nice bar, good food and excellent personable staff.i went there several times and had a good time .i came back to book a party and had the mispleasure of seeing the manager in action.the way he spoke to people on the phone, his staff .his expletive language and his general obnoxious demeanor could only mean that he is also the owner because surely no other owner would give this surly ignoramus a job;(i actually met a waitress crying in the bathroom)needless to say the party wasnt booked there .

My family has been going to Clancy's since it opened and it has continued to go downhill. I called to make a reservation for 12 people and the manager was completely rude as if I was wasting his time. I have been there many times before and know that this place is NEVER busy. Once we arrived, his attitude continued and we were served raw meat and horrible food. This place is a dime a dozen and if you are not even going to get good service, I suggest going some place else.

We had our daughter's birthday party in the private dining room in back. It was the day of the crane collapse and the street was closed off. Red made sure that the NYPD gave our guests access. My guests said they enjoyed the food (I forgot to eat? LOL). The staff was very accommodating and flexible. The price was right. I would definitely recommend this location for your private party!!!

Ok, I've been to my share of bad bars. This one is by far the worse. I see that there are some posts on here raving about how they have "the best pint" or "the best guiness". I don't even know how to respond to that, suffice to say that I like Guiness enough to know that it's consistent between bars. Some others have been saying it's a good place to watch sports. I... guess... that... means... they... have... TVs? Talk about novel concepts!

On to the negatives:
1) Rude bar staff. The waitress was rude from the getgo. I find out later that she's pregnant, which I will forgive her for, but please, don't use that excuse for being a crabby person. If you feel like being unfriendly, stay at home. And the bartender... yells at me and my friends for asking for a water so we can sober up a little before heading out (after buying about 5 drinks each, and we had a large group). Since when did yelling at customers become the way to go? But the rotund midget bouncer was comical.
2) Dead spot. I thought bars on Friday nights in NYC were supposed to have customers? We were the ONLY PEOPLE THERE except the two alcoholics at the near-end of the bar.
3) Dishonest businessmen posting fake reviews: Notice that coochykoo, in his only post on citysearch, defends this bar in his response to mmling while mentioning details that weren't even implied by mmling's post--such as mmling being "thrown out"--which I can only imagine coochykoo only knew because he was there throwing him out and being an assinine shmuck.

I don't really see any redeeming qualities here. I think there are enough posts on citysearch to corraborate my experiences with the horrible bar staff. But if you wanted to be treated poorly and disrespected, this is the place to go, I guess!

Dont want to get into a debate with the last 3 postesr who disparage my contribution to citysearch when all 3 have made a grand total of 4reviews.(you pointed out i only made one review)All 3 only clancys and the last knucklehead when to the trouble of giving some other joint a favourable review on the same day they gave Clancys a bad one in order to show they"get around"and arent all bad. These are clearly people with axes to grind.I came on here when my friends(all clancys regulars)pointed out your negativesAND YES I DID CHECK WITH THE BARTENDERS AS I AM REGULAR .(are you and your "buddies"regular anywere)just as i thought .....you are full of it.How do you know the 2 people at the end of the bar were alcoholics????because they werent drinking or asking for water?Just the kind of comment id expect from people being removed from a bar.troublemakers

Ive been going to clancys for years and never had a problem. In fact i go there because theres never any trouble with customers or bartenders.there are never any doormen never. So i dont know what the asian customer was talking about or if he was in the right place.I can honestly say that if there was a problem and you were thrown out it was one of the bartenders and you deserved it.I hate how someone can come on here and trash my local boozer with no evidence.maybe if you were buying alcohol(it is a bar)instead of water the alleged problem probably wouldnt have occured.in fact im glad you were allegedly removed becuse it means the great bartenders can pay more attention to the drinking customers and not giving water to people like you .Do readers really think this place would be in business for so long treating $400 customers r badly .if you spend 5 dollars or 5000 and are an idiot at 230am then im afraid its the end of your night there and i love this place because of it.$400 on your daddys creditcard is not a license to be a jerk.Im going for a pint(MAYBE MORE) now in peace to the only place on 2nd avenue that DONT HAVE DOORMEN.this shows the clientele it attracts,.So people go there and make your own minds up and dont listen to the waterboy who had a $400 check(allegedly) and managed to get thrown out of a bar with no doormen..........Yes folks you have to be quite a tool for this to happen and then to suggest that race or religion was to blame or implied is laughable.fantastic bar and no idiots ever

Rude waitstaff and holier-than-thou bartenders is the hallmark of this otherwise run-of-the-mill Irish pub. Is it that horrible to serve a customer who spends and tips well? I am surprised by the surly service here and why people flock here for soccer games. It's beyond me how this place stays in business. Only positive is that it's clean (or at least seemingly so), and that you can leave and go to many other bars on 2nd Avenue who actually are happy to have your business (novel concept, I know).

Pros: Plenty of places to go in the area, once you are sick of this joint

Cons: Customer service

.

You should come here if you want: (1) rude service from the waitress who can't give you the time of day -- even though the bar is 1/4 full; (2) even ruder bartenders calling your Asian friend a derogatory term when your group spends more than $400 on drinks in three hours and you want to order a couple waters; (3) meathead bouncers who pushes people around, and doesn't think twice before putting others -- two females -- in harms way in trying to get their message of "we don't like your kind here even if you gave us a ton of business"; and (4) managers who feigns apology for the actions that transpired in points 1-3, then mockingly yells "shalom" to your Jewish friends as you leave and they lock their doors behind them -- on a Friday night at 2:30am.

If there are negative stars in the rating system, this is the one place that deserves it.

Just came to city for first time and im from Fort Worth Texas.never , have my wife and i been made so cofortable and welcome.Brian the irish bartender had been there and we swapped stories whilst he attended to the busy bar with happy regulars.Sampler platter for 17 bucks was Texas size and we were even asked if the t.v we were watching suited us as there was 5or6 diferent things going on.Brian made us a list of places to go and even played some Hank jr on his ipod.we went back every nite for a nightcap.i had to write this review hoping that others reading can have as good time as nyc can intimidate some visitors..I was introduced to some of the regulars and had a ball..Guinness with a shamrock, beautifully poured.cant wait to go back.truly awesome pub.dont hesitate .cheers Chuck and Eadie

In Clancy's NY I found the 2 rudest barman I have ever met.

After a few local beers we decided to try the Guinness. When it was served, I asked the barman why it was not cold. One barman told me that Guinness is supposed to be served at room temperature, the other told us that Guinness does not get as cold as other beers because it has a higher alcohol content. I explained to these guys that I'm from Dublin and I know very well what temperature Guinness should be served at, and that in fact in Ireland a Pub cannot sell Guinness unless they install double chillers. As to Guinness not getting as cold as other beers due to its alcohol content, what a crock. Its true that beverages with high alcohol content, such as Vodka, will not freeze - but to suggest that any beer will not reach the same temperature as another in the same chiller is just silly. When one barman told the other to "give them what they want to shut them up", thats when we left, leaving our full pints of Guinness on the bar.

Other than the rude barmen, the place itself is quite nice. Its obviously very popular with the Irish, most of the voices I heard were Irish.

This place has a great nighborhood atmosphere - all the posers are elsewhere at the "trendy" bars - you occassionally get an angry European from time to time shouting at a soccer match on the television but all in all it is a great place to go and relax (learn to tip fellas - you are in America now) - the food is unreal - large, generous portions of great food - the bartendars are top shelf and the wait staff is very friendly and cordial - I give this establishment the highest rating - a great sports bar as well

Good neighborhood bar. Good for watching "big" games. Try the Black Jack Burger or the Blackened Pork Chops. Watch out for angry French people during football matches.

Bartenders don't understand english sometimes. I asked the bartender 5 times for an O'Doul's non-alcoholic beer. Each time the bartender asked, "A what?!" Embarrassingly I shouted back, "O'Douls! Non-alcoholic beer!"

Needless to say their selection of fine, non-alcoholic malted hops and barley is limited, but the atmosphere is great.

Had a great time at Clancy?s for the England v Germany game on Wednesday.

We watched the game with a crowd from a German Bank who were sat next to us (ironic, given the game and the fact that we are English and them German - but we had a lot of laughs.)

After the game, we stuck around - got chatting to the barman - he introduced us to a few "locals" and we ended up the evening with them.

We ate a meal along the way - well served, well worth the money. I had (and recommend) the steak that is served with onions.

Went back for a beer tonight and I was greeted by name. Very much appreciated and unexpected. Will be back when I?m next in the area.

Forget that place! I totally agree with stephanecrunch's review. (For those who don't speak french: clancy's charged him $20 to watch a rugby game.) The same happend to me today when I went to that place to watch England-Germany soccer-game. Besides, I felt a strong anti-european attitude (no, I'm neither french nor german, but I have a slight accent when I talk). The bartender's face changed from overfriendly to sulky when I ordered and when he realized that I'm not american. For the rest of the game, he ignored me and gave me hard-time to order more beer. And No: I wasn't rude when I placed my order. I was decent and friendly. And No: I'm not super sensitive about the whole euro-thrash topic. However, something like this never happenend to me before in NYC and I've been living here for years!!!

Wanna watch RUGBY? forget anywhere else. The OTHER places try to charge you to get in.

CLANCY's is free to watch rugby games.

Help Keep the party going though and hold up your end of the bargain by eating and drinking

The wings and salad are excellent. go surprisingly well with a guiness

My girlfriends and I have been coming to Clancy's since November of '06 and hands down has the best burger in the city called "the black jack burger". It is our favorite by far on the menu and the menu is extraordinary. You can get anything from wings to egg rolls, to a great salad, or even a juicy steak. The service is excellent and staff is always extremely friendly. I would recommend it for big groups of people especially for happy hour, as it has plenty of space and you don't feel like you crammed into the bar area.

We went here for brunch today with out of town guests. We waited over an hour for our food. When we asked where it was the waitress rudely said it was coming. Five minutes later the busboy came out and said it would be a few more minutes because the waitress didn't put in the order until we asked where the food was!! She didn't even have the decency to come over and apologize herself. She made him bring out our plates and only at the very end did she come over with the check. Not only did they not apologize, but they had the nerve to charge us for refills and there was an 18% gratuity added to the bill. When we questioned the gratutity she got very defensive and told us to do what we wanted. All we wanted was an apology for such awful service. The food was average and we'll never recommend this place again. If they can't manage decent service when the place is empty, I can't imagine what it'd be like on a busy day.

One of the best sports bars in all of New York! The crowd, food, and bartenders are all top notch. Plenty of flat screens to watch all the games and unlike other sports bars, the TAP BEER is not SKUNKED! Clancy's is an institution.

Service was efficient, if not overly friendly. The staff allowed us to shift tables and grow as more people arrived. There were no complaints, but no bantering and joking either. The bar had all the best attributes of an Irish bar. The music not too loud. Lot's of wood. Irish beer. The barfood varied. Goto complained about the onion rings: they fall apart, when they're not sticking together. "Not fresh," he said. On the other hand, the ethnically unique Irish Curry French Fries, were excellent. --Drink Club is a roving group of NYC drinkers
