Good place to grab a bite, a bit to busy at times but I guess that's because they have good food!

I live in the neighborhood so I go to steuben's quite a bit. I usually prefer to go for happy hour for cheap sliders and beers. Big complaint is that they only have beer cans and bottles, nothing on tap. The sliders are the best deal there

I'm not going to disagree with most of the reviews; this is an excellent place for the most part. But along with my praise, I have a couple of quibbles.

Steuben's has one of the best Brunches in town, so why not include at least a limited breakfast menu for the rest of the week? Denver is a breakfast kind of town and there are lots of places that serve Breakfast every day, all day. Steuben's should think about it.

I've seen Steuben's on a couple of 'Best Burger' lists for Denver; in my opinion it isn't. It is a good sized burger with excellent meat, but they slather it with some sort of Mickey D's 'secret sauce' that turns it into goo before you are done. If I wanted all that on the burger I'd order it. My suggestion is to make it a side.

The fried chicken is excellent, but, another quibble; one way I test a restaurant is to see how they handle special requests. I do not like white meat and routinely order all dark meat. Steuben's won't even consider it; they have a set way (drumstick, wing, thigh, breast) and that is that. It is very good even but come on! even Popeye's and KFC let you order all dark meat. But it comes with great mashed potatoes and gravy (the gravy is in a side dish and it already has a 'skin' on it, but it's still super) and one of the best biscuits you'll find in town.

I'll keep going back, but I wish they'd fix a few things. Service, ambiance, price, are all excellent and overall the food is outstanding.

Steuben's is a great place to go when you miss your mom's home cooking. I have never had a bad meal there. The truck stop chocolate cake is decadent and worth every calorie. I typically get it to go because I have eaten such a big dinner. They need to work on bringing out all of your food at one time. On several occasions they would bring out the fries well after the burger was brought out. I like my fries with the burger, this is a timing issue in the kitchen they need to work on.

Once upon a time, Steuben's had great vegetarian and vegan menus. They dropped those over a year ago and have had only one decent vegetarian dish since then -- the vegetarian chili relleno. Non-vegetarians seem to like Steuben's food, but having only one solitary vegetarian dish can be pretty monotonous.

Their service is usually average to below average, but can dip down to awful. Yesterday, I ordered my vegetarian chili relleno the same time that my friends ordered their various dishes. The server brought out their dishes and said mine would be right out. The server didn't bring out anything for me until my friends were finishing up their meals, and he had the wrong dish! Some chicken thing. Worse, he insisted that I had actually ordered the chicken thing and didn't back down until my friends all also told him he was wrong. Then he tried to talk me into accepting the chicken thing instead of getting the right dish.

$36 for top shelf - 3 drinks..huge let-down. Less than a sincere greeting by the host who said it would be ok to drink at a table, just don't hang out for hours..."the place gets busy". We took his suggestion and bolted to more welcoming establishments on 17th.

The "pudding cup" martini was aptly named by another in the party...wish I could take credit for that one.

The word ??cayenne? can often signal intense heat, but in this case, the spice was just right, and the etouffee excellent. Everything from the shrimp to the sausage to the chunks of tomato in the broth were flavorful. Steubens is most often known for their amazing lobster roll, and I would still say it is the best thing on that menu, but this should not be overlooked, particularly on a cold day.

I was told this was the best place to go for a late night out. I got the monty cristo and fries The monty was small and the fries should have been cooked a little while longer. I was shocked when the bill came. I guess thats the price you pay for a trendy place.

Went for the first time today. Reviews were very good so I gave it a shot. After looking over the menu decided on a hot dog. What can you expect from a dog right? Anyways if you want to follow the crowd and blow some cash this is your place.

Steuben's is a great brunch spot for all the right reasons - a diverse selection of interesting brunch choices, great coffee, friendly service, and a buzzy, bright atmosphere. I love that the restaurant decor feels so hip and cool and mod, but so many of the people who roll in for brunch (including me) look like they just fell out of bed after a really late night. It's like having a late breakfast in your really cool friend's really cool house. I have had pancakes (great) and a bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese (great great). The food is all really fresh, very tasty, best ingredients, and brought straight to your table when ready. They use high quality breads, have good cappucino and lattes, and you can tell they really care about the quality of the food they put out. Haven't been here for dinner yet but will look forward to going. The atmosphere is so nice and relaxed.

The vintage decor is very cool. This place is kinda small and they don't have much space for you to wait. The food is good, we sat at a high top table which was neat. The drinks were also good. Very attentive staff! I would recommend this place to friends and family.

I had a great burger here but the menu has much more. Fries are served in paper in a can and are delicious. It's a great lunch place with terrific decor and is kid and vegetarian friendly.

This is a classy restaurant with a large and varied menu. The restaurant has an extensive take out operation that really fits the downtown residential neighborhood it is located in.

Comfort food at a comfortable price in comfortable seats, with comfortable servers in comfortable clothes who are comfortable with their straightness .
The portions are generous (except for the salads - let's make it a MEAL, kids), and I'm partial to the meatleaf. I was also partial to the bbq beef brisket - so It was perfect.

Try the baked meatballs, try the shrimp & grits, try the greek salad, try the burger, try the skirt steak.I would recommend to anyone or everyone.

We make Steuben's a destination for their fabulous Monte Cristo sandwich! Perfect for brunch, lunch or dinner and well worth the drive, even from southwest Littleton!

I was in Steubens for the first time last Tuesday night and absolutely loved it! The bartender (Courtney, I think?) suggested the meatloaf special and it was really good. My husband got the trout which was also amazing. The atmosphere was great and everyone that worked there seemed really nice. Parking was a little hard to find but it wasn't that big of a deal. I can't wait to go back!

I went to Steuben's with my wife on Thursday night to get some dinner because a friend had recommended it. We normally like to sit at the bar when we go out because we feel you get better service, but when we got to Steuben's that night we didn't find the half dressed, butt hanging out bartenders to our taste. seemed a little trashy. Anyways, we got a table and it took about 15 min to get our drinks which seemed to be because the bartenders were to busy partying. Our food was great! Loved the gravy fries! Service was also good although they seemed a little flustered. Overall I think we will come back just not at night during party time.

I have eaten countless times at Steubens--their dishes are creative (although almost too complicated on some) and good quality. I recommend their plain egg sandwiches or the french toast (although the caramel sauce is a bit over the top--I would suggest getting it on the side) for breakfast. Their burgers, pork chops, grilled vegetables and chicken are all superb--perfectly cooked, fantastic quality--down to the sandwich buns which are superb quality. I would suggest that they branch out from shredded iceburg lettuce to at least a Romaine on their sandwiches, however--it does not do them justice. A downside is that most dishes come without a side included, except for some of the entrees, and these can run you a few dollars a piece--but all are great, from the roasted vegetables to the homemade biscuits, to the excellent fruit cups and their long, thin French fries. The food is a little pricey, but it is good quality--this is not your local greasy spoon. Alcholic beverages are also steep although the bar area is a great place to relax after work or to wait for your table (usually there are not long waits even though the restaurant is usually packed). Their desserts are pretty good-from the butterscotch pudding to the (slightly too sweet) coconut cake. I haven't had the brownie a la mode, but it looks ridiculously good! The service is always friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is great--retro/funk with comfortable seating (including patio and outdoor seating on 17th) and there is even a free (albeit small) parking lot. It's always clean indoors and out. My one suggestion would be that they change up their menu to offer more variety and healthier options--most items (e.g. the fried corn (yum), mashed potatoes, or items with fattening aioli spreads) are not good for the hips or the arteries. Also, I am surprised that they open at a late 10am on Sat and Sun for brunch! Overall, I heartily recommend Steubens as a great place to eat or hang.

Steuben's is a great restaurant! I love going to and experiencing the vintage Vegas style 60's decor and the food is awesome!

I'm a big fan of the Green Chile Stew. A winter favorite, I get it without the Sour Cream and instead substitute sliced Avocados to cut the heat.

The staff is great. The energy of the restaurant makes it a perfect place to go with a group of friends on a Friday night. If you are looking to take someone there for a date, I would recommend going early or on a weeknight.

having read almost all the reviews of the place I find it hard to think that most people know what they are talking about. I eat at steubens all the time, while everything everytime is not perfect I respect the fact that they try damn hard and if I have an issue they fix it. One note for all of you doubters TALK TO A MANAGER. That goes for any restaurant not just Steubens. The prices are right on the portions are more than big the food is solid and the staff is good. I feel that most of the people that complain on here are the ones that would rather be eating at a big chain that tastes the same anywhere in the world with "chefs" pouring food out of microwavable bags than support independants.

I usually visit Steuben's for my lunch break since I work in the area. Ocassionally there will be a wait but there is usually a spot at the bar for lunch. The service is always great! The waitstaff and bartenders are always friendly and outgoing, and the food is amazing. Last Tuesday I didn't have time to eat in so I called ahead for take-out. The girl behind the counter has amazingly friendly. She didn't just have my order ready, but recognized me from when I came in to eat. She introduced herself and said she'd make sure to say hi when I came in to eat next time. I got back to my office and my green chili cheeseburger was just as good as eating in. My fries were nice and hot too, since she waited until I arrived to order them from the kitchen. Nice touch!

Great servers. Nice atmosphere. That's about it.

The prices are very high for what you get. The food, nearly "bad", or at least mediocre.

My party of 4 went there on Sunday, 2/17. Not including drinks or tips, we spent $110+ and left hungry. Went on to a Thai place around the corner.

One person ordered the Lobster Roll ($21). This was the tiniest sandwich ever seen. LOL. Plus, the lobster (they said it was flown in daily) was dry and chewy. I've had much, much better even in Florida (no lobsters there either). You expect lobster to be flaky & buttery. This was chewy. I doubt it was "fresh".

Another had the shrimp po-boy and complained it smelled fishy. As anyone who has lived on the coast knows, fish/shrimp only smell fishy when they get old, or go bad (maybe fried in old oil?). The shrimp was tough to boot.

One appetizer, the calamari had almost no calamari in it. They were the tiniest little rings. We actually dug into the appetizer with our forks to FIND the calamari. It's mainly onions and olives in a vinegary sauce. Not worth the price. They also need either descriptions or a picture on the menus.

The macaroni? Tastes exactly like the Stouffer's frozen entree in the grocery store. Hush puppies - in sugar? For $3, we got three golf ball-sized hush puppies, covered in sugar. (???). Also not worth $3, let alone the fact it was covered in sugar - and listed as an appetizer, not a desert. Maybe they do these different in the West?

Trout Almondine. One member liked the trout, but picked off the olives. Said the sauce was vinegary. Who expects green olives when they order trout with almonds?

All in all, probably a nice place to meet for a drink. Maybe for lunch, if you know what you are getting. Otherwise, avoid. Bland food, extremely small portions, and high prices for the amount you get. No value here. Nothing seemed fresh either.

That's sad, because it's a nice place, nice atmosphere (even great music) and good drinks.

I have never in my life written something like this, but for some reason I felt like I had to. I go to Steuben?s for lunch maybe once every two weeks, and I sit at the bar and order a sandwich or burger for something fast. I have never had a bad experience there, and I?ve gone in since they opened. I think they are a great addition to the neighborhood. However, I decided to take my wife there for dinner one night, do to that fact that I take a lunch break there and she hasn?t had a chance to go with me. Everything started off great, we were kind of celebrating. But we did not get any service for maybe 20 minutes, and I say that lightly. When our drinks came I asked our server her name, and for the life of me I wish I remember what it was. It was something like Alison or Ally. She brought us the completely wrong drinks, and when I tried to get her attention she just stood there by the bar joking with her friends. Finally she came back and I told her that it wasn?t right. She looked at us and said ?nope that?s what you ordered.? It was very condescending. We shrugged it off and went on with the meal, and got what we wanted the next time around. The food was really good and I had no complaints. I did have a problem with the way we were treated by our server. After another 20 minutes she was no where to be seen. To me it seemed that she was more interested with sitting at the bar and talking to friends than us. I have never been treated with such disrespect in a restaurant. The only thing that made me not walk out was the busser that filled our waters, because that was the only service we got. I will go back for lunch but I will never go back for dinner. My wife thought I was insane to take her to a place where no on cares. Sorry Steuben?s, I hope it was just a one time thing, I?ll try back in a few months.

Went for my birthday with 12 friends. They made a special exception and let my husband make a reservation for such a big party. The drink selection was great, and everyone loved their food. The only bad part is that we were all too full for dessert. The final bill was amazingly cheap for such a large group - this place is fun.

I love this place! The food is always consistently tasty (thanks to owners from Boston who know good food), the service is great, the patio is nice and the hash browns at brunch are fantastic. Steuben's never lets me down - great neighborhood restaurant without the fuss. Try the philly cheesesteak or cheesy brocolli too.

Love the food - hate the service. Went in on a Monday night for food and fun and ended up with great food and poor service - at the bar. The bartender acted as though he did not want to serve us and could not be bothered with us. I was upset because I choose to go there and then felt bad that we were rushed and never given last call for food or drinks. We wont be back any time soon.

Steuben's is such a great place! The food couldn't be better and the atmosphere is very fun! I have only been for lunch a few times and have avoided the huge wait. I will definitely come back for brunch and dinner. I have tried something different each time and then take bites of my friends' meals as well and this place is too good not to try! The hardest part is deciding what to have!

My friends and I dined at Steuben's a few weeks ago before a concert and I was amazed!! Great atmosphere and energy. The staff was great. Luckily for me We went on a Tuesday night when the Meatloaf is the special. (we had a 40 min wait even with reservations). Since this was my first visit I wasn't sure what to expect but I need not worry. I ordered the Meatloaf with potatoes and gravy and it rocked. I wish I could have the recipe!! The four of us shared a bite of each others orders and everything was awesome. We ordered the crab cakes, fries, Meatloaf, grilled cheese, chocolate shake and chowder....all fantastic. My friend ordered the green beans and they were buttery but too salty for me.
I am bringing my husband on Tuesday and you know what I will be ordering...well maybe I'll try the fried chicken and he can order the meatloaf. Keep up the great work

The decor is really cool, the people watching is excellent, and the service is very friendly. I really want to love this place, but the food is just not quite good enough. On Saturday, my husband ordered huevos rancheros, and there was no green chile (or sauce of any kind) on his eggs. His dish totally lacked flavor. I have had some good items, like the eggs benedict (which had excellent hollandaise), but too often, menu items just lack oomph. It's almost like they forget to put in some of the ingredients. Like I said, I really want to love this place and, more than anything, I hope the owners (who also own the wonderful Vesta Dipping Grill) read this and really consider revamping the flavors in some of their dishes (or maybe they need to improve quality control in the kitchen). The fun atmosphere will get me back into the restaurant, and if the food gets better, I will be back often.

I came with my young daughter around noon this morning to enjoy a Sunday brunch. We originally were seated promptly (much to my surprise, there usually is a wait on Sundays) outside. It was a little chilly for my daughter, and the hostesses were more than friendly getting us moved inside, unlike the usual snotty people I see at other restaurants. We were seated up front, which is very nice, you get to see the game and a view of outside through giant garage doors. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly - he made sure there was always water on the table - a plus for thirsty people! He also checked in to make sure our food was good, which I always enjoy in staff - that they actually care.

I had the crab cake eggs benedict, which, in a word, is INCREDIBLE. I am from the East Coast and am generally disappointed with Colorado fish dishes, but this tasted fresh from the sea. A little pricey, but well worth the money! I also had a bloody mary - very flavorful and fairly priced. I am always impressed by the items on the kids menu - a perfect portion that tastes good - it is clear care is still put into kid's meals - and my daughter is more than excited about getting a cupcake. Steuben's has an amazing staff - I've been here several times now and never had a less than stellar experience. Even once, when my eggs were cold, it was promptly taken care of with apologies from the waiter and the manager. On the way out, the hostesses always inquire has to how the meal was, and say goodbye very sincerely, even when they appear very busy. It is clear that the staff here loves their jobs in the way they work with the eating public, which is great to see in such a popular restaurant. I can't wait to bring my family in over Thanksgiving to enjoy such an enjoyable meal.

Wow... this place rocks, eh? Well you'd think so. It's a great place for inexpensive dining, but the food doesn't live up to visual expectations you'll surely have. Many say "it's like Mom's cooking"... I say "I'm glad I didn't grow up in your house".

The physical building is sweet. The staff is friendly and the service is great... the food is average. I've been numerous times... and always the same outcome... average food leaving me wanting more.

Most people will love this place and be satisfied... just keep your expectations in check.

I drive by Steubens all of the time, always think about stopping in because it looks cool and busy, but I haven't had the time. So when my friends called me last Sunday and invited me out to dinner, I gladly accepted. When we arrived we were greeted by the manager, Sean. He took us to a booth right in front of the two huge garage doors in front. It was perfectly located, we felt like we were outside but still received the benefit of the AC. We started out with Deviled eggs, Crab Cakes, and Mussels all excellent. Our server, I think it was Liza, answered all of our many questions with ease and confidence, she was awesome. I was pleasantly suprised to find that Chicken Fried Steak was on the menu, with okra, no less. I'm from Texas so I know my CFS, and theirs was right on the mark. The rest of the group had Fried Chicken, Braised Short Rib, Cheeseburger & Fries, and Etouffee. All were top notch. Sean came by to check on us, I wasn't suprised to find that he was also from Texas, there had to be some longhorn influence on that Chicken Fried Steak. We were soooo full, but Sean sent out a couple of desserts, for us to welcome us, who he called "Steubens Rookies." We found room and thouroughly enjoyed the butterscotch pudding with nilla wafers and coconut cake. Overall, a great experience, I can see why they are always busy. If you are from Texas you MUST go try their Chicken Fried Steak, it will take you back.

I have such a hard time going here without ordering the fried chicken! I consider myself to have a sophisticated palate but the good home cooking here is hard to resist!

Just about everything we have ordered here has been outstanding! The fried chicken is to die for, the mac and cheese is just like my grandmother makes, and the biscuits and gravy tops it off. If you are looking for something a little lighter you can order an awesome trout almondine or baked chicken.

the atmosphere is a charming retro diner. The building used to be a garage so the entire street front can be opened up during good weather. The little porch outside is a great place to dine on a nice day also. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the steak and that was mainly because it was so thin they couldn't cook it as rare as I like it even after 2 tries. The steak was a daily special and I noticed they had taken it off the menu last time I was there.

We have eaten here a half dozen times and every experience has been great! Even when my steak was overcooked they had no objection to bringing me a new one. I have seen a few reviews about the price but we have never found our meal to be expensive. Fantastic restaurant right downtown, give it a try!

It is difficult for me to dine out. Having a pretty bad gluten allergy kind of makes me hesitant to put my health in other people?s hands. But last evening a friend of mine pleaded with me to join him for a late dinner to celebrate his promotion. He suggested Steubens. I had never heard of the place before and when I walked in I instantly liked the place. The place has a chic design and pulls it off without being too ?young? feeling. The menu is awesome too -- all down-home good ol? American grub. Probably the best part of the night was our service though. When I started inquiring about which dishes might be gluten-free, my server actually took my menu away from me (which seemed weird at first) and returned with a gluten-free menu. He explained that the chef created allergy-free menus for nearly ten different common allergies. This really impressed me. And the rest of the night went on like this. The patio was lovely, the food unbelievable (try the skirt steak!), and the service impeccable. It seems that there is finally a place in Denver that knows that dinner is more then just food and service is more than just a full glass of water.

Having just moved to Denver, my friends recommended Steuben's as a great place to get a drink and some good food. Stopped in for some appetizers and a few drinks and was generally treated like an alien.

When we asked for a table, mentioned we were there for the beans (which came highly recommended), we were practically scoffed at and given rude, bewildered looks. Seated near the back, our server continued to talk down to us and treat us as if we had the plague the entire time. From the sarcastic tone of voice, rude looks, and sideways glances from across the restaurant, I've never felt more unwelcome in any place before. If we'd merely occupied a table for a side dish or two and spent an undue amount of time there I could understand, but we ran up a fairly good check, especially for a slow afternoon.

Despite the service, the food was quite good. A couple things really stood out: the smoky pork and beans are some of the best I've had; the fries were crisp and tasty, along the lines of good pomme frites, especially with a side of gravy.

Drinks were interesting and, in some cases, original. Try the Cherry Cola.

Would I recommend it to other people new to the area? No, probably not, unless there was nowhere else to go.

We went here on a whim and were surprised there was no wait. As others have mentioned, the parking situation is not too good. The menu is very unique, which I liked. Although, there is no trend to their food. It's almost as if you've raided someone's pantry, and you make dinner with what they have. The fries as an appetizer are awesome. I had the etouffee, which was fair. The root beer float is great, one because they actually have one, and two because it comes with premium root beer. Service was pretty good, although it became difficult to keep our water glasses full. I would return.

I don't mean to cause a fight, but the last review was WAY OFF!!! Lets break this down...I went to Marczyx, the great grocery store in my neighborhood and a block down from Steuben's, sells live Maine Lobsters for $13 a pound. I asked how much actual meat you get out of a one pound lobster and they told me MAYBE 4 oz. On my last visit to Steuben's, I asked and they get in 1 and 1/4 pound lobsters to make the lobster rolls and put 4 to 5 oz of meat in them. Lets do the math... 1 and 1/4 pound lobster is around $17.60. I also know that Steuben's has to import in the correct roll from the eastcoast (anyone who knows, knows you have to get the right roll or it just lobster on a hot dog bun). I'm no restaurant person, but I can guess that is not cheap to do, we'll say a dollar a bun. Now someone has to cook, and de-shell those lobsters, I know that is not cheap, we'll say 15 minutes of time and effort at $8 an hour, so that $2.10. Lets add that up; 17.60 + 1.00 + 2.10 = $20.70. That dose not include the sauce they put on it or ANY sort of profit. Basically, they are not making any money to serve you the only good lobster dish in Colorado (in my opinion). The menu price of the lobster roll is $18 and the fries which are al carte are $3. This place is the best and I am very excited to have the lobster roll back after the management took it off because the price for lobsters was way to high, but I still would have paid more a this wonderful taste of the east coast.

I disagree with uncledave 100%. Both Steubens as well as Vesta are great. Like every restaurant it has its ups and downs but what else do you expect from a place that has been open for less than a year. The food is great and done soild. The wine glasses.... oh well request a regular one, you can see them lined up behind the bar. I go to steubens pretty often and I have always left happy (and a little full). I recommend the place to everyone I talk to. Not just for the scene or its vibe but for the food. I only wish I got to Vesta more often.

Ok, I've been here several times. Only once was my idea. After that I was dragged along kicking and screaming by people who think this is the greatest place in town. Well, I agree with a lot of other reviewers who don't get it. I have never had a meal that was anything better than just ok and several that had to be sent back - nothing like ice cold mashed potatoes and glue gravy. Service can be really iffy when they're busy, and the prices are certainly not like the "diner" they're supposed to be. I'm also in the camp of not wanting my wine served in a kid's juice glass. Probably should have known better than ordering a bottle of wine in a place like this anyway - shame on me. This place, like the owners' other restaurant Vesta Dipping Grill, seems to survive on their "cool/hip" vibe. It sure as heck isn't the food at either place.

Steuben's has some rockin' fried chicken and the Eggs Benedict is good for brunch- also check out the fried corn on the cob - YUM! Great atmosphere and service. The patio is large and heated, too.

Pros: Fried chicken, drinks, ambience

Cons: Parking can be tricky if the lot is full

I had heard a lot of good things about Steuben's but my husband and I live in the 'burbs and just don't make it downtown too often, however we recently went downtown on a Friday morning for business and decided to check out Steuben's and I' m so glad we did!!! The food is fantastic and I love the retro diner feel. We were seated immediately and we were served promptly and the server was very friendly and attentive. I had the pulled pork sandwich (Yum!) and fries and my husband had the fried chicken which I tasted. The food was excellent. I dipped my fries in his gravy, to die for!!! You can order gravy fries as an appetizer but we chose the deviled eggs and they were delicious!!! This is comfort food to the max!!! I have not been there in the evening but I am hoping to come back for dinner sometime in the near future. The only downside was I had a Mimosa and it was pretty expensive for the size of the drink. Also I can see where parking could be a major issue here. We got a parking place just fine, but it wasn't that busy when we got there. When we left the parking lot was full. Otherwise, I hope Steuben's will be around for a long time to come. It is awesome!
