Visited Shwab's for the first time. Food was very good. We had the burgers. They tasted like they were homemade. My husband got chips and I got grilled vegies. Loved the vegies. Will get the kabobs next time. We didn't realize it was a kids night though - Tuesday. Not crowded. Will probably return in the near future.

Visited Shwab's for the first time. We both had the burgers which were very delicious. Tasted like homemade. Excellent flavor. Definitely not the fastfood taste. My husband had the chips and I had the grilled Vegies with mine.... the vegies were wonderful. Think I will try the kabobs next time. Atmosphere was okay. We went on a Tuesday night not knowing it was kids night. Not very crowded though. Will probably return in the near future.

I was passing through Jacksonville and stopped in and was amazed that this concept hasn't caught on around the country . The steak I had was as good as any signature steak house I have ever eaten in . The service was with a smile and very friendly. I was there at the lunch hour and the placed filled up quickly. The music and videos added a good twist to my dining experience and I assure you the next time I pass through Jacksonville I will dine there again .Good luck and I hope to see you again very soon

When I heard about Shwab's i didn't hear too many good things and not alot of bad thing about them neither, but then again I never judge a restaurant on statics. I judge it by my own experience. When I pulled up I was expecting to see an old school diner set-up which would have been disappointing because these are not the 50's, the 60's, nor the 70's. Instead I was very surprised to see that it was a new aged diner with a little old school twist to it. That was great because it attracts all ages of people, young kids and adults.

The next thing I noticed was all the t.v but one were playing music videos ranging from Allmond Brothers Band to CCR to even new aged hip-hop / "rap". There is a "video" jukebox which for $1 you get one song and $2 you get 3 songs that is great. The one t.v that was not playing videos was on a Sports channel.

The have wonderful specials going on weekly. If I am not mistaken this is how they are : Tuesday- Mad Science comes in and does experiments of the kids, Wednesday- Free ice cream with your meal, Thursday is a Spelling Bee for kids 6-12 with gift certificates for the winners, Friday - All you can eat shrimp / fish, Saturday - STEAK night, and Sunday - 2 for 1 bottle beers AND all you can eat wings. I think when I was in there on Friday the owner mentioned to me about a Super Bowl party, all you you can drink beers ($25) and all you can eat wings ($13.99). I can't wait come join the fun. You will love it

Went with my 2 children and sat at the soda bar. The owner didn't even say hello or greet us. She was a bit on the cold side and didn't even offer an explanation or suggestions of good eats - we seemed more like an inconvenience to her than a welcomed customer. This is in itself will cause me not to return.

I love this place. The burgers are great. The wings are also good I be-live that they have a diff rent taste to em then other restaurants in the area(Best taste when mix mild sauce with bbq). The prices of items on the menu are very reasonable especially for the area of the establishment.

The owners are very nice people and the employees are young and pleasant. The food is not terribly consistent, though when it's on, it's really good and well seasoned.

We saw this place open and heard all kinds of bad things, they being new we waited and I tell you it was worth the wait the food is not your normal diner food, but it is very good. There was a group of eight of us and we shared each others food from burgers to steaks to nacho's and wings they all tasted great. The service was good. The atmosphere is a bit different but very neat, you can select music from the early 1950's to present. If you have heard bad things I would recommend you go try it for yourself.very happy with Shwab'sJKS

I went to lunch today at Shwab's, after seeing an ad in Money Pages. I was excited, because I thought it was going to be an old-fashioned soda fountain--like from the 50's. When I walked in, I was greeted by a friendly young lady, and she seated me immediately. She gave me a menu, but did not tell me anything about it--which I would have appreciated. She took my drink order and within a minute or so it was in front of me.

I was immediately disappointed that my hopes of it being a 50's type place were not fulfilled. LOUD pop music was playing (from today), and the employees were not dressed in 50's attire (instead they were wearing short shorts, which my husband would have really disliked--we frown on immodesty.) 50's music and attire would have made the atmosphere much more enjoyable. I didn't even know you could request music, because my server never told me. And she waited until I was almost finished with my food before she asked me how it was.

The food, however, was quite delicious. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and had grilled mushrooms and provolone cheese put on it. I also had strawberry ice cream for dessert, which tasted like homemade.

It's a cute concept, although I would recommend that if they want 50's decor, they should have 50's music and attire as well. I may or may not return. I haven't decided.

I went for a late lunch with my friend , and as we walked in we were cheerfully greeted by a number of suspender-wearing employees. a young hostess asked how many and if we would like a booth or table. we said two and booth and she showed us to one. Inside there is a counter with many icecream and candies along with the soda fountain. The hostess gave us our menus and silverware and told us that our server would be with us shortly.

There were several large plasma tv's around the restaurant playing music videos that can be requested from the unique video juke box. You can often find the entire staff singing and dancing along with the songs everyone knows, such as: the moccarana, cottineye joe, etc. In a few minutes our waitress informed us of her name and took our drink orders. she brought back the mr.pibb and sweet tea, in under five min. She then told us the specials and soup of the day and took our orders. We ordered the build-a-burger ( I got bacon and cheddar), and my friend got the garden grammy ( vegetables made to your liking, she got the fried and breaded). The waitress took up our menus and went to put in our orders. While we waited for our food, we paid for a song at the video juke box. When we came back it was only about 10 minutes for our food to come. The song we had requested started playing about two songs later, while we were eating. It was perfect! The food was delicious and came with homeade chips that were crunchy and divine.

It just so happened to be my friends birthday, so i asked them if they could sing. They gladly agreed and within a few minutes, about 7 employees came to our table. They gave us a complimentary banana split that looked so good I almost couldn't wait to help my friend dig in. They sang a clever, and funny melody about banana's and her birthday, with rythmic movements to go along with it. We enjoyed the split and paid our bill. As we left, the hostess's wished us a great rest of the day as they held open the door for us.

All in all, the new concept of a grill and soda fountain is a great place to eat, and what's better is, there is no place around like it.
i would deffinately recommend it.

We went for an early dinner at Shwab's. It looked interesting on the exterior with the Art Deco style lettering and "Soda Fountain and Grill" on the sign.

The restaurant was empty except for us, one diner who was finished, and employees. It was very open inside with a counter for seating as well as numerous tables and booths. There is a video jukebox which plays throughout the space and is very loud.

No one greeted us at the door. When a previously unseen young man stood up from the counter, he said to sit anywhere. We sat at a table and waited. There were no menus on the table except a dessert menu.

A few minutes later, a young lady came over to ask if we were ready to order. I asked if they had menus. She came back with the menus and the silverware. Although I was sitting with 3 small children, she did not mention that there was a children's menu on one of the flaps. The children's menu consists of steak bites, chicken little bites, grilled cheese and a laguna lunch (fruit, yogurt, cheese, and bread or crackers). All children's meals include drink, meal, and dessert treat. Price varies from $4.25-$5.50.

After filling our drink order, she took our order. We were still the only people in the restaurant.

We saw employees out front smoking, walking back and forth to the bathroom, and one running out to holler to a person leaving in a vehicle. Then there was a woman at the 'soda fountain' who was eating standing there and doing prep work.

After we were there for 10 minutes, another couple came in and was greeted and seated. Within 10 minutes, they had their drinks and their orders. Still no sign of ours. As soon as their meal came out, you could hear noise on the grill in the kitchen despite the loud music. The server came over to let us know that our meals would be up soon. I asked what was taking so long and she said "they get lazy when we are slow". It was at least 5 minutes later before our meals came out.

We had ordered 2 of the steak bites, a grilled cheese and a grilled cheese, tomato and bacon. The steak bites were bite-size pieces of steak that was then grilled They looked good and the grilled cheese looked good too. However, the grilled cheese, tomato and bacon had no tomato. The server was walking to the other side of the restaurant by this time so I called her back. She took my plate back to the kitchen and returned about 4 minutes later with the same plate and sandwich but now the halves had a tomato slice and a toothpick. I asked if they were grilled and she said, "I think so". They were not. I sent it back, very frustrated by now, and said I didn't wish to have it at all. The children were eating so we did not leave right away.

About 5 minutes later, the server walked back over to tell me they were taking that meal off of the check and to ask if I wanted a complimentary grilled cheese to go. I asked for the manager and the woman at the counter came over. She said, "I don't know what else you want me to do. After the second time you complained, we took it off your check." I was astounded that she had been standing at the counter the entire time and didn't come to the table to try to do some service recovery. I asked what had taken so long for our order to begin with. She said that all of their food is fresh. I mentioned that the steak bites would not take long to cook as they were small. She said, well they have to cut the sirloin as I don't buy it like that. And I checked your ticket time and it was only 22 minutes. I said that was fine and I needed the check.

The server came back over and I asked if there was a way to contact the owner. She paused and said that the manager is also the owner.

At that point, I gathered up my children, paid my check at the counter, with the manager, and left.

Interesting concept. However the menu is not anything to be expected from a Soda Fountain and Grill.

The food looked good but the service took away my appetite.

Message from HMS Shwab's

Once upon a time, every town had an old fashioned diner, where unbelievably delectable aromas from the grill greeted you as you walked through the door, glass cases filled with candies tempted the kids, and the ice cream soda fountain‚??s twirl-top seats were filled with youth and the young at heart.

Our town can step back in time at Shwabs Grill & Soda Fountain.
