As other people have pointed out, probably 100% of the 5-star reviews come from staff members who are sitting around with nothing to do but promote themselves on review sites. I was going to write a review on citysearch, but it looks like their profile was taken down.
Anyway, I called in for a massage, foot bath, & facial with some gift certificates I had received. I asked how long I should plan for it - they said oh, shouldn't take longer than 1 1/2 hours. I got there right on time, and was greeted by an unprofessional looking young girl. She had me sit at a table in the living room (it's an old house the spa is in) and offered me coffee or tea about 3 times. I kept politely declining. Then a young guy, her brother, offered me tea. Then her mother, a co-owner, came in and offered me coffee AGAIN. I finally caved in just to give them something to do.
45 minutes after my appointment was set to start, I had finally gotten in the massage room. This was completely unacceptable to me, but luckily I had nothing planned the rest of the day. The room was decorated nicely enough, and the owner herself was going to massage me as apparently all the other staff were on vacation (which is why her kids were filling in).
The woman did a good job giving a massage, except she was WAY too chatty. When I go to a spa and pay $120 for a package, I want a calming experience. I don't want to make small chat while you're rubbing me down with oils. She hardly ever stayed silent, continuously saying "oh I hope this feels good, I just want you to have a relaxing time" and then going into stories about how her and her husband (the chiropractor) met and started the business.
So, after a long massage that was pleasant but not exactly calming, I went to another room where their "fizzy bath" is conair machines with some store-bought salt thrown in. They really need to throw a couple magazines in there, but instead the hubby came in and started chatting it up. It was probably 2 1/2 hours past my appointment time by now. Finally it was time for the facial, where I was delivered to the hubby. He was a little rude, did an average job but just seemed extremely condescending and kept promoting the spa saying "oh I'm sure you'll tell all your friends what a great day you had."
4 hours after my appointment (remind you, I was told it would only be 1 1/2 hours), I was ready to pay and get out. Apparently my $20 tip wasn't sufficient with the way the Mr. acted towards me, but the experience wasn't up to my expectations.
By the way, it would do the spa good to take into consideration the three negative (*real*) reviews, and to stop reviewing the place themselves. You can tell all the reviews are fake as they all sound the same, ALL give them 5 stars, etc. Stay away if you want a relaxing, real spa experience.
