I am not sure about World Class, but definatly the best in Raleigh. My kids have certain tastes for pizza and for some reason Papa Johns was always their favorite...not mine. For years the Friday night tradition had always been pizza. Now when Friday night arrives, we all quite happily agree to Stromboli??s. They provide bigger, better, and less expensive pies than going to the Brick Oven, Papa Johns, Dominos, etc. My wife and I always share the pasta special and have never been disappointed. Greens in salads and spinach in pasta are always fresh. The restaurant is open (not the romantic type, but more the family farmhouse style) and always clean. The kitchen is in full view (old world style) with nothing to hide. Finally, the staff is always very friendly.
I have ordered food previously from this restaurant and had it delivered. Then this time after placing my order they call me back after waiting for 30 minutes to tell me I have to increase my order by double to have this delivered. I live 5 miles from this restaurant. I was already on the fence due to inconsistent quality with the food but this is the last straw for me. Have the courtesy and professionalism of knowing your delivery range when someone orders not waiting until the time the meal should be delivered. You won't see my business again.
I dine out about five nights a week. I've tried close to every pizzeria and Italian place in Raleigh. If you want really good homemade Italian food, this is your place. If your looking for quiet ambiance, I'm not sure this is your place, because I was there before a Carolina Hurricanes game and the place was packed and rocking! Not really the atmosphere I would associate with a place that makes this quality of food. I thought it was going to be like a wing place with pizza and spaghetti but this restaurant has some amazing food. The homemade lasagna was better than my moms and the pizza was unbelievably good!!! You've got my business!!
Food is great, good variety, it appears they have made the effort to listen to the customers needs and wants. The staff is great, I take my 5 year old about twice a month there, he loves to watch them make pizza and they always put on a show for him. Very friendly and the food is wonderful!
I have eaten at the Edwards Mill location three times in the past six weeks. Once, tried the pizza, once a pasta dish, and finally a new menu item not typical of such an establishment..grilled salmon. All were above average by any standards. The Ravioli Sorrento is my pasta recommendation. There may be more refined service and atmosphere in more expensive restaurants but the food would probably still lack in quality and certainly in portion size. What some may not recognize is that there is also good wine and bottled beer available as well as a very visible plasma T.V. always tuned to whatever sporting event deemed most important at the time. All in all one can have a good experience no matter what the occasion.
Went to Strombolis tonight and I have to admit, it was absolutely delicious. Had the Mahi Mahi and it was grilled perfectly and served on a bed of fresh green beans, and was honestly one of the best pieces of fish I have had in a long time, who knew? I guess it pays off to be a smaller restaurant, as it looked like they were redoing some menu items and adding some seafood and different things for the summer, I highly recommend trying it.
Ok. Tried their takeout. Took 1 hour 45 minutes to get and I can throw a baseball through their front window. Called twice and was told both times that they had left the store with my food. Lied.
Went last night and ate in. Ordered what turned out to be three less than mediocre meals. Disappointed in all three dishes. Two of us had one glass of wine each and bill was $70.00.
Not anywhere worth it. Won't eat there again.
I'm from Brooklyn NY, I have to admit the Pizza and subs are really good, but you cant compare to a real NY slice. But it sure is close. My only complaint is the last time I orderd a delivery, the pasta salad tasted like its been sitting by a heat source all day and wasn't fresh at all. I hope it isn't a custom thing, because I'm thinking of calling tonight.
Had never tried this restaurant's food and was looking forward to some good pasta, chicken, alfredo sauce, and bread. And I brought home an order of hot wings for lunch tomorrow. I've never had such bland boring food. The pasta was a fine texture overall but some strands were pasty and some had dark spots. If I didn't know I ordered alfredo sauce I would not have thought that's what I was eating. More like buttered pasta. There was a little white sauce keeping the pasta from sticking which was another clue it was supposed to be alfredo. The 2-3 pieces of garlic bread I was told came with the meal was actually a single thick chewy clump of dough. I decided to eat the wings instead. They were hard and dried out. I could see the hard strands of meat. It was as if they had been cooked and then cooked again to heat them up. I'm glad I was told the cheese cake was frozen and opted not to get that! The young man that took my order was polite and personable and in this diner's opinion, that is where the positive experience ended.
Hands down!!! These guys know what their doing when it comes to real Italian food and NY style pizza. They use this wood buring oven that creates a pizza unlike any other in Raleigh and the pasta dishes are out of this world. I recommend the chicken Calabrese with alfredo sauce and the dessert calzone to finish!!! I'm glad your here Stromboli's. Thanks!!!
I've been looking for a good Italian restaurant in raleigh for nearly 2 years and I finally found a winner. This is the best little restaurant secret in raleigh. It may not win any awards for the decor but the food can compete with any Italian restaurant in raleigh. I have eaten here 4 times in 2 weeks and I'm addicted to their bread, and the lasagna!! Please don't make me too fat though : -)!!!
Pros: Amazing Food
This place can honestly be called a great place to eat. Very casual and very good. I have eaten here 4 times and each time I get something different and everything I've tried has been great. I recommend the Arancini and the Calamari for an appetizer and make sure to try the dessert calzone. It's the best chocolate dessert I've ever had!!!
Pros: Awesome Food
This place has a great concept! Quick, casual, great food, and reasonable prices. The bottom line here is that Raleigh has been needing a place like this for a very long time. The food was way beyond my expectation for not being fine dining. I had an appetizer called "arancini" that was literally out of this world. Fresh mozzarella that was stuffed into a rissotto ball, breaded and fried. I haven't seen something like this since I was in Italy. My entree was something called the pasta Milano that had sausage and roasted witha spicy marinara sauce, very good too, then the owner came out to our table & suggested we try his dessert calzone that he had learned to make when he was in Italy so we decied to go for it even, though wewere cmpletely full but are we glad we did. Probably the best ending to a dinner we've ever had. The service was very casual because you order at the counter when you walk in and then the staff takes the food to your table. The only bad part about this is that we had to order twice. Once when we first walked in to order, and then again when we ordered dessert and another round of wine. Though we won't make that mistake again. If you go to this place, make sure you get the dessert calzone. You won't regret it!!!
Pros: Quick, casual, great food, not too expensive
I'm from Chapel Hill but was visiting friends in Raleigh and they took me to Stromboli's. It was really good. They had a bunch of reasonably priced wines that were absolutely fantastic. Service was excellent and food also really good. I had the lasagna, and you could tell it was made from scratch. Perfect for good food at reasonable prices without all the hassle of the fine dining guys. Wish they had one in Chapel Hill... Will be back.
Pros: Food, Wine, Service
I have made Strombolis a frequent starting place for a date or a night out with friends. Reason being...the atmosphere is casual, the price eqautes the food and service, and they serve beer and wine. They have a large plasma t.v. generally with sports on and a waitstaff. The servers are very personable and seem to be having fun. The food is awesome and I really can't think of anything being less than perfect. Pizzas are my favorite though. It is very close to real New York style and that is tough to come by in the area. I highly recommend giving them a try if you like Italian and want to have a great dining experience.
Pros: Value, Service
Have been eating food from here for almost a year now. Have not found any better pastas for take out since i've been living in nc. Used to be complicated to order delivery but I was told they no longer use a call center and since then I have had no problems ordering or recieving my food. For the money and service, I give them 5 stars because you can recieve quality real Italian for a decent price to your door. Also nice to get to know the staff, being a small company its always the same guys and you can tell they love what they do. Recommend for any in the area who want better pizza than the chain guys or fresh pasta delivered to your door. Try the Baked ziti or chicken calabrese, my two favorite pastas.
Pros: pasta, pizzas, price
Cons: none so far
I can't believe I found a pizzeria in Raleigh that uses wood to cook their pizza's. I was practically lured in by the smell of the wood buring oven and couldn't believe how nice this place was inside. I was expecting it to be some pizza pick up place and had no idea they had full service dining. The server I had (Katie) was super nice and had knowledge of the menu like she was the chef. The food and service were both incredible. You have a customer for life Strombolis. Thanks!!!
Pros: 5 Star quality food for 3 star prices
My friends and I often order the Stroboliochio pizza from here. It has olive oil, roasted garlic, sun-dried tomatoes, and goat cheese. Always consistently good!! The service has been excellent for dinner.
A person had the same issues with the spring forest location. You go through a call center and talk to several people before you place the order. I have enjoyed the food when we've gone to the restaurant or done take out (not 5 star dining, but good quick Italian food), but will probably not go back due to the awful service I have received. I have called and taken 10-15 minutes to place an order with a baby and toddler that is a lot of time! Then the order was wrong when they arrived. I called and they blamed me. I asked for a cheese pizza for my son and got some funky pizza with lots of toppings. They did finally bring me out the correct pizza after then arguing with me about paying for it. I didn't think I should pay for a small cheese pizza or their delivery charge if my son had to wait another 35 minutes to eat. Meanwhile I gave him some snacks because he was starving and he didn't even eat much of the pizza that night. He did like it the next day for lunch though.
Then I tried again tonight and sat on hold for 10 minutes. Three people came to the phone asking me to hold. The last one (I assume a manager) told me that I was supposed to go to the call center, but since someone picked up she would get someone there to take my order immediately. I honestly sat on hold another 2.5 minutes before I finally hung up. I decided to call another nearby restaurant who's food is outstanding, but doesn't deliver. I would rather make my husband run out and get the food than pay a restaurant for poor service. I would not recommend the restaurant for delivery AT ALL!
Pros: Food is good and dining there was good with 2 young children.
Cons: Service for delivery is awful!!!
