This was a great place! Wonderful food and great location! The price was reasonable for what I ordered. The drinks were great too!

All the new steakhouses popping up have nothing on Keefer's. In fact, I feel that they are more reasonably priced, the steak was to die for! The portions are huge, the staff doesn't try and upsell, upsell, upsell (ahem, Maestros). The sides are out of this world. Will be back over and over again. Wish I hadn't waited so long to try them out!

I came to Keefer's before seeing a show with some friends. The steaks were cooked to perfection, the service was great, and the drinks were amazing! Make sure you call ahead for reservations because this place can get packed.

Would highly recommend Keefer's for a party.\r\n\r\nWas planning my mom's 75th birthday and stumbled across this restaurant on the web. Photos looked nice, etc. -- that's all I knew of the place. Our whole group was blown away by the food -- large portions, cooked exactly how each of us wanted. They had us in a private room with its own entrance (Keefer's Kafe), which was quaint and comfortable. Servers were personable and attentive. \r\n\r\nPrices were excellent and they have the lowest ""minimum"" for a party of any of the restaurants I contacted. Downside -- they charge a $100 server fee and had a mandatory 20% tip. This put the cost of service at 28% of the total tab. The service was great but 28% is quite high.

Let me save everyone the trouble. The food is okay, and may be worth the visit. However, I have dined at this restaurant several times - each time giving it a 2nd, or in my last visit, 3rd and final chance. The service staff is very rude! I have a friend who is a travel agent and he said "" I told you they are rude there, and I told you not to go back"". So there you have folks - up to you. In a city with so many choices, they really can't afford to be rude.\r\n

Service ok,\r\n\r\nTuna steak mushy, fatty, bland in flavor\r\nBaked Spud no better than a Ryans steak house\r\n\r\nDo yourself a favor and head to Cap Grill or Harry Cary's across the street\r\n\r\nCarys is hands down better and has ambience, this place is sterile and way over hyped\r\n\r\nblahhhhh

I've eaten here a few times, in small groups (4-6) and in a large group (15-20). When in a small group, the food is amazing. My filets when I've eaten in small groups have been the best I've ever had. \r\n\r\nWhen in a large group for a company party, while the service was impeccable (my wine glass did not go empty!) and the appetizers delicous, the steak suffered. My filet was well done (I'd ordered medium rare) and it did not have the preparation I had asked for. The sides and desserts are still delicious though. Great creamed spinach, great house salad with bibb lettuce and some Belgian endive on the side.

The service is impeccable here. The staff is patient and willing to answer any questions and always have great recommendations. The portions are huge and worth the money you spend. The really cute manager told my friends to come on Fridays for their happy hour. I'd definitely go back.

Keefer's has proven to always have consistent food and great service. Every year my husband and I go out for ""our holiday dinner"" around Christmas, and this is the only restaurant my husband will go. We also recommend Keefer's to all our friends! Keefer's is all around the perfect restaurant.. Great food, great atmosphere, and great service.\r\n

Keefer's doesn't get as much attention as some of the other steakhouses but I think the food there is just as good. I have had lunch here several times and have enjoyed everything (especially the desserts!). It has a slightly older feel to it, but that was fine with me.

Visited Keefer's on 12/3 for a late dinner. We were seated immediately even though we were a bit early. Our server, Patty, was at our table immediately. Her service throughout the evening was absolutely wonderful. A glass was never less than half full. She also knew the art of ""when to and not to"" approach the table. Everyone who served our table was excellent. I even got football game scores from a waiter. The food was incredible and I still cannot get over the portions. After a hectic day we wanted to slow down and we did. We enjoyed a leisurely 2 1/2 hour dinner (our pace -not theirs) that I will remember forever. We will be back!

Keefer's ranks highly among my favorite restaurant experiences anywhere, ever.\r\n\r\nCalled ahead that we would be 30 mins late for dinner. Even though it was a busy Friday eve, packed house and bar, we were seated immediately upon arrival. Informed our waiter, Trent, that we were on a schedule as we were late and had theater tickets. He made us feel relaxed and comfortable, and immediately took our order. I say truly, the timing of every detail of our meal was made to be simply perfect. In the end we were not rushed at all, enjoying our dinner experience fully. And thanks to Trent, we were in our seats just before opening curtain!\r\n\r\nThe food was excellent except my house salad, which was merely good. It was very plain - just Bibb lettuce and some red cabbage. It was fresh and tasty, just plain, and a little too light on the flavorful balsamic vinaigrette. I had the small filet mignon ""diane"" style, which was a little larger than expected - perfect size. It was superb - perfectly cooked to medium-rare, delicious sauce in its proper limited quantity, probably the finest steak I've ever enjoyed. My date's steak was equally good. Sides of au gratin potatoes and ""Hogan's Peas"" were also excellent and perfectly sized. With clock ticking, I asked Trent if we had time for the orange chocolate creme brulee. He said we would have it in three minutes. Three minutes later, he brought our absolutely delightful dessert and the check.\r\n\r\nThe ambiance was warm and inviting, and the food was outstanding. Every portion was perfect - not too much, not too little. But the best part of this experience was the service - truly exceptional. The staff allowed neither our wine nor water glasses to be empty, our needs were cheerfully accommodated with precision, and the entire experience was managed and orchestrated in a relaxed, yet efficient and professional manner.\r\n\r\nSlightly pricey, yes, but worth what I paid. A memorable experience. Highly recommended.

Pros: Attentive, accommodating service. Truly outstanding food. Nice wine list.

Cons: None except the plainness of the basic house salad.

We made reservations for a group of 12 people and we were promptly seated when we arrived. The staff were very friendly, we actually had 2 waiters at our table Minos and another gentleman (sorry I can't remember your name) who were funny, knowledgeable and charming. If you are looking for an excellent Chicago steak house this must be on your list. My filet came perfectly prepared, although next time I would ask for no salt in the seasoning.

My husband & I visited Keefer's for the first time last weekend. It was such a nice experience. The food was excellent!! The breaded calamari & spicy sauce was out of this world!! Steak was perfectly done for both of us as we had requested it and absolutely delicious! The staff was very professional and we always had drinks and everything we needed without really knowing they were there. Romantic... The only thing I would say is that we were a little underdressed -- We were told there was no dress code and it was casual, but we would have felt a little more comfortable if we had dressed up a little more. We'll be back. Great food!!

Great Steaks and wonderful service. I usually like my steakhouses dark and mysterious, but Keefer's delivers despite it's more modern bent. The service is always helpful, the meat is always perfectly cooked and the salads, sides and desserts do not disappoint. Also a great place to have a nice lunch!

You have your choice of good steakhouses in Chicago. I like this one because of the atmosphere. Modern, casual style. The service was very good and the steak was nicely done. I felt I got a good price/value at this restaurant. Wine list was very good.

Tired of the same old same old? Gibson's, Stetson's, Ruth Chris, and on and on. Keefer's has some major differences as compared to some of these ""old time, used to be"" restaurants \n\nThe reason for this is simple. Chef John Hogan! Trained by Chef Jean Joho several years ago, he virtually developed the modern day Bistro menu at Kiki's Bistro, and displayed incredible haute`cuisine at Savarin, he has the touch.\n\nThe difference in Keefer's is in the areas in which Chef Hogan is allowed to stretch his legs. Hogan's brilliance comes through with his appetizers, his sauces, his specials of the day (particularly his Fish Specials) and the wonderful desserts. Hogan demonstrates a remarkable light touch and an incredible array of new ideas that wind up being staples in the restaurants around town in a couple of years. \n \nKeefer's is a bit pricey. But, aren't they all?\n\nJohnny Dollar

We celebrated my parents 50th Anniversary at Keefer's. The dinner was good, the service was average, the price was a little high. The waiter who served us took care of us up to the main entree and never returned. It would have been nice if the owner or chef would have stopped by our table just to say hello to my parents. Although my parents were happy to be celebrating their anniversary together with their family, I was disappointed in the lack of attention to the customers in the restaurant. Interesting enough someone famous was arriving at the restaurant as we were leaving camera crew and all. Needless to say they were definately getting the restaurants attention. Just a reminder Keefer's, it takes more than someone famous to keep your doors open so try to treat all your patrons as if they were famous!!

I have been going to Keefers since they first opened and have never had a meal that was less than outstanding.\n\nThe whole staff treats you like a good friend, and works to make sure your evening is enjoyable. \n\nThe bone in rib eye is my favorite but have been pleased with my other orders as well. \n\nExcellent wines and the price is what you would expect from any fine steak house.\n\nI will continue to return and recomend Keefers to others.\n

Where to start? Service was terrible - our drinks order was taken while one of our party was in the restroom. Our main course came with two sides missing. The desert order was taken while another of the party was in the restroom. The fish pie was a runny fish soup with puff pastry on the top. The prawns were rubbery and tough. I was ill upon arrivel home. An expensive disappointment. I will never go back there. In a restaurant where you can be paying $44 for an entree (that's not including the sides) I expect better.

This is by far the most disappointing meal I've had in Chicago. $28 for a filet the size of a racquetball? I asked for it medium, but you had to squeeze it to see any juice. It was slightly pink in the middle, but overall, very dry. It was so bad, in fact, they comped me for the steak. My friend's steak was just as bad. And the Caesar salad was ridiculous. Iceberg lettuce with a little dressing and a couple of croutons. It reminded me of one of the premixed bagged ones you can get at Dominick's. The lobster bisque was average at best. It's the only restaurant in the area that had immediate seating on a Friday night, and now I see why. You're much better off sticking with one of the big name places if you're in the mood for a steak.

I just want to thank all those that gave poor reviews because I think someone at Keefer's read them thus a complete turn around in service because I had a GRAND TIME! Our waiter was knowledgeable and pleasant, the food was DELICIOUS and I can't wait to have more of their potato croquettes. YUMMY!

I went to the restaurant with high expectation. The chef came from Ruth Chris and I believe the restaurant is managed by Ruth Chris management as well. We got seated right away and the service was wonderful, however, the steaks (which were why we went there) were just okay. We ordered four different types of steaks from the menu and two of them were actually too salty. Mine did not have any taste. They were large size steaks so you pay for the size but not the taste

I went to Keefer's to take my mother, grandmother for Mother's day with my friend and his mom. I had read so many good things about the place. To start off, my friends mom had a hat on, and the host was rude about her taking it off. Then they provided us with a flavorless relish tray that sucked. The salads were weak. I've had better ceasar salads at Denny's. Most of us ordered filet mignons medium well. Most of our steaks didn't come how we ordered them. They did attend to mine immediately, and I had a fresh steak, done perfectly, pink throughout, no blood, within 5 minutes. However, the potato was lousy along with the desert. Overall, I was disapointed. There are way to many great steak houses in Chicago like Gibson's, and Fogo De Chao to be going to Keefers.

Keefer's is a local gem. Glen is among the best restaurantuers in Chicago. If you have grown tired of Morton's, continue to wonder about Ruth Chris, and find the Palm a rip-off...come to Keefer's. In fact if you want fairly priced, good food and good service, comet to Keefer's!

Sadly, the reviews I read did not compare to the disappointing ambiance, or lack thereof, and the rather unpleasant cuisine that my wife and I shared at Keefer's. The competition for steakhouses in Chicago is vast, and unfortunately, our experience here was not a good one.

I was curious as to why there were 2 terrible reviews for this resturant. I can honestly say the service I recieved was very good, the food was terrific and the ambiance was very pleasant.\n\nThe food is on the pricey side, but I've come to expect that dining in Chicago. I got what I paid for and I didn't leave hungry. I must have been seated at the start of the dinner rush because my waiter neglected to give me the the run down on the evening's specials. The waiter did keep my glass full and didn't hurry me thru my meal. I was seated immediately. The steak was cooked to my preferance and the side dishes were flavorful and not overwhelming. \n\nIf you're in the area, There are a number of great steakhouses to choose from. I don't think you'll be dissapointed if you choose Keefer's.

Was here on Valentine's Night and was promptly seated even though they were packed. Waitress was a joy to get to know and food was awesome. The Tenderloin Dianne was an excellent appetizer. The bar area is a cool place to hang out. Some people complain about the prices but it is no different than any other hot spot downtown.

Dined at Keefers on a Thu. night with 6 associates. Colleague and I arrived a little late and missed cocktails, but it was apparent the bar was a place to see and be seen. For a bigcity steak place the menu was fairly priced (not cheap, but reasonable given the fare; steaks and seafood from $24 to $35 and other entres from $14 to $22). Salad, steak, sides and desert were all delicious. Barely used any bearnaise since steak was so flavorful without it. Those who ordered appetizers and seafood also raved. Only downside was the place was packed from time we arrived until we left around 10 pm. This meant it was a little hard to hear my companions at times, and while attentive, the wait staff was spread a little thin. All in all though, a great meal. Will gladly return the next time in Chi-town.

Keefer's is by far one of the best steak houses in Chicago. The steak I ordered, a New York strip, was one of the best tasting steaks that I've had. The service was great and so were the side dishes. If you're looking for great steak, try Keefer's. You will not be sorry.

One of the most compelling thing about this restaurant is the unbelievable bad food and even unparalleled non-present customer service.

Pros: large dining hall

Cons: expensive, food nightmare

Be adventurous and try this new guy on the block. Forget about the old Chicago institutions; they've had their day. This is the place for a superb steak (and a great seafood meal as well.)

Arriving an hour earlier than our reservation, we expected to be seated in the bar, but we were wisked to a table immediately. Our waiter, Eric, appeared, within moments had us relaxed, informed and prepared for a delightful evening. My wife ordered one of the specials, the Duck Confit, and I had set my sights on a filet while making the reservations. Both were wonderfully prepared and presented, and while ""Tater-Tots"" and ""Hogan's Peas"" don't sound exciting, I recommend them highly! Chef John Hogan stopped by our table, and upon hearing of our upcoming visit to NY, referred us to four restaurants in Manhattan. Our new favorite, Keefer's, thanks to Chef Hogan and his excellent staff, is at the top of our referral list.

Everything I have had here was absolutely wonderful. The steaks were tender; the fish was very flavorful; every potato dish was great; the service is great too. Highly recommended.

We dined at Keefers on a Saturday evening and found the food to be wonderful, the service impeccable, and the ambiance romantic. Our server, Eric, was attentive without being a nuisance. The chef, John Hogan, stopped by our table, not once, but twice to chat and share secrets to his fabulous Hogans peas and pickled garlic cloves from the relish tray. My wife had the steamed Sea Bass in Parchment, an evening special. It was light, delicate and just slightly sweet with the perfect combination of herbs. She said it was absolutely divine. Myself, I had the Dover Sole, which rivaled that which Ive had in London. Done to perfection and served with a brown butter and lemon sauce that was the perfect compliment to the fish. A perfect 10!

Tried Keefer's for lunch and ended up dissappointed. I ordered the ravioli which was very dissappointing. When I order ravioli I usually look forward to the flavor, or stuffed part of the ravioli, not much here, mostly pasta dough and the tomato sauce - that's all it was tomato sauce. My boyfriend ordered the fish and chips, don't expect much fish under all the breading, but if you want thick crunchy breading minus the fish, this is for you. Over-priced and over-rated.

I had eaten here before, but returned to sit outside with a group of eight. The chef is as good as I have found in Chicago. The last time I was here, I had a great steak. This time, we had some fabuolous appetizers, including the shrimp and also the crab cakes. My entree was a herb encrusted red snapper that was perfect. The atmosphere was terrific; the outside patio is a lot of fun. It is a great miz of tremoendous food in a very fun environment. I highly recommend it, both to locals and out-of- towners.

On a recent trip to Keeblers, my steak was overcooked and my guests lamb chops were undercooked. The owner, manager, nor chef came to our table to apologize. After waiting another 20 minutes for our second try at a meal, my guests lamb chops were overcooked. WOW WHAT A PLACE!! ONE THE MOST EMBARRASSING LUNCH TRIPS I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED. NEVER GO TO THIS RESTAURANT, IT IS TERRIBLE!!!

From the fantastic steaks to the personal attention of the management, Keefers is a class act. We were warmly greeted by Rich Keefer and seated immediately at our reserved time. The shrimp were huge in the shrimp cocktail appetizer and drinks were perfectly mixed, not too strong or weak. Filet with sauteed mushrooms and steamed asparagus were fantastic and portions were a challenge to finish. The Apple Gallett was a light and tasty dessert. Rating: 10

Thanks to a review found in Delta's inflight magazine my wife and I visited Keefer's in June this year. We were seated promtly and enjoyed a comfortable table near the back. While the menu consists of items common to many mid-range restaurants, the quality of the food was indeed impressive. I enjoyed the crabcakes, spinach, and small steak. All were wonderful. I only have a couple of complaints. While our waiter was friendly and professional he appeared overburdened by the number of tables he was attending to. On several occasions we looked for him in order to add both drink and food items; all in vain. I also felt my drinks (Rum and Coke) were weak. I also think that at least one vegi side should occupany each main. $7 for a small side of spinach? Please.
