Opal was just boring. It was crowded, so it looked fun from the outside, but once inside (past the rude bouncer) it was blah. It's like a college bar, basically. I guess I would go back if I was wasted, but would never wear anything nice because the chairs have stains all over them and some were even missing cushions.

Pros: convenient location, near other bars

Cons: dirty, rude bouncers, blah

The reason I like this place is because you can chill out in the front or go crazy in the back. We strolled in 2 weeks ago and are going sometime soon. Just thought you should know.

If you're into 1992 hip hop and cheezy Ace of Base music, this is your gig. The music there was so bad and so loud, we had to leave. Seriously, my only requirement for going out is finding a place with good music and a laid-back crowd. The rest usually falls in place. And there are enough midtown bars to choose from that you don't need to stick around a place that's so played out.

My friend threw her b'day party here last sat. night. I have to tell you that we had a great time. We are from Jersey, but we don't have cool places like this so we have to come to NY. Sorry if New Yorkers don't like the Jersey crowd "invading". But we don't have a problem when NY'ers invade our beaches in the summer. Chill out on the "B&T" phrases! This place is cool.

Well I sort of agree with the other review. The place gets packed on Friday nights, however if you're there with friends it's really cool. We were in the back room for a while then headed downstairs. Overall I would recommend the place...

Myself and 5 of my co-workers stopped by on Friday night like at midnight and the place was packed. A little bit tight but we had a good time...it's worth hitting it again.

Opal has got one thing going for it... corner location. You can't help but peek inside on your way home from work. Let me give you a little advice-KEEP WALKING. Aside from a sea of b&t meatheads, you can have the same effect at home. Dim your lights, throw beer all over your floors (and yourself, from all the pushing and shoving going on there), turn on Top 40, and invite everyone you know to come over in their favorite gold chains and tight black shirts. If that doesn't appeal to you, like I said, ignore the "Girl, I'll house you" beat coming from inside Opal, and KEEP WALKING.

We were told to go here for a good time, but it didn't really turn out that way. A bunch of guys all trying to hit on you at the same time in a bar that looked like any other. The guy at the door let me in for free though! Good thing...I would've been dissapointed if I would have paid...nothing special.

i found it a little weird that everyone rated this place either AWESOME of HORRIBLE. but nothing in between. so a couple of us went recently and i can see why there are such mixed reactions. first of all, this place is totally generic. i agree with the guy who said it's like a bar from "anytown, usa." and the bouncers were pretty full of themselves. but the reason people would love it is if they are bridge and tunnel, blue shirts and khakis, into the top 40 music scene. as someone who's none of the above, my rating is a 3. go somewhere else for a more exciting crowd and good music.

My only problem with this joint is that you can find this in anytown, USA. It's just your run of the mill scene: lower class guys with no game or gear, trampy but not bad looking women, and top 40 music.

Then again, this is most of midtown, and I loathe midtown.

It's not hard to score here, and the girls can tell if you are anything at all because the good ones will come right up to you.

Overall, if you go with high expectations, you'll be disappointed. I probably won't be back.

A few friends and I stopped in for a couple of drinks last Saturday night. It looked like a nice bar from the outside, but inside it was a different story. This place is like a frat house... both the crowd and the decor. I didn't know whether to sit on one of the stained, wet couches or stand on the sticky floor. Not to mention the music was beat. We stayed for one drink and left in a hurry. Unless you're into a young, khaki crowd, don't bother going.

I have lived in New York for a year now and have been to many, many bars. This is the worst one I have been to so far. I have never heard so many cheesy pickup lines from so many cheesy guys in my entire life. I don't think one person their actually lives in NYC. At least the beer was somewhat cheap. But so was the crowd.

I live a couple of blocks away, and when I am drunk and going home its not bad to stop into. That being said if you don't get turned off by the bouncer and the B&T's humming around. The bar's two Russian bartenders are outstanding, the bodies on these two women are unbelieveable. The Drinks are priced well, and the back room can be hopping from time to time. It is overall a hit and miss, don't wait in line and if you don't like it after 5 minutes...cruise.

I will never be back here. Meatheads galore and dirty floors. We literally walked in and ran out. I think MC Hammer was singing "Can't Touch This" when we finally decided to call it a night(mare).

The only place to be on a Saturday night. Cool crowd, great music. I burned off a lot of calories in the back room moving to the music! Just thought you all should know about this place...

We went to Opal on Friday after work and expected to bounce around all the bars in that area. We never left! The crowd is interesting, the staff is super friendly, and the music is bumping! What a find. We will be back again.

The Scene
This is the kind of place that buttoned-up 9-to-5-ers visit at 6pm and stumble out of by midnight. Boozy office workers unwind in any one of the booths that circle the bar, where they can order up hearty bar food…
