Are you serious, SEARS! I took my daughter away from Sears and transferred her to Transitions! I was told by a neighbor that I wouldn't get ripped off at Transitions and she was right. My daughter told me she learned so much the first day of class. I love the way drive scheduling works. It's a fair systems that allows you to drive weekly which helped my daughter. Its not like Sears where they don't drive the state required hours or they pack 4 - 5 students in the car and they each drive 30 minutes or less. My daughter was YELLED at by a SEARS instructor so you better think twice before you spend over $400 to only findout you were robbed. I'd also like to know what parent thought they had to teach their child to drive according to these reviews. It sounds like a parent who doesn't take any responsibility in my opinion. You should be allowing your child to 'PRACTICE' so they can complete the mandatory 20 hours. The same hours that Sears told me we wouldn't have to complete! In others words they LIED! To any parent or child that's thinking about attending this driving school you will not be let down.

I'm a '08 graduate of Transitions Driving Academy, and I can honestly say I don't regret my choice with this school one bit. Not sure what went wrong in some of these reviews, but if you were willing to put in the time and effort outside of class to learn how to drive a little bit (which should be common sense), the instructors at Transitions are willing to meet you halfway. It's not their fault if you were lazy and relied on them to do all the work; life doesn't work that way- so in a sense, they were preparing you for the real world :) Mr. & Mrs. Claiborne are a cute little couple that do everything on their end to make sure you have the essential information and training to set you out on the road safely. I was terrrified of driving when I first began, but after my 2nd drivetime, I was so comfortable and confident. Sure, drive times may be more flexible and frequent with Sears or Automatic, but in the real world, you don't get to choose your times to go into work or start your day- your BOSS chooses that for you... so get used to it! If you're looking for an affordable, entertaining, educational, and life-changing experience when looking for a driving school- rest assured, you have found the one :)

P.S. For those that are going to attend, there is an awesome scholarship giveaway every once in a while that I was honored to receive in 2009. Definitely a contest to look forward to!

You might as well go to Sears. They offer plenty of driving times unlike Transition's Driving Academy. Transition's instructors aren't very helpful with in car instruction and rely on the parent to do most of the work even though we are very busy. I found Sears to be much more helpful and thorough with in car instruction. If you want to end up doing all of the work yourself then go to Transition, because they take your money to just watch and nag with no solutions.

My little brother enrolled summer of 2011 as a secondary option to Sears Driving School. My family's scheduling is what pushed us to try Transitions, otherwise it would have been Sears. The driving times are limited and one can ONLY schedule on Fridays at 3pm. Parents have to avail themselves to get their children scheduled on this day. Sears has far more spots and much more flexible times. I was a previous customer.

MAIN PROBLEM: It seems as if the driving instructor wants the parent to do all the work and just check the student off. It's a driving school. If someone isn't there to learn how to drive why are you taking people's money under that service description? He had multiple complaints stating the incapability of my brother to drive. He's driven over 75 hours between my father, mother and myself, all clean hours. We have a state log for the minimum required hours as well. No close calls, no danger, proper driving techniques, everything. Their job is to teach. Text instruction was decent. We tested my brother on driving rules. In-car instruction was severely lacking. Transitions just slacked terribly there. I'm not saying students aren't supposed to show up with a little practice background, but a driving school is supposed to educate in proper technique and execution, not just create a list for the parent to go through. Anyway, my father got fed up with the poor driving instruction and pulled my brother out. He's now at Sears doing the in-car lessons with no problem. He'll be getting his license by next month.
Terrible customer service. Sears may cost a little more, but you get a lot more for it. If Transitions is a community driving school then it should offer quality service. Take Sears and be completely satisfied. I did when I went to driving school and I had no single issue. Sears in-class and in-car instruction was exceptional, driving times were available and very productive for all students.

When you have a business you can't always please everyone, there is always someone thats not gonna be happy with your decision. But its a business decison, oh well...

I am Mr. Claiborne from Transitions Driving Academy. In the next few days I will be responding to the negative comments from Sandra C., Linda R., g.g., as well as any others. I would like for everyone who puts value in these comments to know the FULL story and then ask yourself what actions would you have preferred. Please understand that InsiderPages does not verify or qualify any comments positive or negative or if they were placed by a competitor. It is my opinion that the best way to deal with this issue is to respond to these items honestly. Please feel free to contact me at the driving school if you have any additional questions.

First I wanted to say Transitions Driving Academy was a great school for getting your permit as a adult. The teachers were great, and very patient with you. They taught you the overall lessons to driving and prepared us for all types of situation that will eventually happen in the future. When I heard I had to take a six hour course to get my permit, I didnt like that. But Im happy that I choose Transitions Driving Academy and I wouldnt change it for no other school.. Thank you for everything.

Transitions Driving was concerned with really teaching my son how to be a good driver rather than just pushing him through the system for the money--as another school did with my daughter, who has gotten a lot of tickets.

The owners of Transitions let me know about my son's progress in class and out--which I appreciated. After two sessions of in-car instruction, they told me that my son needed more outside practice being familiar with a vehicle, and they suggested that I supervise him in some low-speed driving (in a parking lot) or take him to a go-kart place.

Sure enough, when I got him into the car, he was swerving all over the place, so I was convinced. Since I took the owners' advice, my son did better in the following "drive times". He caught on better to what the instructors were asking him to do, and he is an attentive driver now.

I recommend this school to parents who really want their children to get an education.

My son attended this driving academy. The male owner was verbally abusive toward the young men in the class. My son was told he passed is written portion of the class and given his permit. When he went back to start the driving portion the permit was taken from him and he was told a mistake had been made he didn't pass. My son now has to retake the written portion again and try to get in for the driving sessions. The driving sessions can only be schedule at a certain time on a certain date.

this place sucks. it is a little cheaper than sears but customer service not very good. you call and no answer most of time. not set scheule when they are in office. it is a hassle to schedule the drive time. expect you to come in person only on fridays from 3-6 pm. no exceptions. very limited drive schedule times available.

I would recommend this driving school to any teenager that is ready to get their permit to drive. The owners are very patient with the teenagers and always take the time to answer their questions and show them the why's and how's to becoming a good driver. I also like the call in reservation system vs the walk in as i work downtown everyday and my son goes to Skyline and we would not be able to take off every week just to come to the school and schedule appts.

My child has completed the Class portion and will soon start the Driving portion. I appreciate that Transitions Driving allows those with jobs the options to phone in to schedule appointment times. It is nice to have an option since I work full time out of Mesquite and would NOT be able to go to the office to schedule.

Transitions Academy has been open for a over a year. I heard about them via a flyer handed out at my childs' school. I called Transitions and spoke with the owner himself, who not only offered a competitive price, but was honest, patient and very courteous with every one of my questions. When my child took the driving class, she was well prepared on areas to focus on when studying for the permit test. Transitions offers a call in/walk in opportunity to schedule drive times when the next weeks schedule is availiable (which is on Tuesdays beginning at 11:30am). Of course they have a high volume of calls during this time, but nothing that REDIAL cannot solve. I got through within 2 minutes this morning and have an appointment that works PERFECT with me and my childs schedule. And that is VERY important to me because my child is VERY busy with extracurrilar school activities as well as a part-time job.

Transition driving school in Mesquite. It is horrible, you will meet a lot of of trouble when your children study there
go there.Every week you have to make appointment for practice driving from 11:30am to 12:00 on Tuesday. But when you call that time, the line busy all time?
It's take a long time to complete the class, this is nightmare in my life

I was fortunate to have found this school in Mesquite since it is new. After speaking with a school in Mesquite and getting horrible service I called this school and I was surprised the owner of the school took my call. My questions were answered with more patience than I expected. I found him to be very honest and patient with me during our conversation. My granddaughter and her mom stopped by the school for a tour and loved it! The school is clean and everyone was very courteous. I was even told the place was so clean that a few students were sitting on the floor playing games and watching a movie.
