great atmosphere

by hoot1981

Tao was great. recently went there with 7 girls for the weekend, and had no problem getting in. We had such a great time. Although the back VIP was really crowded, we made friends with a Bachelor party. Lots of men were there. Lots of handsome men...

Pros: good music

Cons: too crowded

What a great spot...our group got in by dropping a name of someone who had a table...no waiting in line for us..They had the best music - a great mix of old w/the new...The crowd was fun & cute...This is a great place to get a table...We didn't have one but glad some friends did...totally worth it...All in all it's highly recommended.

Pros: gorgeous space, amazing music

Waste of Time for the Money

by dbravo77

My group and I have never had a problem going to Tao until this past weekend. We always get a table, and reserved a table for 5 bottles this past labor day weekend. Everyone has always been nice and good to us. I will admit, I haven't been to Tao for 4 months. We had nice mix of girls and boys. The door guys made us wait 45 minutes for no reason. We finally got the table, and told we needed to buy a 6th bottle even though they had promised 5 bottles. After relenting, we finally said yes after they gave us a discount on the bottle. Music is alright, the crowd was alright too, and it's a sardine can in there. For a club that boasts to be a large club, they fill the place way too much where it becomes borderline uncomfortable and the club doesn't manage space very well. Security guards don't know what they are doing. The waitress couldn't get out drinks straight and would disappear for 30 minutes. We finished the 6 bottles, but only to have people bump into us all evening. I'd recommend this place before this club got attitude and started charging 6 bottles for a party of 15 people on a long weekend. Yes, I know we might have gotten on of the best tables in the house, but 6 bottles for 15 people is rather crazy. But, if people pay, i guess you can expect the club to charge it and still have attitude about it. It's a rip off, but then again most all clubs are like this on a long weekend. I don't see this club lasting long in terms of quality places to go in Vegas. I think management hasn't gotten worse. If I am going to spend $3K for a night out, I would expect to get better service.

Pros: Nice themed club

Cons: Horrible management and security guards, Hosts don't really care about customers, Too expensive

Very crowded

by bessca

Tao is a very nice club. It is gigantic! The only problem is they let way too many people in, so if you want some space, this probably is not the best place to go. There are a few different rooms, and an upstairs and downstairs. If you are going to go and don't like crowds, don't go on Friday night.

Pros: ambience

Cons: overcrowded

If you can deal with the usual b.s. you'll love this place. Otherwise don't bother.

by berhsu

If you are interested in the club you will have to come to terms with the longest lines in Vegas (1-2 hrs). Your best bet is to get your hands on VIP passes and/or grease the bouncers. Upon entering in the club, you will find the place very crowded starting Thursdays. As such, you may have to squeeze through the crowd just to have the honor of ordering their overpriced drinks. If you can over look these inconveniences the dance music will not disappoint; neither will the shee-shee zen-like decor if that impresses you. Also, the place will be generally filled with good looking people with the girl/guy ratio close to 50/50.

Dinner reservations are a must on weekends. The bouncers should let you in to the hostess located at the front of the ultra-lounge. Expect a wait whether your table is ready or not as this is their opportunity to get you to spend money for a drink at the bar. But this is also your opportunity to scope out their ultra-lounge which I thought was very hip. In fact, if you are not the clubbing type, the ultra-lounge is worthy of an entire evening in itself.

The dining area is expansive with tables on 3 levels so depending on your luck you may get a table at a great location or a not so great location (or unless you tip the hostess of course). Overall we found our wait staff to be courtesy and prompt. But expect the staff to up-sell you. That is their job if they have outrageously priced items on the menu which they have plenty of. To conclude our meal we were given a stamp that allowed us to skip the line to the club. Mind you we still have to pay cover. Although we were disappointed I figured there is no reason why a business would leave money on the table if they didnt have to. We decided to call it a night at Tao and stop bleeding money.

So if you can deal with the usual B.S. and attitude will you probably have your best night in Vegas at Tao. But if what I described not your cup of tea I recommend you avoid this place.

Tao has imploded

by willyle

I'm just talking about the nightclub; no idea how the restaurant operates. I browsed through a few of the entries below and must say that the recent ones are nearly identical to my experience here, or at least very plausible.

Pros: Moshing

Cons: Biggest fire hazard in Vegas

Nightmare Experience

by traveler556

(continued from previous- sorry, I ran out of space). When my friend politely asked the security guard (tall, bald guy) if it would be okay for the girls to sit there until the next party arrived the security guard grabbed him by the collar and told him "this isn't your business.....if you want it to be I'd be happy to break your face". I kid you not! Everyone was appalled. The girls crammed in with the rest of us, as did my friend. I went to the manager to complain and for my efforts was assured that we must have been out of line and not to bother him again unless we had a "real" problem. Again, I kid you not! I've been to some of the most pretentious clubs in the country and I've never seen anything even remotely like what I experienced at this joke of a club.

At this point, I just wanted to leave, but we were waiting for a few more people to join us, so we stuck it out. Unfortunately, things got even worse. About two hours after we'd first arrived at the club another party finally occupied the table next to us. I should say tables, plural. 6 people, roughly half our number, were given twice the table space we were. Do you want to guess what they were drinking? Absolut (the very drink we'd been told was out of stock and which, at 3 bottles ordred by this time, we'd overpaid $150 on another brand for). When I saw our waitress and asked her about this she insisted that I must have misunderstood her. That would have made FOUR people who misunderstood, as there were four of us making the drink decisions. I asked her to send the manager over again, which took about an hour. When I told him about our complaint he told me that if we didn't like our service we were welcome to leave and promptly sent two security guards over to glower at me for 10-15 minutes. After that we called it quits and waited for our friends in front of the club. We were overcharged, threatened, and otherwise treated like garbage. Steer clear of this place!

Pros: Zero

Cons: Service is horrible, staff and management rude, security is menacing

What a JOKE!

by traveler555

I don't even know where to begin. I went with friends for what I was sure would be one of the highlights of this trip to Vegas. I've been many times but never to Tao. What a disappointment. The food, while decent, wasn't nearly as good as it should have been for the price, and the service was atrocious. It took over an hour and a half just to get the appetizers right (had to send back two times). Upon receiving the dinner bill, we found we'd been charged for three bottles of wine we'd never ordered and 3 appetizers also never ordered, coming to an additional, roughly $225. We were a large party of 8, maybe Tao thought they could get away with adding a couple of extra bottles to the bill. Instead of apologizing, the waitress got snippy with us and didn't return with our bill for nearly half an hour.

Half of us were ready to leave at this point, but we'd requested a table upstairs at the supposedly great night club above the restaurant. My advice to you.... run far, far away from this place. First of all, by the time we were ready to go to the club, a couple of friends had joined us so that there were now 10 in our party. We needed a table. In order to get a table you've got to commit to ordering some bottles from the menu, not unusual for such a club. We were given a table that would accomodate no more than 4 people even though there were several larger tables available. We were told that we could not use these as they were reserved for special guests. I'lll tell you right now that nobody used those tables all night and the 10 of us huddled around one small table was amateur-hour treatment from the people at Tao nightclub. The manager would do nothing to accomodate us and sent SECURITY guards over to push us around when they thought we were moving outside of our allotted space. We actually had one of these jerks threaten 2 of the girls in our party with ejection, simply because they were sitting adjacent to our table on an empty couch. (continued)

Pros: None

Cons: Abusive security, padded bills/servers rob you, not worth the $$

Not hitting on all cylindars...

by sophie411

We made a reservation and arrived early to check in ahead of time. They were warm and said that we'd be seated shorty - that they would set up our table - and gave us a pager - like I was at a large chain restaurant in a mall. A good piece of time passed and no page or word that we would be seated. I checked back and was told the same thing in a nice pleasant way - like a programmed computer... This went on for 45 minutes. We were finally seated - 2 tables away form the restrooms. The server was good and bad - when she was there she was good - except when asked what she recommended, she rattled off the most expensive items in each category which leads me to believe she was only trying to upsell me. After she took our order - she was a ghost The restroom attendants welcome you to the restroom which is nice but then they continue to talk to you while you take care of business - strange and tacky. The food is average at best and the prices are very Vegas - expensive. The club upstairs is a whole new experience. With their HUGE square footage, they let in anyone with a pulse and a pocket full of cash. You need to tip everyone and then some to get a spot away from the masses that they need to put in the massive room. They have good looking dancers and entertainment around the club which is a nice touch - which they must spend good money on. It was VERY hot... a little more money spent on air conditioning would be good. The security guards are a joke. They are looking to secure the money in your pocket - not secure the room. The private boxes are cool - if you have enough money to tip and pay for. Overall, I was expecting much more. It's very New York rude.

Pros: Decor throughout and Live Entertainment in Club

Cons: Staff, Price and Service

Not bad, but overhyped and overpriced

by viscabarca

I ate dinner at TAO a few weeks ago and left underwhelmed given the price point. I will say this, the Chilean Sea Bass Satay is insanely good. We had to reorder it even though we were stuffed.

On the other hand the Kobe Shabu Shabu was not as good as I had hoped; perhaps my expectations were overwhelmingly high, but the flavor of the beef did not justify its $15/oz price. The sushi sucked, although that is my fault for even ordering it. I should have gone to Shibuya at the MGM if I wanted sushi, but it sounded too good to pass up. My bad.

On the hipness scale, the decor and ambiance is impressive. Just don't go expecting to love the food.

Pros: Sea Bass, Impressive look and feel

Cons: expensive, more "hip" than good food

I Could Eat Here Every Day

by mynameismita

My boyfriend and I decided to visit this place on a whim when we were spending time in the Venetian's mall. We went in for an early dinner and they sat us at a booth right behind the DJ who played a nice mix of deep house and ambient music. The place is absolutely cavernous and has a HUGE buddah statue.

The waiter was nice and informative about the things on the menu, offering his suggestions which turned out to be great. We got about 6 appetizers and my boyfriend got the Shabu Shabu with kobe beef ($15 per ounce) and I got the wasabi crusted filet mignon. Everything was near perfection.

The damage came to around $350 including drinks (they have great cocktails) and we left stuffed.

Pros: food, atmosphere, service

Cons: expensive

Amazing Food and Insane Nightclub

by sambuda

You must get reservations in order to go to this restaurant between Thursday-Sun. Similiar to the NYC "Tao", but so much cheaper. This is not a restaurant to bring your CHILDREN! or to DRESS DOWN. It is a very romantic restaurant. If you eat dinner and sweet talk your server, the will get you a stamp to get V.I.P. You still have to pay thr $20 cover, but you just skipped the line that is usually an hour or more wait. The club is amazing, very large, dark, but enought light to see all the beautiful people. A major celebrity hang out, saw Denzyl Washington in the bathroom. All beer is $8, so dont get a coors light. You will thoroughly will enjoy yourself at this club.

Pros: Music, Beautiful People, Stage Dancers

Cons: Crowded, Hard to get in, Bathroom Wait

Hot Spot to be.

by vince_52

First time @ Tao, Highly recommeded. You want to see celebritys Tao's the spot to be. We where in the V.I.P line we where in front of Kanye West, Jay-Z was already inside and before leaving the club Lil JOhn was walking in to the dance floor we where at. The place is crowded, but was worth it. When you walk in Tao you'll walk to the first dance floor, GO UPSTAIRS! (by the restrooms and the bar) theres two more dance floors, right to the stairs and left. Be prepared to wait in line for about 45 minutes to 2 hours to get in the club, unless your in the v.i.p. you'll get in with in minutes. If you dont want to be waiting in line and want to be in the v.i.p. line be prepared to pay a very expensive covercharge.

Pros: good musik

Cons: expensive, crowded

Horrid Service, Mediocre Food

by lucyandnick

The hostesses at the front desk were discourteous and rude. Although we had a reservation, they told us to wait. When we were finally taken to our table, no one came to say hello or take drink orders for 20 minutes. Finally, we flagged someone walking by. After part of our food was delivered, a second waiter came to ask us how our food was. We only received our last dish (tuna tartare) another 15 minutes later. A third waiter asked us if we would like anything else - we ordered another tempura. It never came! We told the second waiter as he walked by to cancel it. We enjoy eating at nice restaurants and the food at Tao was sub par, ordinary, and no different from the Chinese restaurant around the corner in any city. For the price of $87.25 -- it was a waste of money!

Cons: Poor Service, Over Priced, Mediocre Food

SIN CITY BOWS to TAO

by thesoy

Tao's ultra lounge/asian bistro/nightclub combo knocks out all Vegas nightlife opponents. The A-list nightclub is jampacked with wall-to-wall eyecandy; from the decorations to the go-go dancers, your eyes will continue to be amazed as you explore the club. Tao's attractive staff provides an excellent level of service making it's reputation shine brighter than Vegas's Luxor light! You can guarantee a celebrity-sighting every week at this Vegas hotspot!

Good place if you can get past the door...

by jhlong

First time dining there, had dinner reservations late on a Fri night. Reservations just mean you get passed the guys with the velvet ropes. You still have to wait 30+ min for your table. Food was good and atmosphere in the restaurant were nice, so went back for my bachelorette party. Again, reservations meant nothing and we had to wait forever for the table. The waiter gave us attitude and even though our bill was $800 (party of 10 girls), they didn't comp us into the club. Once you get into the club, you wonder what all the hype is about cause the clientele is nothing special. Too much door attitude for both the club and restaurant. Otherwise fun place. Love the mousse filled fortune cookie.

Pros: Good Food, Fun Dining, Good for groups

Cons: Pretentious, Expensive, Loud

This was a most memorable, splendid experience. If you enjoy Asian tastes and high-class atmosphere, this is the place for you. Even the wine list is great, especially for an Asian restaurant. Even if you are not knowledgeable about Asian cuisine, as some of our party was not, the waiter was most helpful in determining taste preferences and only then offering advice as to what to order.

Very happening

by blondewonder

My husband and I sidled up to the bar on a busy Friday evening and had fabulous (and large) martinis (the Blue Zen is delicious if you like coconut) and appetizers (veggie eggrolls are fried and split down the middle, veggie dumplings, and a la carte tempura that was better than Nobu's). We didn't even attempt to get into the club upstairs, mostly because it was fun (and free of cover) to watch everyone at the bar and in the lounge area. The bartender was fantastic and attentive, despite how crowded it was.

Pros: good people-watching, tasty bar food, creative drinks

Cons: expensive cover, long lines
