pleasant athmosfere

I got to the place because my friend recommended it. And it was worth trying. The food is delicious and so is the service. You do not have to wait to get a seat.

simply wonderful

This Haru is the nicest. Everything at Haru is amazing and fresh. I've never had a bad meal there. They have normal prices. I would reccommend the steamed vegetable dumplings, and of course the SAKE.

STAY AWAY IF YOU LOVE SUSHI!

by Insider77

If you enjoy the cuisine of japan, this is NOT the place to go. The price and quality of the fish is average, and I would not even consider a non-sushi/non-sashimi dish. Everything seems to be laden with chain-style ketchup sauces, changing the dishes' taste from what you would expect and what it should be. The salad tasted old, the dressing was watery and oily, and the "teriyaki" dishes do not have an authentic teriyaki taste. To top it off, the service was terrible. The waitress forgot a soup, 3 salads and a bowl of rice and ignored the table for 10-15 minutes at a time. If you don't like your food, too bad - you are expected to pay full price for food you cannot eat. The food is NOT for japanese food lovers, and neither is it for people who enjoy quality of service.

Simply bad in all aspects; beware of broken glass in your soda!

by btour

I am a big fan of Haru on 3rd Ave. and 75th St., great place, great food. But this one on Park Ave. is simply bad. It's crowded, looks more like a place to have a lunch meeting where nobody cares about the food. I went there the first time, the sushi was average (came warm). Second time, the sushi was warm again, the order came wrong and it simply didn't taste good - and you won't believe it - there were pieces of broken glass on my diet Coke. I did swallow some of them and the rest stayed in my mouth. The reward for such experience? A $10 credit on my tab. They couldn't even have the sensitivity of removing the diet Coke from the tab! Unbelievable. In terms of food quality, I already said, below average. The wasabi came dark green, hard like a rock, typically of wasabi prepared two days ago. I can do better at home by buying wasabi powder, honestly. Went to this place twice, gave it a last chance, will never step in ever again.

Pros: Hot manager or hostess, whatever her role was

Cons: Everything else

Great Happy Hour. Oh Wait, It's Called Debriefing Hour

by jalter3

Always been a fan of Haru. Never went there for the Happy Hour after work until this past week. It is what you would expect out of a Happy Hour in New York City. A loud mix of suits and interns getting off of work looking to unwind. The special prices (listed below) are only available in the bar section, so you can't sit outside, nor can you sit in a nice quiet area. But if you're with a few friends, just pull up seats by the bar and enjoy. To me, Haru has always been a great value place for sushi. You get what you pay for, and Haru offers quality Sushi for prices that won't decimate your wallet.

The prices for Debriefing Hour (5 - 7 pm) are as follows:
Japanese Draft Beer (Sapporo or Kirin) $3
Haru Cocktails $5
Edamame $3
California Roll $3
Spicy Tuna Roll $4
Crunch Spicy Salmon Roll $4
Spicy Chicken Teriyaki $5
Tempura $5
1 Seafood and 1 Vegetable Spring Roll $5

I went with 2 friends after work. We each got 4 rolls (I liked the Spicy Tuna and California Rolls better than the Crunchy Spicy Salmon Roll) and a couple of beers. The cocktails looked great for $5 and the teriyaki also looked very good. Overall, we had an enjoyable experience and will be going back a couple more times this summer for some beer and sushi.

Don't go here expecting 5 star Sushi. Thats not why you go to Haru. But its definitely very good, and the prices are great. Atmosphere depends on day, but we were there with a slightly older crowd (Late 20s). On days that you go with a group of friends, you can easily turn it into your spot.

Pros: Cheap Rolls, Cheap Beer

Cons: Can get crowded at times

Absolutely Fabulous

by longislandcutie

This place is honestly an excellent restuarant and the vibe is great. It's a great place to go to for dinner at night with all your friends. I personally don't like sushi but Haru is still one of my favorite restaurants because of everything else and everyone I know says the sushi is amazing. My personal favorites are the chicken terriaki and house salads. Although it's a little bit expensive it's still a fabulous place to try at least once.

Pros: Amazing food and drinks, awsome restaurant vibe

Cons: Slightly expensive

Loud

by sharmagirl

If you don't want to hear your date or your friends then definitely come here on a Thursday evening. The food is amazing and comes out really fast, however the music is loud considering it is a small place and the volumes bounce off the walls right into your ears! Highly recommended are the dungeness king crab dumplings, they are absolutely to die for! For drinks, I usually have the saketini which is amazing.

Pros: Not too pricey/Delicious food

not that good japanese restaurant

by davus

i went to this restaurant yesterday with my girlfriend, and we wait about 45 minutes for our food and our waitstaff just standing and talking and not notice if our food not coming yet.and the food taste blah and i dont think i will come back for this kind of restaurant.the only thing i like about this place is the fish tank .trust me is not worth it to have a sushi in this place,is too pricey and the waitstaff not too friendly ,so the point is we're not going back to this place again.

Pros: a nice fish tank

Cons: pricy,the food blah,sushi not fresh,service lazy

Excellent, highly recommend

by city_kat

Indeed GREAT food. The sushi is good, not the best I've had, but certainly not mediocre or poor. The service was excellent and the managers were great too. The music is a little loud, but I went during happy hour when everyone was going there to "wind down" from the days stressful workday. Happy hour at this place is perfect, good saki selection and beer selection too.

Pros: excellent fusion food, great service and happy hour

Cons: loud music

AMAZING Sushi

by tag788

One of my favorite sushi restaurants in the city (particularly this location). Can get expensive- but worth it if you are a real sushi lover! Great eggplant appetizer and the best ginger dressing you will find! Sometimes service is slow or even at times too fast-- but the sushi is too good to care!

Pros: Ambiance, Fresh Sushi

Cons: Expensive

GREAT food, Decent Service, BUT EXPENSIVE!!

by honestfoodluver

I've been ordering for delivery here for the past year, and I've dined here a few times. Their food is GREAT!! I highly recommend the duck salad, seaweed salad, kamikazi roll, shrimp tempura roll, and eel don. I think their sushi and chirashi entrees are good deals. When I dined here, we had decent service; they were polite but not TOO attentive. However, it wasn't bad service at all. The atmosphere is lovely, with a trendy vibe, and each time, there was a lot of people. However, we were always seated promptly. My only complaint is the prices. It's too bad that it's so expensive. However, I honestly think that this place is worth the try if you're willing to shell out a little more for some great sushi.

Pros: Food and Atmosphere

Cons: EXPENSIVE!

Excellent quality and value, although it's on the expensive side

by cnanino

The service was excellent and the food was delicious. We are very particular about sushi and were both please with every choice which included: ceviche mix (special), crab dumplings, assorted sashimi, sushi and rolls, two types of sake, and the banana tempura.
Overall the restaurant is more expensive than our other sushi favorites, but everything was delicious. Definitely a great spot for a nice occasion or date.

Pros: scenery, crowd, variety of rolls and sushi

Cons: expensive comparied to our other favorites

Consistently Great

by miacomp

Haru serves very fresh fish, has a trendy, modern ambiance, prime location on Park Avenue South and friendly service. Its a go-to for dates as well as entertaining out of town guests. We always have a delicious meal and always leave feeling satisfied. Don't leave without trying One Night in Tokyo.

Great place

by mrgrey

It's too bad that the two reviewers below had sub-par experiences because I've found that Haru's best place for lunch and after-work drinks/dinner around my office. It's where my colleagues and I take all of our clients - you get great food and atmosphere without getting ripped off!

Pros: food, atmosphere

Cons: long waits at lunch

Incredibly rude, Crappy food

by that70sgrrl

I will never visit this restaurant again. Had been sitting with friends for about 2 hours, ordering food/drinks all the while, when we were suddenly presented with a check. After 2 tries by the waiter to take it away (we hadn't even looked at it yet, we had full beers yet to drink), the manager approached and told us they needed the table for people with reservations. WTF? Glad you have the luxury to throw out paying customers.

Pros: none

Cons: rude management, subpar food for price, slow service

One of the Worst

by sushi_search

I haven't been to the other locations. Haru on Park S is simply disgusting. The fish was not fresh and the rice tasted old and stale. Quite frankly, this is some of the worst sushi I have ever tried. Will never be back.

Can we say SUSHI!!

by indianprncss102

I love this place! I've been there 3x's, their 3rd Ave location, Park avenue & Broadway/W 43rd St. location. Appetizer, I always get the Rock Shrimp Tempura with spicy cream sauce. Well, I'm Indian & I like spice & this is nothing for me compared to what I've had before. Then for my regular meal I normally get my usual, california roll & boston roll. But my friends have had their alaska roll, their sashimi, & their dragon rolls are so damn scrumptious. Their food in general is great! So, if you're a sushi lover/Japanese food lover, you should hit this spot. I'd definitely recommend going here with a date/loved one or a few friends, or whatever.

Pros: food, atmosphere, staff

Very Impressed

by sushi81

Went last night with my boyfriend, and was amazed. Sushi excellent, very big pieces, service great, nice 'ambiance' too. We were seated somewhat closely to another party, yet we didn't even notice. Price was excellent... came out to $70 for the two of us, we ordered a small appetizer and 5 amazing rolls that we didn't even come close to finishing! Special rolls more pricey of course, but great normal rolls in the $7-$10 range that were out of this world. Walked right in w/o reservations around 8pm on Sat. night. Definitely great bang for the buck!

Pros: not too loud, cool music, dark

Cons: close seating

Very good!

by jaiyamar

I went to Haru Park for lunch with a co-worker. The service was very fast and the sushi special was very good. The fish was fresh and the presentation was great! Its reasonably priced for lunch. The wait staff is a bit curt and not as warm as you would hope, but it was very busy so it is to be expected. The only negatives I see are that the tables are VERY close together and it is extremely noisy...

Pros: Great sushi, Decor, Fast service

Cons: , Cramped seating, Unfriendly staff

Awesome food and service.

by DMAN1708

I eat here all the time, and had a big group dinner here for 18 people. They gave us our own area, and the food and service was terrific. The eggplant appetizer is unrivaled, and the sushi is terrific too. People are nice and the space is really cool. Great background music. Friendly management. Great strong drinks. Reasonably priced. AWESOME. GO HERE IF YOU ARE TRYING TO DECIDE WHERE TO GO.

Pros: great food, great service, great value

Cons: , none, none

Business Lunch

by cleolewis

The sushi and appetizers were very good and timed well. Service was prompt and managed a group of 10 easily. Only negatives were the hostess that was rude while taking reservations (twice with two different people) and the noise level in the restaurant.

Pros: Sushi, Wait Service

Attentive Service - Tasty Food

by RogerGill

The atmosphere here is sophisticated without being pretentious and the service is excellent. Prices could be a smidge lower, but the food was good enough to get away with the cost - and the portions were LARGE.

Pros: atmosphere, menu variety, good food

Cons: sort of pricey

Great sushi!

by kal102374

I was so excited when Haru came to midtown! No more having to drag myself up to the upper east side for good sushi. Furthermore, Haru is in the office building where he used to work so I have eaten here many a times! Great fresh tasting sushi is the bottom line!

Great Sushi

by carchan

What a nice surprise to stumble upon this great sushi restaurant in midtown. We've had a lot of sushi and the portions were big and the fish was fresh. Their special dish, Sushi for Two should be Sushi for FOUR.
