I was referred to Dr. Smith by the OGA office in the medical center. After undergoing some testing, she suggested a laporscopic hysterectomy. She appeared to be well skilled in this type of procedure. I checked in for the surgery and was expected to be there as an out patient. Once surgery began she determined that I had Stage 4 Endometriosis and that I would need a full abdominal hysterectomy. This type of procedure I was not comfortable with her doing, but she didn't give me the option, she just continued the procedure. She was not experienced enought to perform this difficult of an operation, I lost nearly half of my blood and she neglected to inform anyone of this and prescribed 2 sleeping pills. She left town immediately following the surgery and left the on-call physician in charge. I did not have enough blood to sustain that amount of medicine and ended up in ICU for 3 days. It was at that point that I began noticing urine leakage from my catheter. The staff just assumed it was from the surgery and that as soon as the catheter came out it would quit. I left the hospital wearing a pad. She said that if it wasn't better within a couple of weeks she would send me to a urologist. I didn't wait that long and within a couple of days I was diagnosed with a Vesico-Vaginal Fistula. This is a common occurance in under-developed countries, but not in the US. She put a hole the size of a silver dollar in my bladder during the hysterectomy. She did the surgery in July 2005 since then I have had 6 major surgeries to try and correct her butchery, but with no luck. In January of 2008 I will be having a surgery to remove my bladder. My world renowned Urologist finally said that it had been damaged beyond repair. We tried to sue for malpractice, but because of the tort reform in Texas about 4 years ago it is nearly impossible to sue for Malpractice in this state. I want everyone to know that while she may be a nice person she is an incompetent Doctor and Surgeon. DO NOT GO TO HER FOR ANY REASON!!!

When we first moved to Texas, I was searching for a new OB/GYN. Dr. Smith came highly recommended, and after my first appointment, I was not disappointed.

Her office is located off Fry Rd and Kingsland by the Christus St. Catherine Hospital. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the receptionist and had to fill out a few forms. I didn't have to sit in the waiting area for long before they called me back which was impressive. The nurse was very friendly and both she and the doctor started asking me questions about my daughter, summer vacation, etc. and I wondered how they knew so much about me when it was my first appointment, and I realized that they had taken the time to go through my paperwork and get to know me. I thought that was impressive! I didn't sit in the exam room for long before the doctor came in and she was friendly yet professional. I never felt rushed and she addressed all of my concerns and answered my questions. I would totally recommend her!

I am now pregnant, so I have visited the office several times over the past few months. Unfortunately, my experiences recently have not been as great as my first experience this summer was. I typically have to schedule my appointments in the afternoons when I get off of work. I often arrive to a packed waiting room and have waited up to two hours to see the doctor. By this time, she is usually in a hurry to get out and I never have much time to talk with her.

Last month, I scheduled a morning appointment thinking I could avoid the long waits. I had the second appointment slot of the day, but still arrived to a full waiting area. After waiting for almost an hour, we were told that she had a patient in labor and would likely have to leave quickly. At least they kept us informed. I was given the option of seeing Dr. Cole, the other doctor in the practice, which was fine, but then she got called out to do a delivery as well. I didn't see a doctor at all that day. Fortunately, this is not my first pregnancy and it has been uncomplicated thus far, but it is frustrating to wait for a long time and then never see your doctor or wait and then have a rushed appointment where test results, ultrasounds, etc. aren't even explained because there isn't time.

As of January 1st, Dr. Smith will only be delivering at Katy Memorial Hermann. My understanding is that there have been some problems with scheduling and such with Christus and my hope is that things will improve once they switch hospitals. I love the nurses there, and I like Dr. Smith, too, on the times when I have actually been able to see and talk with her.

To schedule an appointment, you do have to call a separate phone number. Also, they do not give reminder calls the day before.
