When it comes to gastro-pubs in Philly, there is only one choice if you're in Old City (the heart of Philadelphia tourist attractions.) National Mechanics is a new Philadelphia bar and restaurant that just opened up in Old City.
National Mechanics serves up great food and has one of the best beer lists in the area, and even better prices. And I mean seriously great prices. If you have been to Old City restaurants, you know about the high cost for a meal and a drink, but here you can get great local micro-brews for 2 and 3 bucks and a belly full of food for under 10.
National Mechanics is a pretty family friendly affair until later in the evening (after 8ish) and the kitchen's open till 1, so for anyone looking to go out for dinner and drinks needs to hit this Philly bar up. It's new, (I just discovered it myself) and is bound to blow up soon, so get there now to say you were there first. I know I seem a little over-excited about the spot, but finding a place like this in a neighborhood like this is a great thing, and I figured I'd share.
