I have had to use their emergency services three times as of this date. Last time was the most urgent ?? I took my dog in when he couldn't breathe and they treated him immediately. His diagnosis was life threatening thus I was very sad. They took their time explaining to me his condition and let me come see him (though I feel they made an exception for me) in his oxygen cage. I was told he would have to stay several days and though it was very expensive (my only complaint) I felt it was the best place for him to be. They called the next morning to update me on his condition and told me he was responding much better than they predicted. He could come home that evening! I was thrilled. He is now on week 2 of his recovery at home and they have called me several times to check on him. I did have to take him in last night to have his former catheter site looked at as he was licking it raw. They treated it and was out if there quickly with no fee. I think that type of service is rare today. I highly recommend this clinic to anyone that wants the best for their pet in an emergency.

The staff and doctors at this hospital are some of the most loyal and heartfelt people that I've had the pleasure of not only going to and working along side of. They have always treated my dog with so much love that its an actually treat to take her to the vet. Its understandable that some people can have bad experiences at every place, but I can truthfully say that sometimes it is a misunderstanding and sometimes it can be the situation. For the gentleman that was upset with his pet with a possible urinary tract infection- I personally worked along this case with Dr. Kelver and she was extremely upset that you were unsatisfied with the visit- explaining that an exam was completed and offered to bring your pet in that day or at a week recheck that you declined. I know her personally and she cares so much for the animals and actually comes from poor background so I very much doubt you were a "car payment". Also you said yourself she talked to you in the room- can we go to the doctors office and not be charged an appointment fee? I hope that you do find a vet that is more to your liking, but you will not find one that more compassionate as those at grand island small animal hospital!

I brought in my dog who was diagnosed with parvo, my dog had all his shots and he still got this horrible virus. After noticing how weak he got, I took him here with the hope of having not only the best care but with hope that they would save his life. I was able to gather the money needed to have him hospitalized and treat him with ivs. The doctor said it was a 50/50 chance but I prayed he would make it. I did not want to leave him overnight because he was like a son to me, but if it meant saving his life, I went ahead and paid around 1,600 dollars. I brought him in on a Saturday, and called several times a day to check on his status. On Sunday, I called five times and the receptionist kept telling me to call back, which I did, and then she took my number and hours passed by and no call back. Finally in the evening, the doctor said he was still not out of the woods and he is still at 50/50. Monday came and I get a call stating he passed away, worst news of my life. My baby died without me being there. I went to pick up his body and he was filthy, drool all over, and his snout turned sideways as if he was not being attended. I wish they would've been more open with his chances of living because he was really at a 20% survival. I would've just put him to sleep instead of having him suffer all those days. My other dog got it too, however, they gave me tamiflu and I kept hydrating her at home with pedialite, and what do you know??? She survived without being hospitalized. Parvo is a horrible thing, if detected early, tamiflu will not cure it but it will stop the parvo from reaching more damage to your loved one. Vets however don't want to prescribe it because they will lose a lot of money if they gave you a script that will cost you anywhere from 25-100 bucks depending where you go or how much you need. It comes in liquid form so you don't have to spend lots of money to buy the pills which only come in a 10 pack and needs to be measured by a compound pharmacy, costing you an average of 100 dollars. I hope this information may help save your dog as I unfortunately lost mine. I wish these vets here told me about tamiflu, but instead only gave me one option when I had more. I found out about tamiflu through online searching trying to save my other dog and I did. My biggest regret was not being there for my baby when he passed away. A piece of me died when he passed away. Please make sure your dogs are up to date on shots and whenever they are taken out, you should check for parvo more frequent.

We had such a great experience here that I felt like I needed to write a review 3 months later.

My cat started acting odd/sick one night and started bleeding and howling. Feeling like it was an emergency, I spent a quick half an hour online looking for a place with good reviews that would take emergencies. The receptionist told us to bring her in which we did around midnight and they were compassionate, understanding and helpful. Having two cats in the past that passed away from cancer, I was SO worried but it turned out to be a stomach problem. If I hadn't taken her, she would've dehydrated quickly. They put her on IV and kept her that night and the next night for observation being that I had already paid the overnight fee after midnight when we took her in. They gave her a bath before we picked her up and brought her home.

Her treatment, overnight stay, x-rays, etc all came to about $800 (I open a Care Credit account which was a simple, quick process). That would've been about what I would've payed (if not more) somewhere else so I don't know what the people giving bad reviews expect to pay for emergency treatment of an animal (or person even!). I'm definetly NOT rich, I work in retail and am paying it off myself. I still remember calling our "emergency" animal hospital in Niagara Falls years ago when my cat had cancer and being told "we're not taking new patients" so I definetly appreciate a place that is willing to even SEE/treat an animal.

We didn't deal much with day staff but the night staff was absolutely great! I'm so thankful to these people for their care and their work. I'll recommend them to anyone in the future!

I find it disturbing how sadly misinformed many of these reviews are. There are people here stating that they are studying to be Veterinarians but who lack a basic understanding of the business, laws, regulations, procedures of practice and grammar I might add. Yes, When your pet has an emergency it's expensive, quite a bit more expensive than a regular office visit. This should not surprise anyone. Is it not more expensive for you to go to the ER as opposed to your Physician? The cost of treating an animal that is critically ill is enormous to the clinic itself, and although these are caring professionals who cherish animal life, they are also running a business that cannot provide any services to anyone if they cannot pay their overhead and afford to keep their doors open. This is not charity. They are professionals. As for the ignorant comment from the supposed Vet student. They are required to describe to you what euthanasia is like, what may occur and what you might see if you are present. It is part of informed consent. You must be informed, to give consent. Please, do your research and be mature before you decide that you should publicly bash dedicated people who are doing a wonderful service.

I have been to several different Vets in the area and I have always been very happy with the care Grand Island provides. No, they aren't the cheapest in town, but I have great confidence that they will get it right and that the animals will be well taken care of. They have solved issues others vets couldn't figure out. Dr. Harper is a wonderful physician and the staff has always been very compassionate when I have been there. Not sure about the negativity but I have always treated my pets as family and so have they.

I too am perplexed by the negative reviews. Around the time we moved into the area our dog suffered from allergies, breathing problems and chronic infections (among other things). Dr. Harper and his staff have help solve all of these problems and are actively participating in preventive care for our dog. We have avoided many unnecessary procedures and excessive costs thanks to GISAH. Our dog actually looks forward to visiting when we go!

They may not be the cheapest in town, but they are the best.

Oh, and we did have several emergencies! It was reasonable for an emergency vet visit. However, the care our dog received was top notch!

I am perplexed by the bad reviews as I had a very good experience with them. I called them concerning my 2 year old beagle. He had eaten something he shouldn't and we were concerned about a blockage. My vet (for 9 years!!) gave him drugs to calm him down so I could muzzle him as he is terrified of strangers. When the amount did not work they gave me more. I couldn't muzzle him so they would not see him. They said I could wait till the next business day to bring him in. Unfortunately that was Friday....they were closed on Thursday ....and this was Wednesday!!! I called GISAH and they could not have been more helpful. Brought him right in. They took him in the back and two minutes later he was muzzled and ready to be examined. After the exam, all was explained and while they did give me a price, it was not out of line from what my other vet discussed. Yes, I did have to pay up front but when I picked up my dog the next day they actually credited me back money.
As far as the staff is concerned, I cannot say anything but praises. Dr. Harper was as caring and gentle as I could hope for. The vet techs were wonderful and caring. They were quite concerned about my dog's heart rate/respirations due to all the drugs that we gave him and took extra care to make sure he was not in distress. When I picked him up, he was not muzzled and he was licking them. That was sure a happy sight for me. I would recommend them with all my heart and by the way, they are our new vets. We also had a great experience with my older dog with them.

I recently had to take my cat to GIAH after he was attacked by a dog. It was the worst service I have ever had in my life. I live maybe 20 min away I had no other choice but to take him there because it was late at night. They had me filling out paperwork while my cat was sitting on the counter basically dying. I sat and waited for the vet at least 45 min, mind you they do not treat your animal untill you sign the sheet. When she finally did come in the room I was very upset and crying and there was no emotion in her at all. And I don't want to hear they've been doing it for years there used to it BS I know a vet who has been in the business for over 50 years and when my friend went to put her cat to sleep he cried. When they finally came in with the estimate it was 2 grand. I couldn't believe it and that wasn't even including surgery it was just to keep him for 2 days. Mind you that you had to pay in full before they started any treatment sorry but i dont have 3grand just sitting in my bank account. So once I made the decision that I had to put him to sleep because I am not as wealthty as others, they made it a point to describe to me what was going to happen when they gave him the shot very graphicaly and then asked me if I wanted to be there. Like I wasn't upset already. I wish this incident didn't happen late at night because I could have maybe saved his life if I would have been able to take him to another vet but because I took him to GIAH I signed his death sentence. I am actually going to school to be a vet and what I seen there was disgusting and apauling. They have no compassion and I would rather sit and watch my animal take its last breath before I ever went back to GIAH. They get a 0 rating from me because that's what they deserve. And for the people who are giving them good ratings get serious they might have been good so far but wait untill you have a emergency and then tell me if you still like them and agree with your decesion.

I went to Grand Island Small Animal Hospital and it was the worst visit ever!!! My dog broke her leg and I went there for an emergency visit when my vet was closed. They kept her all weekend and charged me for it too!! Almost 1200 dollars!!!!!!!! They placed a cast too high and 10 days later it almost cut her leg off. When I picker her up they made me sign a release to let her leave (little did I know what this really meant) and when I went to MY vet she smelled to they took a look at her leg with the cast off and she had a deep cut. SO I asked for the money from GIAH (337 dollars I paid at my vet) but he denied. I went to court and the release slip was a piece of paper stating that the doctor did not believe she should be released from the hospital. OMG they trick you. Be careful what you sign there!!!!!!! They dont care about you or your pet. Dr Graff did the work and Dr Harper (the owner) stood by her shotty work. If you care at all about your dog/cat then DONT GO THERE!

I've use GIAH for almost a decade and refuse to use anyone else after a string of very bad experiences. They are great for emergencies, the prices on medicine and service is on par with other vets and I have never had a single problem. When my puppy split his canine tooth up the middle and had to have it surgically removed, they gave me a very detailed estimate, told me what items were optional AND gave me the name of another clinic (which wanted to charge half the price of the surgery estimate just to see my puppy). The care and service my beloved animals receive from GIAH is always what I expect for them: only the best.

My boyfriend and I live a half an hour away from the hospital, but at 10:30 at night, there is no place else to go. We have had a cat for 2 years now, and she suddenly started acting differently. We thought she might be in heat, but it was never like this before. Then we started noticing that she was bleeding. We paniced and called the hospital for some advice. The urged us to come in just in case the situation was serious, and they even gave us the name of another location that was closer. I looked up the hospital, but they were much more expensive. We showed up, and right away they took our cat in, and checked her out. Kimberly, was her name, explained to us the situation, and even referred us to another hospital that was cheaper to get her spayed at. We were shocked when she told us of another place to take our business, where we could afford it. If a place is willing to go out of their way to help the customer, i think the place is well worth it. They were very nice, and knowledgeable. The prices were a little high, but i have been to much worse places, and got charged for practically nothing. They told us their fees up front and referred two other places. I would recommend this place highly.

I think they totally suck and all they care about is money
they have no compassion at all for an animal unless you have money. I would never ever recommend this place to any one. Some one should really stop and make this place stop ripping off people and putting their pet to death unless u have money and their uncaring staff. Oh
that's right they are only doing their jobs. They are heartless and I hate this place. I wouldn't even give them 1 star they deserve 0. Please visit zootoo, com to read all the terrible reviews on the Grand Island small animal

they have no compassion at all for an animal unless you have money.

This place can actually help you and your pets if you have the money, but if you don't you might as well just go somewhere else. This place has absolutely no compassion for animals and will only help you if you can pay the ridiculously large amount of money for the vet bill.

I have been taking all 3 of my cats to this hospital for the past 9 years. Have spent hundreds of dollars on a cat in the past there. I was involved in a bad automobile accident 5 years ago and am disabled now, which is apparent. I live off of Social Security Disability and do the best I can for the two cats I have now.
If you are not rich, I would not recommend this hospital to anyone. I did not want charity from them, I asked to put 380 dollars down and make monthly payments to pay off the rest. I have been going there for 9 years but do you think they care??? The almighty dollar is going to come first no matter what!!! I had to go out front and PAY the 204 dollars before they would even let me see my cat to say goodbye!!! I was willing to pay however much money to save my cat but 900 dollars up front, no exceptions, no excuses!!!
They expect you to take out a credit card and pay 26% interest but you can only get the card if you have a job!
I will never in all of my life go back to that place.

I had to take my cat to Grand Island Animal Hospital as he was having problems breathing. It turned out that he had a tumor and at 17 I could not stand to see him suffering. The vet was so caring and concerned to help me make the decision I felt comfortable with. I have now switched all of my cats to Grand Island because I really trust their judgement and appreciate their concern!!

I have been doing business with the GI Small Animal Hospital since 1974 and I would not hesitate to recommend the facilities to friends and family. The building is neat, clean, and the people very professional.
