It's the best sushi that I've found in Texas
I moved back to Texas from NYC - I travel quite a bit for work so I've gotten to eat out on the lovely expense account. I love sushi and if you're going to do it right, it's not going to be cheap. I would compare Tomo to Nobu if you've been in NYC, Miami or Vegas but it's on Austin prices... It's really my favorite restaurant in Austin especially since we live north (it's in the same center as Cool River). Tomo is small and the owners are always there talking with the customers...
The Blackened Miso Cod is amazing... Another favorite is the Screaming Orgasm (horrible name, yes, i know...). I also get the Escolar in the Ponzu Sauce (it's almost like a ceviche style).
All in all, this is a great place to take either sushi novices because they have a lot of cooked items (steamed mussels are awesome) but also pure enough for folks who stay true to form with basic sushi/sashimi. It really is a hidden gem.

By far, the best Sushi in Austin!
I've been to tons of Sushi restaurants across the country, but nothing beats Tomo. My wife and I go here almost every week, and never tire of it. Look on the "specials board" for some really unique treats like Live Lobster 3 ways, Whole Aji, or some of the best Toro you'll ever have. Everything is flown in fresh from Hawaii or Asia, and everything is absolutely delicious.
Try to get a seat at the bar for a really fun experience, and definitely ask your sushi chef for recommendations.

The best sushi in Austin
I've probably been here more than 10 times for lunch and dinner and the service and food is great. The chefs up at the bar are nice and friendly and seem to really enjoy what they're doing. The wait staff is excellent and they always make sure you're doing alright. I've tried other sushi restaurants in Austin and I have to say Tomo is the best. They have a very good variety of in-house selections like the Volcano and other dishes with their funky names are heavenly. It's a small place and I have a feeling if this restaurant was downtown you would have to make reservations.
Pros: Food, service, staff, location and cleanliness.
Cons: The place is small but I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes at dinner time if full.

S_x on the Beach is FABULOUS!
I always have a fun time at this place. The sushi is fresh and tasty. I haven't tried anything there that I did not like. This place is definitely not for families, but great for a dinner with fun friends. Make sure you try "S_x on the Beach" and "Ex-girlfriend"
Pros: ambience, food
Cons: service, space

The Service is Terrible, the Sushi is Average
The decor is lovely ( think fancy 4th St. lounge) and I had heard good things so I was excited to try out this place. As soon as we sat down we were asked for any drink orders - we all asked for water and some time to decide on any more items. Not only did the water not arrive 10 min later, but the waitress acted like she was doing us a favor by bringing it at all. I'm not gonna lie - the sushi was not that bad - however, I've had cheaper sushi that was just as good. It's not expensive but it's definitely not cheap either. Overall, if you want average sushi in a nice atmosphere with terrible service - this is the place !

worst service ever!
More of a bar than a sushi restaurant. Two year anniversary dinner, took 10 minutes after being seated to see a waiter, and it took just over an hour to get a rainbow roll. He forgot half the order, and only admitted it later. The chefs drank no fewer than 5 shots each during our visit and had their own beers as well. Their foul mouth were ceratinly heard at our table, not just the poor people at the bar. I am glad we did not take the kids. I have no intention of ever returning.
Pros: spicy roll
Cons: did not get full order, had to listen to drunk chefs cuss loudly
