Great food if you can get it
I love Dim Sum and had multiple people say this was the place to go. So inspite of two bad experiences, I gave it a third and final try.
The food here is wonderful. The selection of Dim Sum is really quite large and everything I tried was perfectly prepared.
The problem is the service. From the time you enter the hostess ignores you and unfortunately, sets the tone for the rest of the meal. The servers pass your table without a backwards glance (especially if you are in the raised area in the front of the restaurant or the back corner of the side room). So you see the wonderful food but can't get any. Then the hostess again comes to glare at you for taking up table space and not eating anything...

Dim Sum Good but Service Poor
The Dim Sum used to be the best, there is another nearby competition that has surpassed them in that department but I still have a place in my heart for the restaurant because my cousin had his reception there and it was great. That said, I haven't been really impressed with the place in the past year and haven't returned in about six months.

Camil
It has been about 2 years since I last visited Cathay House. My family and I used to purchase lunches and dinner's from them for several years before that. However, the last time that I called in my food order (the normal routine that my family did about every other week) who ever answered the phone was real rude and sharp with me. I was not used to this behavior because like I said my family had eaten at their restaurant about every other week for years. As I was about to place my order the person on the line stated very aggresively, "Are you going to order or not! We're very busy!". I was so upset with the service I received that I simply hang up the phone and went down the street to Joyful House Chinese Cuisine to purchase my food. I then decided that perhap's they were just having a bad day and to give them another chance so I took a friend their to eat several months later. During the lunch hour I can understand they were busy, but to get little to no acknowledgement was flat out ridiculous. That was the last time that I visited my long time favorite Chinese restaurant.

Okay but expensive
We had take out there because they were close to our house.. The chow mein was noodles and not cabbage so that was weird.. The second time we tried other stuff .. Not your average type of Chinese food. But just okay

Empty Parking Lot
I travel almost every day of the week and eat at restaurants throughout the US. I have a good eye for good and bad restaurants. Wasnt sure about this one had a weird feeling. Didn't bother pulling in, No cars in the parking lot (Bad Sign). After reading other reviews just conformed my suspicions of the place.
Thank you Citysearch
Pros: plenty of parking
Cons: bad reviews

Don't Eat Here
Don't use the coupon. I followed the directions to present coupon with bill, then was told I could not use it to pay for my appitizer. They said they would give me a cheaper appitizer for me to take out. The restaurant was almost empty when I got there. The word must be getting around, "Don't eat here."
Pros: You can eat quickly since no one else is eating here
Cons: They try to rip you off on your bill

lousy service, billing fraud
Relocated from San Jose to Las Vegas about a year ago, I have been looking for a really good dim sum place. I read the reviews on citysearch (and noted the wrong billing issue) and decided to give it a try. The first time I was there, the food was terrible and the service was lousy. When we were done, the waiter came by the table and tabulated right at the table how much the bill will be. When he gave the bill back to me, I saw an extra check mark by the special (most expensive) dim sum item and questioned why, he was startled that I caught that and tried a very lame excuse and removed the extra charge. Not wanting to make rush judgement about the food and their dishonesty, we decided to come back the second time. The food was a little bit better (not great) and when the bill came, guess what happened? Same thing happened as last time, the bill came back from the waiter with one extra check mark on the special item. I got so sick of it, went up to the cashier (i think she's also the restaurant manager/owner) and told her the problem, she pretended to not knowing anything and said "i'm just cashier, i don't know anything". I , Hmm, I didn't know "just a cashier" can yelled and been telling all the staff in the restaurant what to do. Anyway, I think the whole restaurant staffs are all in on cheating the customers by charging them for something they didn't order. I don't mind paying higher price for dimsum, but try to steal money by charging customers for something they didn't order is just plain DISGUSTING! I've been telling my friends about this place and we will NEVER NEVER visit it again.
Pros: Not a single thing
Cons: Very lousy service, dishonest billing practice, food are not that great.

dim sum
I have always eaten at Cathay House, every since I was six years old, and now I am twenty. I bring a lot of my friends and family here. The service was never great, but my latest visit was ridiculous. It took forever just to get our water and tea. My boyfriend asked for a Coke and did not receive it until 20 minutes later. After we were finished eating, we had to wait for the bill for at least half an hour. We had to ask for our to-go box three times! My bill said it was sixteen dollars and some change, but for some strange reason when I paid it was twenty dollars. I asked him why the amount changed and the cashier said, "I dont know why, I'm just the cashier." Terrible service. My family and friends will never be returning to this place.
Pros: nothing
Cons: Bad customer service, dirty dinnerware and false billing

Be careful and check your bill at Cathay house
The dim sum is good here but be careful when you get the bill. My friends went there for dim sum and when they got the bill, someone at the restaurant added several stamps to make the bill higher. When my friend confronted them, they took off the items. Then, we were there and they overcharged us for two large dim sum items that we did not order. We told them and they apologized for the mistake. Seems like too much of a coincidence. Just be careful and count your dishes and make sure that is what you are charged for. If not, go to Chan's or Orchid's. Their food is good too and I've never had an issue with the bill,
