My brother attends here. And the staff is amazing! They are so patient with him and they let us know how it is. They dont fiddle around the box. If they need to tell us something They get to the point. And we love that. Dr Mclanahan is one of the best Neurosuregons in the country.
If we need him at CMC Charlotte main he is there no matter morning noon night 2 oclock in the morning hes there.

I began suffereing with a sciatic nerve compression in Sept (2011) that progressively grew worse. I tried physical therapy, steroid injections, back exercises...you name it....all without success. Carolina Nuerosurgical Assoc were recommended to me and I called for an appointment on Wed. and I had an appointment within a week. I met with Dr. Petty who scheduled me for a CT-Mylogram the very next day. The following day Dr. Petty met with me to review the films and then scheduled a "nerve block" which was done that very day. Within two days I had met with Dr. Petty and had two procedures scheduled and performed. Unfortunately, the nerve block gave very little relief so I was scheduled for surgery with Dr. Hunter Dyer. Dr. Dyer operated on me, performing a disectomy. At the time of my surgery I could hardly walk from the front door of the hospital to the reception desk. The day of my surgery I was up walking and walked for a full hour that same day. Within a week I was walking over three miles a day with absolutely no pain. A miracle, or so it seemed. Post operative pain was non-existant. I did not need so much as a tylenol for pain following surgery. I know I was fortunate, and not everyone could hope for the results I experienced but I cannot recommend this clinic, and the doctors and staff, highly enough. They are kind, professional, caring, and most of all, highly skilled. If you are one of their patients, you are in the best hands possible.

After Dr Ashers surgery, I'm messed up for life. I can't concentrate, have no short term memory, can't learn new information, etc. The surgery was 10 years ago! I wish they would have given me the needle instead. ChaChing ChaChing rating...down the toilet. Thanks for ruining my life pal

I was injured doing Tree Work,(long story short)I broke my neck(Fractured),also suffered several Facial Fractures. My Employer at the time, did not carry Insurance except for "General Liability",so I applied for Medicaid.Dr.Mark Smith is my treating physician.I do not have Insurance, but Medicaid will pick it up when I am approved.I am not sure why,but I was taken off of pain Medication roughly 5 months ago, because Dr. Smith said he couldn't monitor it ,and I have on several occasions complained of pain.I am a 39 year old male. Two weeks ago,he was gonna get me a ref feral to another pain clinic, but as of 2 weeks later,I've heard nothing.Everybody told me to be honest with my Doctor,so I was and that's when he decided he couldn't monitor me,because I ran out of my Meds. one weekend and he asked me how I made it to Monday.I told him that a friend gave me some of their medicine.Well,I guess that made me a "Drug Addict"in his eyes, after that no one would prescribe me anything for pain. Now,I have to take 4 to 6 Ibuprofen and my stomach burns alot(for the last 5 months or so).Be honest, but I guess never tell all, because now I really hurt alot and sleep very little due to pain.Hopefully this will change soon,or I will be requesting another Physician. This is getting bad now that it is cold.Non-related to this particular accident,I have had 2 back surgeries,so YES,I am in alot of pain!!!!

First off let me give a little detail as to my situation, I was in a car accident in 2006 and I fractured several vertabrees, I did not have insurance at the time, so I basically had to live with the pain. Now I will jump to 2010 and my reason for visiting Carolina Neurosurgery..the pain was getting worse in my back, and in everything I did. I gained 20 lbs due to not being able to exercise or do any strenuous activities.. about a week and a half ago I fell in the shower due to having weak legs, I went to the CMC-Pineville ER and they ran X-rays which showed my spine to be very crooked and leaning to the left, they referred me to Carolina Neurosurgery... on the day of my appt. I waited over an hour past my appt. time, and I did NOT get to see an actual doctor, instead I saw a PA, well this was fine, only she acted like she did not know ANYTHING about spine disorders and she scheduled me an MRI.. well I had my MRI this past Monday, and today Dr. Oberer called me to give me my results and said that nothing NEW was going on with my back (well duh! I knew that, I was coming to see him for a PRIOR condition), he went on to tell me there was nothing he could do, etc.. he left this on my voicemail, I haven't as so much even spoken to the actual doctor. However, I went back and forth all day with his secretary and nurses to try and see what could be done because there is OBVIOUSLY a problem with my spine and I am 26 years old and I can't even get out of bed some mornings.. they were very unhelpful, didn't act as if they cared, so basically I wasted my time and money to go to a doctor that wouldn't even give me pain medicine. It's pretty sad that people who stump there toe can get pain medicine but someone with a L2 fracture and a curvatory spine can't get anything! I would not recommend this facility to ANYONE!! They don't care about you, especially if you are uninsured! I guess I will have to go on living in pain for the rest of my life, or get a 2nd opinion which I def. plan to do, because my back pain is not going to ruin my life and that Doctor doesn't know what he is talking about! ALSO JUST GOT MY MRI RESULTS BACK FROM THE CMC-PINEVILLE RADIOLOGY DEPT. AND THEY GAVE ME A PRINT OUT OF MY RESULTS & DR. OBERER DID NOT EVEN GO OVER ANY OF THE STUFF ON THE RESULT PAPER WITH ME!! I HAD TO HAVE THE HOSPITAL GO OVER IT & HE THINKS I AM GOING TO PAY HIM WHEN HE JUST LEFT ME A VOICEMAIL AND NEVER RETURNED MY CALL TO EXPLAIN THE STUFF ON THE RESULTS THAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND (BECAUSE I'M NOT A DOCTOR, THAT'S WHY I WENT TO HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE!!) I AM NOW HAVING TO PAY MORE MONEY TO GO TO OTHER PHYSICIANS WHO ARE ACTUALLY ABLE TO READ MY RESULTS CORRECTLY & SEEMS THERE WAS A LOT MORE FOUND ON MY MRI THAN DR. OBERER CARED TO MENTION TO ME! HE TREATED ME LIKE A NOTHING JUST BECAUSE I WAS UNINSURED! DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE A NUMBER AND NOT A PATIENT!

Very bad experience overall. Got referred to these guys from an ER doctor. Took 2-3 weeks for appointment. Another 2 weeks to schedule MRI. After MRI, no returned calls till 3 weeks. Switched Dr asap since my hubby was in tremendous pain and in need of treatment.

Dr. Bernard has been my doctor for 3+ years and we have always been respectful towards each other and his fellow doctors and nurses are wonderful, but his secretary is a vile, inconsiderate person who is to lazy to do her job.

From the beginning I've had my patience tested numerous times with having to deal with her shrill voice telling me that I am the one who has to do this or that when it is obvious that it is part of her job description to do.

Even the nurses at my pain specialist regret having to talk to her because they just end up getting the run around.

The ladies at the front desk aren't that much more congenial or caring.

Considering the amount of money they charge. you would think they could be considerate to their customers/patients since the bottom line is that we chose them from the myriad of other neurosurgeons in Charlotte.

We have been patients of Dr. McLanahan for about 18 months now. My son was bron with IVH and had hydrocephalus. Dr. McLanahan put in a VP shunt and has done 2 revisions surgeries. He is an amazing doctor. He is intelligent and kind. His PA is wonderful also. the receptionist staff leaves something to be desired but I am more concerned with the skills of the surgeon. Although waiting for an apoointment can be a pain, if there is something wrong, they will do their best to get you in ASAP.

Don't be in a hurry to see anyone in this office. Appointments are like two months out even for existing patients. My neurosurgeon worked at the Concord office when I met him, but has since transfer to this Charlotte location and I swear that was a mistake. This office is terrible! The staff is not friendly or helpfully. They do not return phones. Ms. Nelson doesn't return phone calls in regards to appointments that the dr. told her to make, if you need to move locations as to where your appointment was original made that will never happen b/c you can't get a call back.In regards to getting a call with your test results be prepared to wait about 2 weeks after the test was done and then they will call you after hours. And I mean after hours I had them call me at 9:00 pm one evening. The wait to get into the back to see your dr is LONG!! I had an appointment at 330 didn't go back until 415 and did not finally get out of there until 5 and that was only b/c I had to wait on Ms. Nelson to make appointments that took longer than actually speaking with the dr.
