Truly a disappointing experience.

I had a "deep tissue" massage which was far from up to par with other massages.

The masseuse did the massage of my legs without ever touching my skin. He did the entire leg part of my deep tissue massage through the sheet and other covering. Never have I had such an experience.

Most of the time, at least 60% was spent solely on my upper back. Never even touched my arms or hands.

I will never to back to this place for a massage.

I recently went to Agora Spa for a massage and a pedicure. While some spas inform clients that the hourlong massage appointment includes 10 minutes to undress/dress, Agora does not do that, so I expected an hourlong massage. My therapist first brought me into the treatment room at 3:35 (for a 3:30 appointment), and when she left after the massage, the wall clock said 4:22. It also seemed that, even with a late start, she wasn't ready for me: she only turned down the lights and turned on music after I was on the table, and it would have felt much more professional if she had fully prepped the room before my arrival. Her massage work felt cursory: she would identify knots, sometimes comment on them, but then spend very little time on them. She used far too much oil: after she left the room, I towelled off vigorously, but still left feeling very greasy. She was thoughtful in some ways: I asked for a heating pad for my feet (others spas have these, which is terrific as my feet get cold quickly), and though Agora doesn't supply them, she wrapped a towel around each foot, in a much-appreciated effort to make me comfortable. I was pleased that no outside noise came into the treatment room, but the clock's ticking was distracting and not at all relaxing: it wouldn't be hard for them to use silent, digital clocks. I left feeling frustrated and resentful, and I will not return here for a massage.

My pedicure technician was friendly and efficient, and her work seemed fine, but unimpressive. I was surprised to notice that she used only a sand file on my calluses (which I could do at home) -- no carrot-peeler gizmo or motorized file, even in this upscale business in a nice suburb. This seems to be the Agora standard: the pedicurist next to my station did the same thing with her client. In any pedicure, I really look forward to the foot/calf massage, and this one was disappointingly weak. While my polish dried, my technician left for the day, explaining that she was going to esthetician's school, which she has almost completed. My first thought was that she's still in training to do pedicures, but a friend reminded me today that it's more likely she's training to do facials, waxings, etc.

The three staff members I met at Agora seemed well-intended, and the receptionist and pedicure tech especially made a warm effort to look after me, which was wonderful. But I found the quality of the work there to be disappointing enough that I do not expect to return.

I have been going to Agora since they opened. Not a huge selection of spas/services in Evanston (I used to reside in Lincoln Park). All services are great; their facials/microderm services are 30% less than downtown, and service is great. If you live in Evanston it's great not to have to drive downtown. Most recently, I booked the massage, and WOW -- I am now a regular weekly client and great prices. Do give it a shot, I hope they stay in the area.

I had a mani/pedi at this one month old day spa, and it's awesome. A beautiful, new, classy joint, with the sweetest most fabulous staff. Ibolya did my nails and i've never received such a great mani or pedi in the gold coast, lincoln park, anywhere but here.
TRY THEM OUT...MAKE AN APPT.
