I was visiting galleries in chelsea and friend of mine, quite a foody, recommended me the Naima as the perfect spot for the lunch in that area, especially when you get hungry after all the walking I did that day.

I can tell you that I was delighted with the menu and fed properly for the lunch. The food was absolutely delicious, and the owner was cute too. I decided to come back with my friends for the dinner the next day and we enjoyed it thoroughly. The staff was courteous and always ready to assist. Our meals were perfectly prepared and we all send the empty plates back to kitchen.

Finally, it is very rare that you can find such a good value in terms of the price and quality of the food, especially for the lunch. Naima you will definitely see me again!

We got conned into buying $7 bottles of water, then they refilled it w/o asking. (if they ask if you want flat or sparkling, say TAP) I asked the waitress which of 2 entrees was better, she said the penne was more popular, so i ordered that, and she gave me a disgusted look. She was such a food snob, even correcting one in our party for not pronouncing the meal correctly. My meal was by far the best of 6 (everyone tasted) but it tasted like it had enough salt in it for a weeks worth of sodium intake. (from the procuitto). It also took forever to get our meal even though we were one of the only tables in there. I wouldn't go back. Hope this helps someone else!

Pros: We sat right down

Cons: Food was salty, Waitress was a food snob

.

The food was delicious but the staff seemed uninterested in answering questions regarding the food and only wanted to correct bad dish name pronunciation.

Picked Naima off a list of Italian restaurants in Mahattan and found a jewel. Went to Naima for dinner on NYE and was not disappointed! The neighborhood is a bit off the beaten path - on a very quiet street, but still safe. The restaurant is cozy (think hardwood) and has a a great ambience - warm, not snobby, but still really nice decor. Service was a bit slow, but again, NYE, so quite busy. There were actual Italians sitting at the table next to us, which I guess was a good sign off the bat. The zuchinni appetizer was amazing - like a zuchini lasagna, nothing like I've ever eaten before; also the caprese salad in a crispy cheese pocket, perfection! The main courses were a bit on the smaller side for American portions, but still enough food for normal people... Every dish was delicious and it was clear that they used high quality ingredients. We ordered the ravioli, rigatoni, third pasta dish I can't remember, and the chicken - all were great! The waitress had recommendations for the wine and appetizers and they were right on. The prices were really reasonable, about $40 per person and that was with wine and apps and sharing four dishes among 6 people. If you value quality over quantity, this is your place. Would definitely go here again the next time I am in NYC.

Another absolutely top-notch meal from Naima, as expected. The decor and service are impeccable, and the food is indescribably good.

If you don't have the Raviolli before you die, then you can't say that you really lived.

I love Naima! It reminds me of some Italian restaurant in New Jersey in the 70's...I hope they never change the decor. And the food....mmmmmm! So good...one of the few good Italian restaurants in the city, in my humble opinion. Try the Ravioli Capresi....you won't be disappointed. And the wait staff is the real deal. Great service.

Celebrated a friend's birthday, the staff was very accomodating because we had people who were unable to make dinner but came out for the afterparty. Food was great, service was terrific, and the place got packed as the evening went along. Definitely great to share, since their portions are nice, and a solid Italian restaurant that is great for larger parties.

We ate early so there weren't many people there. So clearly, service was not an issue.

My appetizers, pasta and main were unreal. The fava bean salad was unbelievable. We had an assortment of appetizers, and I was hoping to hoard this. Successful. The pasta was a rigatoni that came out in a sizzling hot bowl. The tubes had a nice crisp to it and the sauce was simple enough to not overwhelm it.

Now I gotta say, the main goes down in my pantheon of all things I've ever eaten. Grilled octopus with full tentacles over roasted fennel and arugula. I couldn't identify the sauce, but it was perfect.

Amen to this place.

It is nice to have delicious Italian food with nice looking crowd. It is a hot spot to have dinner.

It is open until 2.00 am . Since you are in a nightlife street , there are many options to go after you have your dinner.

My friends planned a bachelorette party for me. We were going to start the evening's activities with dinner at Naima at 6:30. We made the reservation, for a group of 12, three weeks in advance. Two days before the party Naima's manager called and said that we'd have to leave his restaurant before 8pm because he has a private party that is starting at 8. We told him that there is no way we'd be done with dinner by 8, and besides, we reserved our table three weeks in advance and were never told we'd only have 1.5 hours for dinner. He really didn't care. We ended up having to find another restaurant that could accomodate a group of 12 on a saturday night. Bottom line: if you want a restaurant that will actually honor your reservation, Naima is not the place.

A friend of mine recommended Naima so I went for the first time last night. The space is very cozy, great customer service and the food is absolutely amazing!! We liked this place so much that we decided to stay after dinner and sit at the bar for drinks. My only complaint would be that there should be more seating at the bar because it does get crowded. I will definitely be going back.

I've dined art Naima twice now and each time was impressed with the quality and originality of the dishes. Service was fastidious and very courteous, though both times we ate fairly early when there were few other guests. The wine selection was excellent. The only problem I encountered the second time was that the desserts were served too cold (a fruit tart and a creme brulee) although they were very tasty.

Had a reservation for 8 people at 9pm. We sat down at 945. No one apologized. Food was very mediocre and two dishes came very late. Told the owner that we were not happy with the service and he was very defensive. Never going back. You can't treat customers like that if the food is sub par.

My husband and I had dinner at Naima last night, and from start to finish, it was a wonderful experience.
The atmosphere is intimate and not crowded or too loud. It seemed like the kind of place where we'd get service with attitude, but it was completely the opposite. We received enthustiastic recommendations and explanations from our server, our wine and water glasses were never empty, and our table was always clean.
The menu choices were spectacular and the food was superb. We just can't say enough great things about this restaurant.

I've been to Naima several times. Food is great, the wine excellent and the service very warm and personal. I've never felt rushed to order and eat my dinner, as in other NYC eateries- I suppose it's the layed back Italian vibe that the owners want their guests to experience. They accomodate large parties (had a my-b-day there w/ 15 people). It's a cool place to have a great time, if you are not into the the Mega, Super Size Club scene that surrounds the area. For those into REAL NYC night spots, Naima hosts a party once a month with guest DJs. They play real music here, so if the top 40 Mash-Up / 80's/ watch the DJ play records on a stage is your thing- stick to your Ipod or walk yourself down the block to the
$$$ cover that awaits.

We went to this restaurant, which looks quite cozy, with a large party. The service is terribly slow, with over 30 minutes of dead time between each course. What's worse was that despite the long wait the pasta was completely undercooked and inedible.
When I complained to the manager he started to berate, and accuse me of causing the horrendous food by asking for it to come out sooner (after waiting 1 hour in total).

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GO ELSEWHERE.

Naima in Chelsea is hands down the quintessential Italian restaurant in a completely inviting and unintimidating environment. Definitely try an assortment of traditional appetizers and the homemade ravioli- paired with a wine suggested by the friendly (and all-to handsome) staff. Simply scrumptious!

Atmosphere was fabulous! A definite repeat in a city with many Italian resturants but few that are authentic.

Space is roomy with a high ceiling and chic decor. Tables are set with a good distance so that I don't have to hear other people's conversation. My friend and I started with a sophisticated octopus salad dish with a wonderful flavor of fresh olive oil. So, I couldn't wait to taste my Vongore pasta. Against my expectation, it was a butter flavor instead of olive oil, and there were clams but with no sauce! Whoever made this dish tried to be either too creative or not know Vongore at all. I had to compensate my appetite with something, and ordered tiramisu for a dessert. Light, fluffy, wonderful flavor! Plus, when I ordered ice tea, they served it with mint and lemon garnish. That's thoughtful. Please just avoid Vongore!

WOW! One can only imagine my surprise when upon my return to NYC I went to Naima for something to eat even though I heard mixed opinions about the restaurant. We were offered to choose from their new summer menu which contained a wonderful combinations of filling yet light and refreshing food and wine. My taste buds were savoring everything I ate saying, DELICIOUS, DELICIOUS, DELICIOUS! Now I can confirm that the quality and taste of food in Naima deserves every bit of prize which everyone should enjoy :)

One word explains this place... AWFUL! Everything about this place was horiffic. The service was disgusting and the food was even worse. One of the worst pasta dishes I have ever had. There is nothing good about this place and would never ever recommend it. The waiters did not come over once to see how things are going, appetizers came with dinner and waiters grabbed plates from under our forks. The chairs were uncomfortable and the only reason we noticed was becuase we waited HOURS for our food to come out. Overrated, overpriced and will never ever go back. This place needs to go out of business.

This is one of the coolest places that I have been recently in NYC. Im New Yorker and I know how difficult is to find genuine Italian food combined with amazing ambiance. The wine list is well picked with interesting southern Italian wines. The waiter brought me at the table this unfiltered olive oil specially crafted for this restaurant and recommended me buffalo mozzarella that comes every week from Naples and for my main course I had this linguine with orata that blow me out of my mind. I found food to be very light and tasty and the whole experience made feel like I am in Italy. The service was friendly but casual.
Check out this restaurant,

Wow, is the first thing that come to my mind when you ask me about the Naima...excellent food, wine & atmosphere and friendly staff. As soon as we were seated, we have noticed that people are having genuine good time! It did not take us too long to join them.
All our questions were answered by the knowledgeable Italian waiter, and according to him the food was prepared and presented to us the way the "real Italian cuisine was suppose to be". We ate all our courses, and only the empty plates were going back to the kitchen.
Later on the place was transformed with more night crowd coming in for the drinks and DJ spinnin some catchy tunes and creating the lounge party atmosphere. This continued late into the night, with us drinking some of their yummy cocktails, and just enjoying ourselves with the rest of the flirtatious crowd.

What a great place. I have never imagined that on this block, which is well known for all trendy night places, would I be able to spend such a quality time with my friends in a very relaxed atmosphere complemented by wonderful food and drinks. As soon as we arrived we were welcomed by a very courteous host who seated us promptly, although the place looked packed. Things only kept on getting better, from tasty appetizers and great wines, onto great food and very relaxed service. We never felt neither rushed nor ignored, it seemed like they knew exactly when to come and service us. We were a party of six and I had tried almost everything that was on the table, and had I been rich I would have hired the chef to cook only for me! All of my friends felt the same. Go eat at Naima!

Pretty good food, but AWFUL service. There were staff running around everywhere, but not one stopped at our table to take our orders or bring out food - only to dump other people's dirty plates on the end of our table - they were too busy drinking at the bar. Shame because the food was good, although not fantastic.

Good ambiance if you don't mind the music climbing in volume progressively over the evening to the point of not being able to hear your neighbor speak. Clever decor with lower false ceiling to distinguish the bar area.

I must admit that there are not too many restaurants in this area... but if you make the trek to Naima i don't think you will be disapointed. The menu has a variety of dishes all seem to be above average in quailty. The open space is designed very nicely and the staff seems to know what they are doing. I would def. go back there again especially if I was going out to one of the clubs near by.

This restaurant did not live up to expectations. The server was rude, the service was slow, and the food was unimaginative and bland. We were sat at an unsatisfactory table in the back and although the restaurant was empty they said that they could not move us because all of the other tables had been pre-reserved. I could have cooked a better meal at home and I am in no way a cook.

While the staff at this restaurant are extremely friendly, the service is painfully slow. I dined there on a Wednesday night, the restaurant was practically empty, and we had to ask our waiter for everything, the menu, more water, the check, etc. I ordered the Lobster fettucini, which was bland and had only one small piece of lobster in it. There are numerous other restaurants to try before going to this one.

Cons: slow service, bland food

I went to Naima for the first time tongiht with 3 girlfriends, and it was an excellent meal! The food is simple yet bursting with wonderful flavors without being pretentious or overpriced! The service is good, the atmosphere is great for both romantic couples or small or large groups. This is by far one of the best restaurants I've been to in a while in NY!

The place has a very cool atmosphere but the service is slow, the food not that great and overpriced and the wine list is too pricy. I've had meals for much less that were so much better. Had the chicken as my main dish and found it to be dry with really no flavor. There are tons of great places in the city that are way better.

Ever since this little italian restaurant openned I became their frequent visitor. Finnaly, there came a restaurant with everything included (great food, great service (ladies, they are also very cute, especially the owner!) and a wonderful ambience). I found it a great pleace to come to before hitting clubs for either food or drinks.

I had dinner here last night before hitting the neighborhood clubs. We had a reservation and the seating was prompt. This place must be new they scored with the great location. The place was lively and filled with beautiful faces. On one of the first chilly nights it was great to warm up with a glass of wine and the mouthwatering salmon. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. This is the perfect spot to meet up with friends and have a drink at the bar or stay a while and enjoy the scene and savor the food.
