I've been in to Smedly's on a few occasions, but my most recent visit will probably be my last. It is super cute and quirky. I love that it is locally owned and offers sugar cane Coca-cola's in glass bottles. I really want to love this place! However, they need to work on their customer relations. When I was in last, I tried to ask the owner a few questions about the menu, to which she responded (paraphrasing), "read the chalkboard, if its not there then we can't do it". Owners: you need to engage with your customers. Talk with them, explain your menu. Even if you not willing to do a special request or change your menu, you need to make people feel as if you're offering them a choice. Smedly's is not open that often, and your prices are that great, so your service needs to be.

Smedley's is a local cafe that has a great environment for a cup of coffee and a nice book. The owners are always around and keep the atmosphere local and fun with interesting menu options and fun board games in the back room!

Smedly's is a cute little cafe. Their cheesecakes are quite delicious and it's humbling to know they are lovingly homemade, and their 'drinking chocolate' is delightful because it tastes frickin awesome. Their menu changes pretty frequently which keeps ingredients fresh and also keeps patrons surprised. If you want a cup o'joe in the wee morning hours, Smedly's is open at 7 a.m. The owners live upstairs in the renovated apt. that their son, and architecture student, designed. Baltimore has a proud european immigrant heritage, like any other eastern coastal city. Visit Smedly's late at night when you MUST have a piece of cheesecake, but don't plan on leaving until you have drawn or left a message on the giant blackboard wall. Smedly's is open late, till 10:00 or later.

Smedly's is a cute little Their cheescakes are quite delicious and it's humbling to know they are lovingly homemade, and their 'drinking chocolate' is delightful because no one else in Baltimore has it. Their menu changes pretty frequently which also keeps patrons surprised every time you walk into the door. But if you want a cup o'joe in the wee morning hours - and Baltimore is not the type of city to wait until 8 to wake up - you better put your good shoes on for the walk to the cafes closest to the water, because Smedly's isn't opening until 10 a.m., when most coffee drinkers will have already downed their daily dose of caffeine, if they haven't already had two by then. The owners are transplants from suburban Frederick and haven't quite 'owned' the cafe, as evidenced by their sporadic hours of operation. If only they knew that Fells Point is waiting for a cafe that's not so close to the water to be open during normal cafe hours, they probably wouldn't have to have second jobs. Beware of their Eurocentric specials which don't quite fit into Baltimore's proud American heritage. Visit Smedly's late at night when you MUST have a piece of cheescake, but don't plan on hanging out during your sugar coma - they close much earlier than the Daily Grind!
