Changes used to be the best in the area-no more.Yesterday the stylist I had had a poor attitude, and did the least she could to assist me. She pulled my hair and it hurt...several times. The best part of a haircut is how good it all feels, not this time. Clients should also be informed if stylist is a smoker, her stinky hands in my hair turned my stomach. the cashier also told me what a deal I got because she was a level 3 stylist and usually costs more-you have to be kidding.

Most of their people are good, but they have a fairly high turnover. We go there and it is fine, but the story from the woman who checked in and was ignored even as people spoke about her not showing up is entirely credible. I would not go out of my way to go to Changes. I go because it is nearby and perfectly good enough. Sometimes they offer coffee, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they are prompt. Sometimes not.

I've never gotten anyone there whose skills were poor or who was unpleasant. I got a stylist once who whacked away and took off way more than I had asked. But it turned out to be a very good haircut--just not what I'd had in mind.

All in all they do a good job. It's familiar and comfortable and you don't have to schedule appointments too far ahead. I'll continue going, though I may check out a new place from time to time.

i went for a spa day, and left less than impressed! the service was ok, the girls acted like they would rather be else where but were stuck at work and just filling a space. i wouldn't recommend them, for the amount it cost to go you would expect a little more .

Changes is great if you enjoy being treated like a number. From the time you go in and sit down in a crowded uncomfortable waiting area, to being walked back through wall to wall people to your stylist's station. I have felt rushed and the personnel at the checkout were not friendly. It seems to be more of a 'get em in and get em out' mentality there. I got the feeling it was more about the buck than my experience. I much prefer GPatton now that I've been there. It's also in Ghent and has a funky New York/LA feel to it and the stylists are so friendly, even if you aren't their client. I'll definitely go back there.

I have been to Changes a few times for a manicure and pedicure. Each time was an extremely pleasant experience. All staff members were friendly and were ready to meet your every need. They made sure you were comfortable with magazines, water, etc. They specialize in pampering you!

I've been going to Changes for a number of years, and have experienced good and bad. Gil has been doing my color for about a year and he is excellent. He is talented, but also takes the time to listen carefully to what I want. When I go by for any other service, he always makes it a point to greet me by name.

One negative that has occured many times is that I will call ahead (maybe 10-15 minutes ahead) to make sure my appt. is running on time. The receptionist tells me that my appt. will be on time, and then, when I arrive, I wait for maybe 20 minutes.

Another problem was when I had a young, new haircutter cut my daughters hair. I requested that her hair be trimmed 1 - 2 inches, same length all around. Right away, the haircutter whacked about 3+ inches, plus the hair ended up crooked. I spoke to the "supervisor" about this, at the time, and she was very defensive. Another haircutter later commented (without knowing the history) about the bad haircut.

The check out system is inefficent, particularly at the "original" location. Frequently, there is one person working the desk and several waiting to check out. Most are paying, in addition to making a future appt., which means checking their calendar, etc.

I was excited about my upcoming spa experience when I won a free pedicure through my job. Since this was free, I decided to really splurge and pay for a 1 hour massage too. I called a week in advance to make my appt, and at that time was not told there were two separate locations. So, day of appt, I show up at the wrong location at first. Luckily, I had left my house an hour and a half before appt, so I would be sure to have plenty of time to get there early. When I got to the spa, I walked in the front of the store, and saw a desk but no one there. There were however two different staff members nearby at the time with customers. After standing there for about 4 minutes, one of them finally acknowledged me and said if I was there to check in, to go to the back. I walked to the back of the store and saw two girls standing at a register. I waited in line until they called me up. I gave them my name and then one of them said "We'll let them know you're here."
So I have a seat in the crowded waiting area, and staff members keep coming and calling other people left and right. About 15 minutes later, two other customers that are together come back to check out. (Mind you, I was still 15 minutes early for my appt, and when they came back, it was just now getting to my appt time). I heard the staff start to tell them about how the next appt was a no show, and how "this girl had just made the appt last week," and that they "couldn't believe this girl never called to cancel." Anyway, after complaining about their customer not showing for a few minutes (and loud enough for all customers in that area to hear), they proceeded to offer the two women ready to check out some massages in this girls place, as the massage therapist had no one available since she hadn't shown up. The spa itself looks very large, so I assumed at the time they were talking about someone else. The two women were taken back, and about 20 minutes later, I was still the only one left in the waiting area. It started to dawn on me that the appt they had given away and the rude girl they had been talking about was me, even though I had checked in for the massage early and had been told they would let the staff know I was here!! I went up to the counter and asked the same girls I had checked in with (and the same ones who had been talking bad about their customer not showing) how much longer it would be, as I had been waiting for half an hour, and had a pedicure scheduled for right after my massage. The girls had been busy in their own giggly conversation both when I checked in, and when I walked up to the counter this time. As soon as I gave them my name again and told them I was here for my massage, the one looked at the other and whispered "is that her?" They then even said "you checked in with us, right?" and I said yes. They both got nervous and giggly when they realized what they had done. They ran to the back, where I could not see them, and a couple minutes later came out and said "we'll take you up for your massage right away." After this, I did receive my massage quickly, but the girls never did apoligize to me or admit what they had done. The massage itself was nice, as well as the pedicure, but other small things throughout the experience also disappointed me. For one, their website specifically states that "their professionals and draping policy assures your modesty is respected at all times." During the massage, I was comfortable and kept covered the entire time, but afterward, when I was changing, another staff member just walked in on me. She didn't knock or say excuse me, just that she needed to get something out of there. Meanwhile, I was only half dressed and humiliated! Then, finally, when I went to check out (an hour later then it should have been), the man offered me no refund for what had happened to my massage appt, even though he had been standing next to the girls who made the mistake and had to have been aware of the situation. I also didn't appreciate how the staff, especially right before and after my massage, kept looking at me and whispering. I can only assume they were all telling eachother about what had happened, and if they weren't talking about me, it still wasn't professional.Once I got home, I told my husband about everything. He was angry about this, and at that time tried calling the spa to complain to a manager. He was told that no manager was on duty that night, but they took his name and phonenumber and told him they would call back in the morning. It has been 2-3 days now, and still no response from them!!
Overall, I'm very upset with the whole experience. I'd been looking foward to this for weeks, and had driven an hour out of my way (and dealt with horrible traffic) to get there in time. The staff was not friendly and did not make me feel welcome. I enjoyed my actual pedicure and massage, but have no plans to ever go back there again!

I've been going to Changes for almost 10 years, and have seen them grow by leaps and bounds over that period. Their new building is an interesting use of space, as it looks like a cottage from the front and a Manhattan-esque loft from the back, but the interior flows smoothly. I've had my hair and nails done periodically, as well as special treat massages and a makeup session for a special event. Their staff is skilled and welcoming, and they seem to pay attention to all the little details that make a difference - lemon in the ice water, soothing music, flattering lighting. I've tried a number of their stylists, and although I was happy with my hair overall, was thrilled when I found THE ONE. The pampering, although a little high, is worth the expense.

PROS: an all around luxurious experience
CONS: pricey

I have gotten my hair cut, styled, colored, and eyebrows waxed here. Very professional atmosphere. They love to make you feel at home by offering you cookies, tea, or coffee during your visit. I have never had any complaints with thier work. They do have a day spa that I have heard wonderful things about, but have yet to get to try it! Thier prices vary dependant upon the stylist you use, but thier prices are very good for the quality work they do.
