If you haven't been to this restaurant in a while, I would highly recommend you try again. It's now been open for almost 4 years and that's how long my family and I have been going. It's great food, atmosphere and the staff is fun. My daughter had a great time for her birthday there. My personal favorite are the different taco dishes they have. Everything is so filling and tastes great. I wouldn't go to another place!! The prices are perfect and I think I might be willing to pay even more because of how good everything is. If you haven't been to On the Border, you're missing out!

This is a fairly new place to eat in the Cypress area it's always packed and for good reason, the food is great. You gotta try the ultimate loaded queso.

I recently visited On the Border for the first time a few days ago. It is part of a restaurant chain that is owned by the same company that owns Chili's (which I love), so I had high expectations. This particular location is fairly new and just opened on 11/24/06.

We went during lunch and it was pretty busy. They were able to seat us fairly quickly, but we did have to sit in the bar area where there was smoking rather than in the nonsmoking area that we originally requested.

When I glanced at the menu, the first thing that I noticed was the prices. The average price for items on the lunch menu was $7-9. In a city where good Mexican food at reasonable prices is plentiful, this is on the high end even for a dinner menu. In addition to "traditional" items such as burritos, fajitas, quesadillas, and chimichangas, they have several options available for you to create your own combo. I chose the "build your own burrito" option. Essentially, you can choose how you want your burrito prepared (fresh, grilled, or fried), what meat you want, what "fillings" you want (beans, sour cream, guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, etc.), a sauce, and then a "side" (black breans, side salad, etc.). Incidentally, you can only choose two "fillings" which I thought was a bit skimpy since the burrito itself is $7.99.

Service was incredibly slow. I realize that it was busy, but we were on a lunch break (I'm sure everyone else was, too), and typically restaurants make an effort to get you in and out in a timely manner during the lunch rush. Almost an hour elapsed before our food even arrived. My order was completely wrong. The fillings I had requested (sour cream and cheese) were not included, so essentially the burrito was very dry. The side salad I had requested was also missing. Other people at my table were missing items as well. Our drink orders were filled initially, but our glasses pretty much remained empty after that.

All of us were very disappointed and no one was impressed. For the price, it just isn't worth it, and I will not be returning any time soon.
