.e. the oysters in 1/2 shells, which was an appetizer, didn't come to our table until we finished everything else(I meant, the miso soup, salad, rolls, sashimi, and other what nots). The oysters were huge, too! We specifically asked if they were small ones, which is an all time Japanese specialty to die for because they tasted way better than the big ones, but the waitress told us those were the last four after serving it to us. They tasted badly, too, and had a lot of sand and broken shells in them! Smelled bad, too! We waived the waitress back, and asked for replacement or substitute, but she refused us. I told her that wasn't acceptable, and she said she will go check with the manager. After she returned, she said, "my manager said we'll have to charge you, but if you don't want to eat it, I'll take it away from you..." HELLO! Someone obviously didn't know what she was saying, LOL! I tried to reason with the manager/owner/chef, but they didn't even want to talk at all. So there. I guess this place has way too much business to worry about losing one or two customers, and if you ask me, it is lacking both of the two major ingredients that attract people to go to Japanese restaurants: service & quality! For sure, I will never go back, and neither will anyone I know of.
