We got Chef's special wrap (roll) for appetizers, it was 3 or 4 different kinds of wraps and they were all delicious especially with the dipping sauce that came with it. One dish I particularly liked was flank steak sauteed with vegetable. I don't think I ever had such a tender flank steak before, nor would I ever expect flank steak to be tender. I felt bad for my friend as it was his dish. They were also nice enough to tell us what we got for appetizer were quite filling and 3 entrees for 4 people would be perfect.

Pros: Who would have thought Flank steak can be so tender

Cons: $$$

Really liked this little restaurant in Tribeca. The service was very good, FAST! The food was delicious. I had the Chili Shrimp and it was cooked perfectly, so tender, not too spicy, really, really good. Quaint ambience. Definitely recommend it!

Pros: Really good food, service

This place has good fresh food, excellent service, a little pricey, but still well worth going back again and again!

This is my first review of any restaurant ever, but I wanted to address the people in past posts that say that this restaurant is not authentic Vietnamese, I want to know what their comparison is and if they even know what real Vietnamese is. As a native Vietnamese living in this city, there hasn't been one good and real Vietnamese restaurant in New York besides what I find in Chinatown, which also cannot be considered authentic and most of them are not good either. If anyone wants completely authentic food, go to Vietnam. I come here for the great food, real or not and the friendly service I get every time. The price may not be comparable to Chinatown, but it's Tribeca and for that kind of neighborhood, I would expect to pay the high prices. This restaurant is a definite must for me!

The food is overpriced and not authentic. You can get good food somewhere else at half the price and taste 100 times better. Service was good.

I went to Viet Cafe with a group of friends and had an awesome time. The food was authentic and creative (banh mi was awesome, great duck and noodles) and the cocktails were yummy. I loved that the space was big and that I didn't have to strain to hear my friends. The decor was nice too. I'm definitely going back!

had a great time with friends the other nite, food was great and wonderful selection of wine. the place is casual yet elegant and classy. One of the few vietnamese places in nyc with authentic flavors and it's in the trendy Tribeca neighborhood -- unlike the fast, dirty and smelly places in chinatown

I'm absolutely shocked at the high ratings this place gets - the only redeeming quality (and what you are essentially paying for) is the ambience. Food was way overpriced, underportioned, and underflavored - this is just compounded by the fact that the best Vietnamese I've had has always been dirt cheap, and seems to stay true in NYC - best ones I've been to are in Chinatown, where it's dirt cheap.

A mate recommended I try Viet Cafe while working in Tribeca 2 weeks ago. Went back last week and I'm heading back this week. I was greeted by a lovely girl named Toni each time. First time I went, I was craving something hearty (not hoity) after a rough morning at work eating a handful of doritos with my tea and milky for breakfast on the fly. After hearing a few of her recommendations, I had this absolutely yummy meal and felt almost completely revived. I think that's what excellent food does, it gives you strength. (I did see Christy Turlington on my first afternoon, so that was another perk!). I didn't like the previous 2 reviews I just read, that's why I'm writing my own. Don't know who those reviewers met but my experiences were both positive (thank you Toni - see you tomorrow night! ;). Warning: gentlemen keep your girlfriends away from the bartender - nice but too bloody good-looking for his own good!

Looks like the last fifteen or so radiantly positive ratings have been written by the restaurant owner...shameless self promotion if i ever saw any. same writing style, grammatical mistakes, and overall sense of artificial enthusiasm. stop trying to trick people into patronizing a restaurant if the food's not good enough to keep them coming back

this place has great food, but horrible service. tonight i ordered a meal at 6pm through seamless web, but a person called me earlier at 6 to see if i wanted it instead ASAP, and i said yes. and when i called at 7:15 to inquire about the order the person who answered the phone was extremely rude to me. he had an extremely dismissive tone and insisted that it was my fault. the instructions sent to the restaurant through seamless web said no signature required and to deliver to the lobby with security, but the person adamantly exclaimed "you don't understand, the way things are done here!" then he put me on hold, and afterwards told me that it was with security. it's so sad that a restaurant with food this good has such crappy and rude service.

The Vietnamese food here is fabulous if not fantastic. The looks are extremely deceiving, in that it looks like a trendy version of what Viet cuisine should be but I couldn't have been more wrong. Try anything, heck try everything. Its hard to be disappointed with food this good.

We ate here Saturday night; the place was busy, a little loud, the wooden benches were slightly uncomfortable. But the waiters and hostess were very nice and didnt appear hassled. The appetizers (crispy spring rolls, Ha Noi pillow dumplings) were pretty good, but the entrees were outstanding (Bo Nuong, and pan seared red snapper with crispy tofu, cilantro, fresh tomato, basil, lime sauce I could drink the sauce!). Banana Flan for dessert was excellent as well. I will definitely go back; I want to try everything on the menu! Ill be eating here often during the Tribeca Film Festival for sure.

I just ate at Viet Café for the first time and I absolutely loved this restaurant. I went with four other friends and we had a great table in back. The noodle dishes, Spring rolls, and salads- all had excellent flavor and were great to share. The desserts were also impressive! We had Banana Flan and Sorbet, but the entire menu seemed like it would be delicious. Not to mention what a courteous and helpful server we had. In general, Viet Café was a remarkable dining experience and I would not hesitate to return!

Wonderful in every way! I have been to Viet Café numerous times and have never had anything less than an excellent experience. There is almost always immediate seating & if not, the bar is fun to sit while you wait! The food is innovative and mouth-watering; try the lemongrass crab cakes and the duck rolls. The decor is trendy and fun, without trying too hard, and the lighting is subtle. with a dim amber glow. Viet Café is great time with a date, a group or just by yourself!

I found Viet Cafe around the holidays and have been back many times since. The food is truly excellent, unique and tasty, not to mention the great wine selection. I specifically recommend trying the crispy spring rolls! I would recommend this place to anyone. This is now my new favorite restaurant in NYC.

My co-workers I have been to Viet Café twice and have really enjoyed our experience. It had a soft glow from the lights, a certain coziness aspect to the restaurant, making for a very amiable environment. The food was delicious and the portions were an ideal size, not too large, yet not at all undersized. Additionally, all of our meals arrived to the table steaming hot and right on time (We were impressed by the large selection of vegetarian cuisines!). The prices were also very reasonable, including all of the prices for wine. We were greeted with wonderful servers each time; they are helpful and pleasant, but not intrusive. The servers were also very well-informed and were able to make great recommendations. I have no doubt that we will be back again.

My family and I were visiting New York and this was by far the favorite restaurant in which we ate at! The entrees and desserts (the banana flan was superb) were beyond delicious, the service was attentive, friendly, and timely, and the decor was very cozy and hip. I highly recommend ordering multiple appetizers; they are all unique and great to share. We have already recommended this restaurant to all our NYC friends, you should too!

Last month, I enjoyed a friend's celebration with 10 people at Viet Cafe. Not only was the service very attentive, but we were certainly not disappointed with the great menu and food presentation. Our party was able to have a leisurely meal with appealing and tasty dishes coming out throughout the evening (I especially enjoyed the Caramelized Salmon)! Paired with a great wine list, Viet Café is a restaurant in NYC that is highly recommended.

The decor is nice with lovely paintings, except we really did not like the bench seating with no back support. The kitchen area is open, so you can see the cooks work.

Food is good but not exceptional. We all found the food, especially the main courses, to be overy salty. We found ourselves drinking a lot of water. I would say that the price is very reasonable. 6 of us with 2 bottles of wine ($38 per bottle) with family style dining cost about $300 ($50) per person, including tax and tip.

When our next table cleared out, the waiter sprayed the table with Ammonia based liquid and wiped the wooden table down, and I have to say it was a very unpleasant experience. The smell was so strong, it was offensive. They should consider a less pungent cleaning solution to spray...

My associates and I had dinner at Viet Cafe last evening. We found the restaurant through Citysearch and thank you! We had a 8:30 reservation, the place was packed, but our table was ready right on time. It was a beautiful restaurant visually and the food was amazing.
I had the Pork and my partners had the steak, duck and salmon. All excellent. We were so thrilled to have found such a wonderful place for dinner in this area. Congrats to the owners of this relatively new restaurant for such a fine job. Service, food, ambiance - couldn't give a complaint if I tried. My partners and I will definitely become repeat patrons and are looking forward to our next Viet Cafe experience.
Thank you Citysearch!

After walking in front of Viet Cafe and visiting the gallery on a number of occations, I decided to finally stopped by for dinner last night. The ambiance and decor is nice and inviting, and so are the prices! Having spent a summer in Vietnam, I'm finally glad I found a place where the food is authentic and so flavorful. Would be nice for a group, a business lunch/dinner, with friends, etc. Definitely going back soon.

The food was bland, poorly presented, portions were VERY small, and the prices were just too high. The service was poor at best. Among forgetting other things, they forgot the white rice that came with a couple of dishes and when we asked for it, the waiter reacted as if we had just asked for something outrageous.

modern, yet casual feel. marinated beef with vermicelli--typical vietnamese dish, right? but the beef is sooo tasty! ordinary dish, but superb flavor. jicama rolls were bland. the hoisin sauce is needed for flavor. spring rolls are good (not chewy). desserts are d-e-licious! i couldn't finish the mango sorbet, but i wanted to. the banana flan was yum and wasn't annoyingly gelatinous. go with it, banana fans. and, of course, the chocolate cherry bread pudding is a MUST. it comes with two sauces: chocolate and yogurt. the chocolate sauce definitely works well. yogurt sauce is questionable.

i went here with a bunch of friends and the food was amazing! i am vietnamese, so i can be critical abt vietnamese food, but i have to say, it's better than my mom's cooking!
