The black truffle oil mayo that's been there recently is amazing to say the least. Outside of that, the starchy double fried fries are delicious. Yum!

Used to be super fresh fries with killer dips. Nothing lets you know they're fresh more than the flats with paper bags full of potatoes that are stacked out front every morning. Latest excursion was OK.

I hope noone else made the mistake that I made. I purchased a deal for Pommes Frites with Buywithme. I paid $10 for $22 worth of fries in the form of two coupons worth $11 each. I printed the coupons and wrote my name and address on

$5.5 for a small (which should be more than fine even if you share) including 1 topping...
VERY good selection of toppings..
The place however is very small and not so clean to the eye...

Pommes Frites in the E. Village is TINY, so don't walk past it. (Shouldn't be difficult to accomplish, considering there is a line out the door about 90% of the shop's opening hours.) Frites come in three sizes - I always get a Regular size, it's sharable, trust me. The real fun, though, is the sauce menu. It's like a Baskin-Robbins 31 flavors! Personal favs include:
rosemary garlic mayo, sweet mango chutney mayo and believe it or not, good ol' fritessaus (which is one of a few free toppings you can opt for).

Friends and I have concluded that the mayo-based sauces are best. (Sorry non-mayo lovers, you are fresh out of luck.) Stay away from the cheeses and ketchups, they are just plain boring compared to most of these other homemade concoctions. Hail Canada - they have Poutine too! Next on my list to try.

Pros: Many "flavors", fries made fresh

Cons: LONG lines, tiny space to eat

I have been a loyal customer for years. I always thought their fries were the best in the city. However, I recently went there and was horrified. The fries were disgusting. They were extremely oily, tasted terrible and the smell of them actually sickened me. The sauces were also horrible. When I first walked in, I should have known better. I saw that there were new workers and I thought the potatoes looked odd. I remember them having some of the skin on them. I went ahead and ordered two doubles along with the mango chutney sauce, cheddar cheese and curry ketchup. When I got outside to my car, my family could not wait to dig in. Well, what a disappointment. We all thought the fries were too greasy and the sauces without flavor. I think they are using substandard potatoes and oil. I hope they go back to how they use to be. $25 later, we threw everything out. The smell was actually making us sick in the car.

I have been a loyal pommes frites customer for years but I believe in the last year there was a change in owners and the flavors have not been the same. The fries are now super oily and the sauces are less flavorful. My usual sauces are the mango chutney and the tomato basil. Considering the price of fries here are not cheap I really expect a non oily fry. Hopefully they get back to the way they used to be.

The fries are just amazing! Easily the best in nyc. It's better to order to go though, since it's a very small shop with not many tables.

...Pomme Frittes will suffice! The selection of dipping sauces is unsurpassed and the fries themselves can't be beat. They're about as genuine as you'll get this side of the pond. Come prepared to stand or carry out.

Drunk - Pommes Frittes is awesome.
Sober - Go somewhere else

Pommes Frittes is one of those late night spots to get some fried goodness after a long night of drinking.. you dont notice the lines, you dont taste anything due to the all the alcohol you drank. except you think its awesome. I went one night with a few of my friends. and was really excited to get some pommes frittes .. and I wasn't really thrilled. Their sauces are good, yes, but the fries themselves are not tasty at all.. they're very bland and nothing to rave about. But if you're out of town give it a try. Thats what the experience is all about.. waiting on that long line, and sitting next to some strangers crowded in that hole in the wall fast food joint.

Walking up to the spot the line outside was intimidating. Even though it was long it moved quite quickly. The sauces were worth the wait. Great place to go after you leave a club or lounge just for a snack at 1am.

What else can I say? The fries are made fresh. Not fresh from a frozen package, but fresh as in the potatoes are cut right in front of you. The staff is friendly and efficient. They try to make the wait as short as possible without being pushy and they let you sample the sauces. As for the sauces, try them all. I have yet to come across a bad one. Nothing beats walking through the village, hangin with friends eating a cone of fries! It does get crowded and seating is limited, but don't let that stop you from going! Its soo worth it!

I was so excited to actually get to visit after seeing this location on the Food Network, but was greatly disappointed!! The fries were terrible (i have had frozen fries that were better). Forget about trying to sit down and eat unless you want to sit on a strangers lap. Staff isn't very helpful with menu either. Save your money and go to the golden arches.

They'll be a wait for the fries at Pommes but defnitely worth it. The fries are regular type of fries (kind of greasy but aren't most?) but my 4 stars goes to the different type of sauces. We had our fries with the Mango sauce and it was delicious! I would recommend this place for a quick snack on the go.

The fries at pommes frites are so delicious! They have 3 or 4 sizes, the largest being about 7$ and it is enough to feed 3 people. The dipping sauces are what really make it delicious. They have so many different flavors of dipping sauces. Try the horseradish mayo. Its more like a salad dressing consistency that mayo. Each of the sauces cost 75 cents, so if you go with a group of people get a few different flavors to try. It is a tiny place, mabye enough seats for 10 people, so be prepared to stand or take your frites elsewhere.

I was so anxious to go to Pommes Frites after reading the rave reviews about the fries. So in Sep. 2007, I finally went to the East Village after years of visiting the area. The place is so tiny, I walked 4 blocks past it. Then I turned around and walked back the opposite way and found it. Oh Brother! what a disappointment. I should have kept on walking, right down the subway steps!

The lady behind the counter let me try a few tries for free with 4 sauces. I had the pineapple sauce, teriyaki, garlic and mango. I ended up liking the mango and pineapple sauces.I then ordered the small cone of fries. They were already fried and she fried them again in what looked like a wok filled half way with oil. I had the order to go. As I was walking down the street towards the subway, I started to eat the fries dipped into the sauces. The sauces were so good, I couldn't believe that I didn't miss ketchup. It actually tasted so much better than ketchup. Now the reason why I give the place a low rating is because the fries taste like nothing. They are really no big deal. They just taste like plain white potatoes that are over-fried and kind of greasy. It's the sauces that are a big deal. Actually Burger King's and Wendy's fries taste better and cost a lot less.
Even frozen Ore Ida fries have way more flavor.

Pommes Frites--overhyped!!

As avid travelers and lovers of frites in Europe, we couldn't wait to try Pommes Frites in NYC. We saw a profile on the Food Network of Pommes Frites a few years ago which made it look so fantastic. Wow, was it ever overrated!

Authentic pommes frites in Europe have a clean and crispy taste - these fries/frites tasted like they were fried in dirty oil that needed to be changed days ago. Also, their fritessaus (euro mayo) was old and spoiled tasting. We shared a medium size and didn't even remotely finish it. Maybe we just weren't drunk enough?!?

This place has great French Fries! We have been here at least 4 times and love going back. This is where we like to bring kids and other french fry fanatics who visit NYC. One downside is they recently increased the price of sauces...you used to be able to get one free sauce with every order and now you have to pay for all of them. It's worth it though. Yummy!

Ive tried Frites in germany and in amsterdam. This is just like what i had when i was there. The sauce selection is amazing , and the ones that I have tasted have all been excellent. Also you can try all the sauces before you buy something which is great . The poutine which was something my partner loved and i was new to trying was absolutely mouth watering. On top of that its inexpensive, and its open late. The only thing that i would say is a con would be that there isn't alot of room to sit .

I was really looking forward to trying this place out since I love fries and had read a lot of good reviews on it. Unfortunately, it was such a big disappointment. I don't know if we went on a bad day or not but the fries weren't good at all. They were quite soggy and the number of sauces that we tried weren't very good either...especially the curry ketchup one...which in my opinion was pretty gross. I was expecting so much more from this place and thought that I could have gotten the same fries (or even better ones) at any other random place out there.

I might be slightly biased but I consider fries in Amsterdam to be the best there are, but I have to admit that Pommes Frites does a really amazing job. The fries are made just like in the Netherlands or Belgium and they ever serve the Dutch Remia Frites Saus. Besides that, they have a wide varitey of sauces which you would never find anywhere but here, but at least they are original flavors.
The greatest thing is that they are open late.. who wouldn't want some amazing fries as a midnight snack?

These have got to be some of the best french fries and the sauces are fantastic. Vietnamese pineapple was surprisingly our favorite. We also had the dill mayo and sun dried tomato mayo which were very good. They will also let you sample any of the sauces beforehand. This is a MUST try.

I love fries and though they are not good for my hips, when I decide to indulge, I come here. The dips are so yummy. My all time favorite to get is the Poutine... but I think it's not for everyone, though I can't imagine why not.?!? Gravy and melted cheese on top of french fries? C'mon! Otherwise, I normally share a serving with a friend. They let you sample some sauces if you're not sure what you'd like. They make recommendations as well which is great! My favorites are: roasted garilc, parmesan peppercorn, vietnamese pineapple, and smoked eggplant. I never would've thought those would taste that good, but I couldn't stop dipping my fries!

We popped in to Pommes Frites on the Sunday night right after St. Patrick's Day, so the place was understandably empty and the staff there friendly and attentive. I told the guy behind the counter that I'd like to try some of the sauces, and he quickly gave us a rather large sample serving of fries (surprise! I just wanted to taste the sauce!) as well as several samples of the sauces we'd requested, along with some of his own picks. We weren't amused, so the guy patiently tried a few more sauces on us until we finally settled on two that we liked. We ordered a 'large' sized cone of frites - which was quite enough for my husband&I to share, with leftovers to take-out for munching on the way home. The fries were pretty good, but not quite uniform enough to suit me (a mix of some huge chunks plus lots of crispy crumbs). The taste was OK, but nothing to scream about. They were made-to-order right there in front of us, with my request for 'no salt' being honored, as well. The tight, cramped seating at Pommes Frites is quite a disappointment though, because that huge cone of hot fries is awkward enough to carry around - along with multiple sauces, drinks, napkins, etc - making it a precarious quest. If you are fortunate enough to snag one of the 3 tiny 'tables' in the back, be prepared for a lot of knee-bumping and other accidental contact with other patrons, as the space is incredibly tiny. All in all, if I am ever in the area, I might stop in again, as the product was not bad, and the service was certainly above-average even if the ambiance was not.

If you love fries and haven't tried this place you're missing out. It's a tiny hole in the wall where they sell JUST fries and tons of dipping sauces. Comes in small medium large and the portions are generous so 2 can share a large. They're perfectly salted and crunchy and made the old-fashioned way. Quick in and out. I once asked them how many pounds of potatoes they use in a given day and I forget the number but it was astounding. Apparently you can make a decent living off of selling french fries if they're THIS good.

Cons: Small area

the fries are delicious, and perhaps even better are the sauces. my favorites include sun dried tomato, pesto mayo, sweet mango chutney, parmesan peppercorn, and rosemary something. but i think the restaurant recently changed hands, so the portions got smaller (a "regular" is for 2 people to share, at most 3; then "large" is for for 3; and "double" is for 4--and this is assuming you're not all hungry). you also no longer get a free sauce, but DO GET ONE ANYWAY. they are 75cents each, and you won't regret it. (just ask the person at the corner to taste-test sauces, as this is free.) also, avoid going here around 3 a.m. or 4 p.m., as those are pretty busy times for this place.

Hi wow. I saw Pommes Frites featured on the Food Channel a couple years ago and happened to walk by it while with a friend going to get sushi. Naturally, I HAD to try them, and WOOOOOOW. The fries are absolutely amaaaaazing and the sauce selection is enormous. The pesto mayo and sun-dried tomato mayo are my favorites. The fries are perfectly cooked so they're nice and crunchy on the outside but soft and hot on the inside. PERFECT! Definitely bring friends along with you though, as the "small" size is still HUGE.

Pros: French Fries are incredible!

If so, you will enjoy Pomme frites. They're good for all occasions: hungover breakfast cures, late-night drinking snacks, having a beer while you're eating them . . .hm. I need to drink less. Anyway, the place has great fries and a horde of good sauces. Try 'em all!

Cons: crowded sometimes

I heard about this place for some time---so i had to go try it. I'm going to say that the fries tasted like regular fries---however, the variety of sauces that you get to choose made it really good. I am going to go back and try to other sauces. The wasabi-mayo and cheese (made it taste like cheese fries) were gooooood.

You can spend $200 on a dinner in NYC easily. Try spending $6 on an out of this world meal....at Pommes Frites. Sauces galore and quick service. There is not a line of 5 - 6 people for nothing.

This taste just like the ones in Amsterdam. Even the mayo is the same. Try the peanut satay sauce.

Pros: food, price

Cons: no parking, small eating area

.

I have to say, despite the somewhat brusque nature of the tall, bald Belgian guy behind the counter who likes to argue with me about the price of his soda (or maybe because of it,) I just cannot get enough of this place. Other fries become pointless calories in light of these spectacular creations. It's tiny, so don't expect to sit down at the meager seating- perhaps take it to the park nearby to eat. It has an astounding variety of sauces, something like 40. It's a treat to watch the staff make each batch freshly.
