Five Front is located in an historic brick building nestled below the Brooklyn Bridge in a up-and-coming Brooklyn neighborhood. It combines the old world warmth of the waterfront area with contemporary styling and highly praised new American cuisine. Known for their curried PEI mussels, Chesapeake Bay crab cakes and braised short rib dumplings, the chef and co-owner, Paul Vicino, updates the menu seasonally. However, the menu always includes perfectly prepared classics: steak, grilled fresh fish and pasta. For lighter fare there are burgers with frizzled onions, fresh green salads and sandwiches. Specializing in private parties in a spectacular setting 20 to 100 guests can be accommodated for any special event. With complimentary parking and a three course prix fixe on weekdays, Five Front is a classy bargain.
Great DUMBO Dining
by blastfx
Went with a party of six out to an early Saturday evening dinner. We were seated immediately outside in their really nice and open outdoor garden. Entrees ordered included the Duck, Steak, Salmon, Muscles, and a few others...but basically everybody seemed very pleased with what they chose for appetizers, main course, and desserts. On a perfect summer evening you couldn't ask for a better place to hang out for a few hours with friends.
Pros: Outdoor Garden, Overall quality of perpared menu items.
Cons: Not cheap...but what is these days?

A Keeper for Sure!
by diane alexander
Went to 5 Front last night for the first time and dined in the park-like setting outside. Had fine food - calamari salad and a scallop entree all cooked perfectly , endive salad with pecans and grapes, all super fresh and lightly dressed so it remained crispy, and a hearty crab cake that was ALL crab, with just enough "stuff" to keep it together. The chef has a light and deft hand--nothing oversauced or underseasoned . We will go back for sure, and look forward to dining indoors during colder weather, as the space was appealing--very low key and intimate. Wish the outdoor chairs were higher and more comfortable, but that is easy to fix. Hope they share their crab cake recipe!
Pros: wonderful food, service on the mark
Cons: outdoor chairs too low for table height

great food and ambiance. Outstanding service

Met a friend for dinner after a long day- was seated immediately at a table outside which was beautiful, and quite a pleasant surprise for Brooklyn. There was live music which was good and not too loud- the area is cozy and lush with foliage. Service was outstanding and staff very knowledgable. I ordered a burger which I rarely do and was not disappointed. Great flavor and accompanied by outstanding shoestring fries.
Early dinner on Friday night does not disappoint. It is a quick walk to the river after dinner with spectacular view of Manhattan.
Pros: Food, Spirits, Ambience

Fabulous Food in a Twinkling Garden....
by tbene
I live in South Florida, where garden and outdoor dining is in abundance, so I was beyond impressed to find this lovely little urban oasis in Brooklyn. . The menu is impressive, from delectable salads all the way to the mind-blowing desserts and extensive wine menu. I've had lunch and dinner at Five Front on two separate trips and they are consistent. The specials are phenomenal, the staples equally delectable and the service is impeccable. No matter what your food preferances, there are more than ample choices on their menu to please to please every palate. The last time my friends and I were there, we went crazy trying numerous appetizers, our main course, several different desserts and I don't know how much wine. We ate like we were going to the chair. This is a lovely garden dining experience I highly recommend.
