.

While the outside is not much to look at and the interior is the same as it was way back when we were kids - there are some big differences in the Short Stop today. New Owners took over a few years ago and decided to bring something to the lunch table - unique, HUGE sandwiches. And at the cook's whim - lunch specials like Homemade Chicken & Noodles, Meatloaf and a variety of (sometimes ...odd) Latin recipe ideas. While it is more expensive to purchase a large, grilled sandwich there than a combo meal at Wendy's - you certainly DON'T need a bag of chips or dessert; the large sandwiches feed a small army alone. Feeling very brave? Try a HUGE Dagwood. It's fresh too.

Service is sometimes slow (okay - most of the time). The counter help gets a little out of hand sometimes, but nothing is premade except for big meal specials. You can buy premade subs, but they are nothing compared to the daily sandwich specials. You can call ahead to have your food ready, but if you have time, some of the fun is watching the lunch crowd and the employees. (if you can handle the sometimes...."colorful" jabs back and forth)

The meat and cheese used in the food is from the deli case. The prices there are better than anywhere else in the area if you don't mind making the extra stop when grocery shopping.

The woman that makes the food always says if you hate your sandwich to let her know too. Never had one like that yet - a few different kinds I am not sure I would eat again, but nothing I have refused to eat.
