I was turned down for my request to join the group by the moderator because i declined to fill out the overly intrusive questions posed. Really, some of the stuff was none of people's business, and it didn't offer any information about what it would be used for.

All i wanted to do was give some extra things away. I'm a busy person, and don't have time to fill out essays on why i want to join a sharing group, either. Whatever happened to not looking a gift horse in the mouth??

http://www.freecycle.org is an excellent idea, an environmentalist network of local freecycle groups that use online forums to post offers of items they no longer need but don't want to send to the landfill as well as posts requesting items that others may want to get rid off. This aspect helps avoid consumption of new materials, when hand me downs might be re-purposed instead. Everything must be free, no money exchange or other forms of trade. Members can meet up in a public place to pick up/drop off items, or can opt to meet at each other's home, or in some groups, there are regular group meetings in public places like city parks, although this has been deterred here in Russellville.

Unfortunately, the Russellville chapter of this organization is suffering from a severe management problem as indicated by a recent poll (that I didn't create... so I know I'm not the only person who has been disappointed by this group) trying to get feedback from members and former members who have been disgruntled, disrespected, or dismissed by a singlehanded micromanager preventing local growth and fair access to this important effort. You can find that at: http://www.insiderpages.com/b/15240000793?review_edited=1

I encourage anyone with interests in Freecycle to sign up for it and try your luck, but don't hesitate to contact district management to offer feedback if you become as disappointed as many of us have been.

Thankfully, there is a very similar alternative in "River Valley Sharecycle", also working from a yahoo egroup at http://www.groups/yahoo.com/group/rivervalleysharecycle/

This group is managed with a lot less drama and disrespect.
