We had dinner here with our good friends. This restaurant has been around since 1976 & I know why. Good drinks, good food at an appropriate price & good wait service. Our waiter, Oscar was wonderful..was fun, but not 'gushy'. Didn't bug

Have been going here since I was a kid! If you want some deliciously greasy cheesy Americanized Mexican food la Fonda's is the place. It's me and my wife's guilty pleasure. We used to go there quite a bit but we moved to the other side

La Fonda has decent food. It reminds me a lot of Chula Vista in West St. Paul, which is nostalgic for me (my family would go there for birthdays when I was a kid). I went there with a person I PCA for; it's his absolute favorite

I have been going to La Fonda since 1987. It was closed for a couple of years and reopened in its current incarnation in 1992. I am spoiled by La Fonda. I cannot eat authentic Mexican food as the Tex-Mex or more specifically New Mexican

Full disclosure: I tend to be a wimp when it comes to Mexican food. So I have never been brave enough to try the green chile sauce and have no idea if it's any good. And I doubt I'm alone here. No, La Fonda's food may not be authetically

We go to New Mexico every year. The salsa and the green chile at La Fonda are just exactly right. It is the best of traditional rustic NEW Mexico (as in the State of New Mexico) cuisine. Like the people who live there really eat. Do

I have enjoyed this Mexican restaurant for the good food and quick friendly service. I'm usually going there at lunch time and can get in and out in an hour. The food is authentic and I've never had a bad meal. I'd recommend to those looking for a good Mexican meal.

The previous 5 star reviews were obviously written by an owner or the washed up model who does they're advertisements. The management treats the staff terribly, in front of customers. They also treat customers the same way when you mention that swearing at an employee on the dining room floor is dispicable. The food is terrible. Very bland. They're so called ""Brothers Burrito"", apparently the hottest item on the menu, was boring. I think they just added the jalapenos to cover the taste of inferior beef. I mean seriously, do they not check they expiration or is it that poor quality? Further more this is not real authentic mexican. I would prefer to eat at El Loro down the street. At least there when then manager comes to the table to check on us, he doesn't tell me I'm wrong when I tell him my burrito is not right. At Lafondas they say ""well that's the way it's made."" What happened to ""let me fix that for you"" or ""is there anything I can do?""

We had a goup birthday party this past Saturday and I cant even begin to explain my disappointment. We had reservations for 12 and we were given a table for 10. WE asked the waitress for another table... 15 minutes later 2 people in our party were still standing at the bar...so we asked the manager, he finally got us the table but not without being rude first. The food took forever to get to us. Drinks were hardly refilled. Food tasted ok though. Then we had another encounter with the manager who was again completely rude. AND to top it off... I checked my bank account today and I was charged $80 when my tab was $62... go figure. Now I have to make a call and get it straightened out. I hope I get to speak with someone besides the manager that wason duty that night..

I have been a guest at LaFonds for 12 years now. The food has always been outstanding and consistant. The service good and excellent Margaritas. I have recommended Lafonds to my friends and family and will continue to do so. Thanks for the best mexican restaurant in the twin cities. I love the sports bar Cantina on the lower level.

I have heard that this place is a big gathering place for a group of swingers. This could explain the magenta bathrooms with small trashcans between the urinals filled with Trojan wrappers. The food is awful and expensive. The servers must be gold members of the swingers club because they are certainly not interested in working there.

We went to La Fonda last week over the lunch hour for a friend's birthday. Heard it was good food and thought it would be different from where we usually go for lunch. When calling to give them a heads up that 10 people would be heading over, the person who answered the phone sounded very disinterested and bored, but that didn't deter us!\r\n\r\nUpon arriving, they had a table set up for us and the server was nice. However, she didn't tell us that sour cream and guacamole would cost extra. We inquired and she said it was included. She also promised the birthday girl ice cream, but never delivered it. The food was okay - I tried the Loborrito, but wasn't impressed with the watery sauce. My fellow diners were not impressed either. Plus, there were flies buzzing everywhere which made it difficult to eat. \r\n\r\nWe won't be returning.

This place is OK. The food is OK, service is OK. I'm guessing the bar is what is keeping them in business.
My food tasted reheated. Not fresh at all.

For Mexican-American food, Boca Chica is better and worth the drive to the West Side.

Bland, bland, bland. Portions are big, sure, but if you want any zip or any authenticity (or any taste) this is not the place for you. This is the place for nice older Norwegians who like their food a pasty white color. \r\n\r\nThe service was so-so. The ambience was forgettable and non-offensive. \r\n\r\nThere was plenty of parking though.

My brother was in town from Okalahoma and wanted some good Mexican food, so we decided to try this place. Bad choice! The food was just so-so and the service was worse. When I asked our waiter what a chili relleno was, he said something about pork and corn hash. I said ""isn't it a pepper that's breaded and fried with cheese in it?"" and he said ""no, that's a tostada"". I was confused because I'm new to that dish, but thought ""okay, he must know better since he works here."" Wrong! He came back after a couple minutes and said he had made a mistake and that I was right. That was my first clue that things weren't going to go well. On top of that, he never introduced himself, disappeared for almost our entire meal and literally threw a straw on our table from about 5 feet away when I finally flagged him down to ask for one. He never once asked if we needed anything and ignored my empty drink on the edge of the table for a long time. As far as the food goes, I had to get a side of sour cream just to add some taste to the beef burrito and chicken enchilada on my combo platter. The only decent thing we had the entire meal was an order of fried ice cream. I can't understand for the life of me why it was so busy (Friday at 6:00pm)!! Although, looking around, all I saw were white faces - no Latinos. Now I know why. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and will never go back...ever!

I haven't lived in Minneapolis that long, but if this is the ""best Mexican"" food here then i am in trouble. To put it in a nut shell, everything tasted like it was from a can. Nothing that I tasted ""homemade"". If they did infact make their food fresh then they definitely didn't get their recipes from a real Mexican. Simpily put this is mediocrity pushed of on people who don't know any better.

The service was exceptionally good -- far superior to many places Companion and I have been to in the metro area. The strawberry margarita I had was excellent. Our entrees tasted very good - brought the extra part home. the pricing of the food and drinks is very affordable -- definitely mid-level budget. We saw some large groups of 8 to 10, including several children - we were not surprised because we had read the prior reviews here beforehand. The decor was festive and bright, even in the bar area, which of course made it inviting for families to come here -- and they are clearly aiming toward the family and groups market.

Something better than the fake wannabe Mexican food at last. Its not San Diego but We have some decent effort here to replicate some taste. I went on a Saturday evening around 6. The ""on the rocks"" margaritas do the trick. Cadillac rocks. The server was friendly did a great job keeping up with the growing crowd that filtered in about 730pm, got a little busy...no big, did I mention the nice 22oz margs. Tasty. Nice portions for a big hunger with decent flavor...blows Jose, Pablos and any other mega place Ive been in MN yet. Chile Rellano was good along with the tacos. Guac was decent. Chips need some help. Even had the game on! I had time to glance and still keep the misses happy! Good job and a nice change of pace. Fair price for a fair chow. Thanks La Fonda. Ill be back!
