Keefer's ranks highly among my favorite restaurant experiences anywhere, ever.
Called ahead that we would be 30 mins late for dinner. Even though it was a busy Friday eve, packed house and bar, we were seated immediately upon arrival. Informed our waiter, Trent, that we were on a schedule as we were late and had theater tickets. He made us feel relaxed and comfortable, and immediately took our order. I say truly, the timing of every detail of our meal was made to be simply perfect. In the end we were not rushed at all, enjoying our dinner experience fully. And thanks to Trent, we were in our seats just before opening curtain!
The food was excellent except my house salad, which was merely good. It was very plain - just Bibb lettuce and some red cabbage. It was fresh and tasty, just plain, and a little too light on the flavorful balsamic vinaigrette. I had the small filet mignon "diane" style, which was a little larger than expected - perfect size. It was superb - perfectly cooked to medium-rare, delicious sauce in its proper limited quantity, probably the finest steak I've ever enjoyed. My date's steak was equally good. Sides of au gratin potatoes and "Hogan's Peas" were also excellent and perfectly sized. With clock ticking, I asked Trent if we had time for the orange chocolate creme brulee. He said we would have it in three minutes. Three minutes later, he brought our absolutely delightful dessert and the check.
The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the food was outstanding. Every portion was perfect - not too much, not too little. But the best part of this experience was the service - truly exceptional. The staff allowed neither our wine nor water glasses to be empty, our needs were cheerfully accommodated with precision, and the entire experience was managed and orchestrated in a relaxed, yet efficient and professional manner.
Slightly pricey, yes, but worth what I paid. A memorable experience. Highly recommended.
Pros: Attentive, accommodating service. Truly outstanding food. Nice wine list.
Cons: None except the plainness of the basic house salad.
