I have been here twice for breakfast and once for dinner. I really like this place. I am not too attached to anything in the Inner Richmond, but this place is a keeper. Unique decorations, fast friendly service, and delicious food.

Q is a standout on Clement Street. When living in the neighborhood, I definitely enjoyed being able to go into Q and get some delicious mac & cheese.

My friend Dean and I visited this place for breakfast. His family owns a diner up in Humboldt County and so they know their stuff. Imagine their clients. I won't speak for Dean but Qs bfast was reasonably priced and had some unique choices. My favorite was the French Toast which takes the baguette breakfast to a new level. French Toasted baguette! I normally prefer a gushy sloppy oozing egg french toast, but this crunchy version was great. Lil bacon on the side and a wonderful salty sweet concoction to wake you up.

Wow! I go out to Clement street for 2 things: Pizza, and Mac & Cheese from Q. They have other great dishes here, but that one is by far my favorite. Definitely one to try if you're in the Richmond.

We usually go to Q twice a month. They always have great Beef specials and great new wines. The staff is always friendly and if their is a wait it moves pretty quickly.

Pros: good food/good service

Cons: parking

Went to Q for my boyfriend's birthday on Friday 5/2. Luckily we went there around 6:30, found a parking right outside and got our seat right-a-way. Customers came after us got to wait a bit.

He ordered burger with garlic fries & root beer float, and I have ordered mussel & risotto & a glass of house Merlot. We both love this place! All food we have ordered were tasty! His burger was not come with a slice of cheese, but a big "cube" of cheese! You know, the cube was about 1 inch thick! Maybe that's why you won't think a $8-9 dollar burger from Q is overprice.

The price for the whole meal was about $50 after tips! With different choices of food (He loves burger and I don't) and reasonable price, we will go back again.

I go San Francisco often to visit family and always make sure I head to Q while I'm there. The food is delicious, very unique meals - the kind of food that is not on your average menu. The service is top notch and the atmosphere is eclectic to say the least! To sum it all up, this what makes San Francisco the artsy and beautiful city it is. You need to check it out, you will not be disappointed.

walked in and immediately realized this was not meant to be easy on the senses. The kitchen and dishwashing area as well as the bus station are out in the open alongside the booths which are comfortable. There are schoolroom magnetic letters that I guess you can sit and occupy yourself with while making sentences up. The service was decent. We had meatloaf and fried chicken. The meatloaf was nauseating, literally, I felt sick. The fried chicken was of low quality meat and my partner had this look of incredulousness which evolved into nausea as well. Compounding this disgusting food was a clamour of dishes, yelling staff, telephones, pots, and pans..all culminating in a very grating experience that left us in need of lying down at home in the quiet for an hour. We felt sluggish and filled with grease and it really put a damper on our evening as we didn't feel like going out drinking which was our original plan. This place was horrendous.

We are 2 kids (11 & 5) Mom and Dad, Seating was prompt and the magnetic wall boards kept the kids occupied. Even the Service was better than average. But unfortunately the bottom line for me at a restaurant is the food. I ordered the Meat loaf which was dry, it was if they cooked a meatloaf then put a slice of it on the gril prior to serving. My wife ordered the Salmon and she complained about it being dry also. While the kids split a hamburger with regular fries, they served a mix of garlic fries and regular fries.

We would have liked the place if the food would be better. Sorry I can't recommend this place.

The huge wine selection is more than enough to keep you busy during the long wait for a table. Once you sit, the food is not disappointing either.

I almost tried this place for dinner one night, but opted not to after i glanced on the menu which was posted in the window.

Second time around...breakfast. My friend said their breakfasts were much better than their dinners, so I gave it a try. I ordered the chilaquiles, and a side of breakfast potatos and the french toast. I didn't finish it all but I certainly wish I could have!

They took a different spin in the chilaquiles...green sauce instead of red. Different, but tasty. As for the french toast...delicioso! Made with briche bread, and stuffed with cream cheese and topped with stramberry compote!

The decor was cute, a little funky, and the people who attended our table were very friendly and attentive, and the place. I am almost tempted to go back and give their dinner a try!

Is it the cozy atmosphere that keeps me going back to Q? No. I think the tables are seated too low. Is it the friendly wait staff? No. It's the food. I've tried a variety of items on the menu, and I have yet to be disappointed. The burgers are always a safe bet. The mac and cheese, yum. The specials are always worth trying. The chefs use a lot of creative flavor combinations. I'm a pretty picky eater, but these Calfornia-American dishes are all so tasty, comforting, and affordable. I love the fact that the Vegetarian items are colored in green on the menu. I appreciate the fact that they do carry-out... but if you haven't been, it's a good place to try out if you're looking for a real "San Francisco Experience."

I keep going back to Q even though the food and service quality varies. I do recommend Q because of its price point and atmosphere, though it's best to stick with your favorite comfort food (think macaroni and cheese or meatloaf) and stay away from any dishes that may need to be a bit more refined. The service can also be disappointing and curt . . . it's a shame too, because the staff should be part of the room's charm)

I'm amazed they're not listed on the best winelists in the city - some places are listed as wine bars and don't have 1/50th of the list, let alone the amazing prices. The food is delicious - you'll read some odd reviews of sore ex-employees that couldn't do the job so they write a bad review. it's just wrong - try it you'll like it!! I've been here many times and love the employees and owners! The staff is appropriately friendly w/ excellent food/wine knowledge. They have a wine list w/ over 200 wines all for less than $50. We had the Rubissow Sargent Cab-paid less than retail. My friend had the melt in your mouth ribs, and I had the 1/2 Chicken. The flavors in the chicken and the vegetables we're delightful. This is not fine dining - it's great dining.

I ordered the salmon burger and garlic fries which sounded great and turned out to be horrible. The salmon was very dry and they over did it on the special sauce. I suspect they did this to make up for the dry salmon. It was totally not worth the $11 dollars. My girlfriend wanted the Mac and Cheese and tater tots but it was $8, come on, thats outrageous, I can buy a multi pack of Mac and Cheese from the grocery store; what next $8 Top Rammen? There are plenty of other great restaurants on Clement St, start with those and end on Q.

Q is a great neighborhood joint. I've dined there at least 10 times and have never had a bad experience. They do not accept reservations so if you go at peak times, expect a wait. The restaurant is usually filled with locals. The staff is courteous and expeditious.

No entree is more than $14 or $15 and the wine is reasonable priced (many moderate restaurant try to 'make up' for their meal prices through overpriced wine; this restaurant does not). I've tried all the fish dishes and they are good (considering the price). They have a tendency to oversauce their entrees sometimes, but they are still tasty.

If you are expecting fine cuise, a la Michael Minna or Rubicon, you won't get it at Q, but if you are a nearby resident and want a comfy, funky, non-pretentious place to dine in the 'hood, Q is a hit.

Four of us went at 9 P.M. on a Wednesday. Waited half an hour for a table. The employees were fantastic, and so was the hamburger plus bacon and cheese. The BBQ sauce, as strange as this sounds, seemed dusty, though... and the pork tasted weird, the chicken-fried kobe beef steak tasted like a won ton, and the polenta was cold. The apple crisp was outstanding, but where was the scoop of vanilla ice cream? What's apple crisp without ice cream?!

Yum! I love this place for its fun vibe, comforting food, and excellent value. Be sure to try the beer battered catfish with garlic fries - it is out of this world! The wait for a table is usually very long (explore the rest of Clement Street while you wait!), and the host had a bit of attitude on one occasion. However, once you are seated, the great eats will make you forget about the rest.

I've been to Q several times for dinner and a handful of times for brunch and I must report that the food has always been good, but usually great. There was time I had the chicken wings and they weren't outstanding. The service is almost always terrific. They manage to be friendly and accurate even when the place is bursting at the seams. Only one time we had a very unfriendly female server. My favorite is the seared ahi tuna and the steak. The wine list is full of great values as well. And yes, they don't take reservations, but now you know in advance so be prepared to wait (and enjoy a glass of vino). My husband has only had excellent fried chicken experiences, so the other reviewers must have been there in an off night. Check it out yourself and make your own opinion.

Fried Chicken...there can be subtle nuances to it, but you'd think that a restaurant that specializes in comfort food could at least fry the chicken upon order. I went with a chef-friend who has previously had the task of making fried chicken, highself. Per his observation, the food came out way too quickly to have been cooked fresh. It was hot on the drumstick end, but the meat was tough and the center cold. Microwaved? Or fried from a prior time and quickly refried? I'll never know for sure... Additionally, the cooked vegetables that accompanied it were tepid. I would say that the highlight of this meal was the gravy that accompanied the mashed potatoes. Definitely not a meal that I would return for.

I have not had brunch here, so that may be a different matter, but with so many wonderful places in San Francisco, I would go elsewhere.

We went to Q specifically for the comfort food and thought with a 9+ rating it must be great. Well, it was ok. We had the basics - Fried chicken and Meatloaf. The fried chicken had very little breading on it and was dripping with oil. Needless to say that dish was just ok. The meatloaf was just ok as well - it was served at just above room temperature and they used regular turkey/beef gravy. I wasn't very impressed with it. Don't get me wrong - I thought the food was decent, but definitely not a 9+. I would say a more accurate description is around a 7.

What a Find!! the food was out of this world tasty.. no wonder this place is always packed. I had the Flat Iron steak it was fantastic, the Apple Crisp dessert was so good I returned the next night for another. The wait was long but the servers and the bartender kept you company as they walked by delivery food, and checking to make sure you didn't need anything while you waited. Extensive wine and beer list. Depending on how many people are already there you may have to wait outdoors.

Been going to Q's for years. It's my favorite place to bring out of towners to prove that you can get a great meal in SF for a great price. I LOVE the corned beef hash on the weekends, or if they have the the crabcake benedict. During the weekdays the grilled veggie app and macaroni and cheese (grown up style but still fun with the tater tots) gets me through the tough days.

I had been several times for brunch but wanted to do dinner before writing a review. Well, we were not disappointed. We had the Mahi and the Fried Chicken, both of which were fantastic. Very tasty. We also had a zin that incredibly reasonably priced. Service was sweet as always (ok - one time we did have a grumpy girl at brunch - everyone has those days). Such a cool place. Go here but go early or know you might have a wait if later on the weekends (but you can have a drink while you are waiting!)

The first thing I saw was the quality of the wine list, for those reviewers who said the wine is so so, well obviously you bought your wine in wine carton at Safeway. It's a very good wine list at a very affordable price. The food is always consistent and good, and great value for the price.

We weren't in a hurry so we didn't mind the half hour bar wait. Decent beer selection, good wine list, free tater tots! We were finally seated at the uncomfortable bank along the wall, at a rickety table that continuously spilled our drinks. Service started out great with the two appetizers we ordered, the wonderful habanero shrimp, and the satisfying spinach salad. However, things went down hill after that. We ordered the macaroni and cheese, which was completely inedible--pure mush. We never saw our waitress again, so nobody took the hint when we left an untouched entree on the table. We had to make mention of it to the server we flagged down to get the check, and he politely took it off the bill. Two of the three dishes were worth a return trip, but the overall experience was uncomfortable--and we expected comfort in the food and atmosphere.

Pros: reasonable prices, hip atmosphere, good wine list

Cons: cramped/uncomfortable, bad service, some bad dishes

I went to Q for the first time b/c of the good things I had hear about it. This was Sunday May 5th 2003. My companion and I entered and were seated promptly. However the server seemed to be very bothered by having to have to take our order and was not very pleasant. We ordered the Caesar salad and 1/2lb burger with cheddar. The salad was decent but nothing memorable. The burger was presented well, but not close to being medium as we had ordered it. Overall Q could have been a decent Sunday lunch if it wasn't for the grumpy service from 2 servers.

Cons: service, service, service

This is home cooking that your mother never made. Every dish is a healthy portion and full of flavor. They have a metal wall with magnets that are great for kids to play with.

4 of us went to dinner on a weeknight.
the food was below average - the calamari was flavorless, the mashed potatoes had the consistency of paste, but the mac n cheese with tator tots were good.
our waiter was attentive, but pushed a little hard to purchase alcohol. he wanted to bring us another pitcher of beer when we all had 3/4 full glasses.
it came out to $20/person, which is a terrible value for the calliber of food. i will not go back - we all felt ripped off when we left. too bad because it came recommended by several people.

I went in there for a late breakfast on a Sunday (around 3pm) so the place wasn't too crowded. Our server was great and suggested some of her favorites from the menu. I had a chorizo omlettle-type-thing that was absolutely fabulous! Good ole comfort food. A nice change from the rest of the fare around the area. Go!

There are not many places where you can go and have a great meal, whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, not spend an arm and a leg, and it be a friendly neighborhood place. Q's such a place. Located in the Richmond on Clement Street, this eatery turns out quality, innovative and original food at decent prices. Talk about your comfort food, you can't get any more comfort than mac and cheese and tater tots! I had one of the best steak and potatoes dinners at this place. The omletts and pancakes at breakfast are better than you can make at home.

Cons: lines on weekends

Q's combination of delicious American comfort food and outstanding, inexpensive wine makes this restaurant a neighborhood gem. This is our neighborhood diner - open for every meal, delicious and inexpensive. Anyone complaining about their wine list is obviously a wine salesperson who can't get their company's wine placed and is bitter about it - Q is recognized city-wide as having the best inexpensive wine list in the city. Also, if you are coming to Q for the service, you are truly an uptight idiot. It's a funky diner with delicious and inexpensive food, for god sakes. If you want service in this town, you have to pay for it. If you want great value for your dollar in a cool, kitschy setting, Q is your place. Awesome fried chicken and salmon. Brunch is also one of the best for the price in the city! Kick back and enjoy your meal.

Everything is so good, I could eat here every nite. Don't overlook the specials which are always delicious. The mac and cheese, the ribs, calamari...try it all. It's super casual, inexpensive, cute and always busy. Great brunch spot too. Wine list isn't spectacluar tho & service could be better.
