My wife took me to the Pine Hills Lodge in Julian, CA for Father??s day today. Views are nice and the food?what I tasted was good. Unfortunately, my wife had to wait for a large group to filter through the buffet line and almost a half hour after my son and I finished eating, she was able to get 1 pancake. Sound strange for a buffet?? Not if you eat at the Pine Hills Lodge. The restaurant that seats around 200 had 6 (yes SIX) chaffing (serving) dishes and an omelet bar with 2 frying pans (NO JOKE). Sound strange that my wife complained when the place was picked over and she waited almost 40 minutes for a pancake (no butter left)?? Ask the owner of the place. The waitress brought him over and after he interrogated my wife and belittled her for complaining of the experience, the offer was to take 10% off our bill. When she said that was an insult he shockingly replied, ??what do you want because you obviously want something (for free)." With plenty of money to pay, I did just that, PAID MY FULL BILL and made myself a promise to hit every message board I could with the unfortunate details of my spoiled Father??s Day eating experience.
Lots of places have good food but few will insult you when you complain about your ??not-so-good experience?. We ate 2 brunches in Julian today because if you can believe anyone can leave a buffet hungry, we did exactly that after leaving the Pine Hills Lodge. We ate our 2nd meal on the main strip in Julian where the service was excellent and the ??Happy Father??s Day? remarks were flowing. Not one person gave such a kind remark at Pine Hills Lodge. The owner of the Pine Hills Lodge is a pompous jerk who is too cheap to hire enough staff to man the 2 frying pans or to change out the 6 serving dishes he keeps in the restaurant.
My recommendation, eat somewhere in town on the main strip where people are friendly and you can walk to and see all that Julian has to offer. Pine Hills Lodge is more than 4 miles away anyway and the food isn??t good enough to stomach the insults or wait to see empty serving trays at a buffet you pay for:(
