.

Vito's makes some of the best homemade Italian ice cream around. Gelato (this is what they call ice cream in Italy) is richer and creamier than American ice cream, yet it contains less fat. It also usually contains less air. Unfortunately, American versions of gelato are usually pretty much just regular ice cream (you can taste the difference), and so you have to go to Italy to get really good tasting gelato. However, I'm extremely pleased to have discovered that Vito's gelato tastes as good as the best I've tasted in Italy. In fact, I think they import many of their ingredients and machinery. After traveling (and eating) our way through Italy a couple years ago, we were so excited when we came home and found Vito's!

We can't stay away from this place, and will regularly eat a couple scoops on a hot day, or even take a pint home for later. Prices are comparable to Baskin Robbins, but Vito's ice cream tastes so much better! To top it off (no pun intended), many of their fruit flavors are lactose-free, so lactose-intolerant people can actually enjoy this rich, creamy dessert... yay! The proprieters are very friendly and greet us by name whenever we come in. I like to think that's how it would be in Italy.

Vito's is located in a little center at the corner of Alicia and Paseo de Valencia in Laguna Hills, in between the 7-11 and the service station.
