.

I would NOT recommend this building.

Bad things
Parking is difficult
Electricity goes out constantly in the summer (2-4 times a week)(old wiring)
Faucet leaks (bad plumbing)
Washroom pipes make loud noises when used for hot water
Building/fixtures are VERY OLD,
Elevators is old and slow, you open the door by yourself
Though walls are painted its very thick & flakey
Kitchen is small and you will smell your neighbours cooking
Owners are not very emphathetic, and are focused on making money off of you.

Good things
Nice neighbourhood
Close to EL
Nice outer appearance
Friendly tenants
Laundry room works well
Sympathetic repair staff

The actual building staff/repair man are helpful and do the best to appease tenants as they complain how old the building is (but you need to tell the owners to actually spend money to fix the electrical wiring and plumbing) The owners aren't willing to fix up this old building and just want to keep making money off it for as long as they can, with no concern of actually offering a reasonable quality apartment to the public. They are not completely honest in their dealings, though their staff try their best to help us.

When I first I called about the apartment they quoted me a price but when I actually went in to see the apartment the increased the priced suddenly by almost $100. For the price they charge, I would suggest looking at other buildings in oak park. Like on circle ave by the harlem station if you need to be near the EL.

Then as I was looking I asked if I could install AC and if the electrical wiring could support it and they said YES, but the truth is NO. My electricity went out constantly (almost daily) and there were building outages also, because the wiring is old. My new AC and computer were constantly forced to shut down which caused a lot of damage to it. It is very HOT in the building without the AC. Unless you don't expect to use AC, or only one small appliance at a time, then be careful. The best time to use something would be at night when everyone is sleeping.

The apartment was given me to me an unclean state, and they expect you to "clean" it again when you move in, but when you move out they expect you to have things cleaned professionally so they don't have to have it cleaned at all for the next tenant.

I tried to call or write to the owners about these issues but there was no significant response. I must say that the property staff tried to be helpful in fixing the old building, and being sympathetic to the outages. But the owners have not been very responsive and I would not recommend renting from them at all. Take your business elsewhere so that they will fix up the building to a reasonable, habitable state.

They will try to get every dollar out of you when you move in, and when you move out no matter how unfairly they've acted on their end. BEAWARE you may end up losing money and its not worth the agony of dealing with the owners.
